Template for Su-47 by ivanbasic
Menrva replied to zachtan's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
@tonipm99 Here are the screenshots so you can see the differences: 3d model linked by zachtan: 3d model made by YEYEYE (Alpha version, 40% complete): YEYEYE's version, while being incomplete, is actually miles better! Unfortunately, it is no longer available at his "Owl workshop" site. All links to his stuff are down. And I don't think I can redistribute it, even in its incomplete state. I have found some very old threads where Berkut models were being developed, even threads where someone posted screenshots showing a fixed version of YEYEYE's Su-47 (with working TVC). Still, a lot of people show their work, but sometimes it never gets released. -
I am not very impressed. Looks like both sides have been using Syria as a playground for their new toys. Years ago the Yanks tested the F-22 for the first time in combat over Syria, obviously in bombing operations. We'll see. Rather advanced weapons over a land where nothing seems worth fighting for anymore, at least that's what I see. Mayhem, destruction and desolate landscapes which used to be cities.

No, it isn't. Are you sure that one is by YEYEYE? The one by YEYEYE, which I have, has different mapping and it's way better despite it is a alpha version. I'll try to post a screenshot when possible. -

You're talking about YEYEYE's Su-47, which is no longer available at his "Owl workshop" site. The one posted by zachtan is a different model. -

It's a pity we do not have a decent Su-47 model for SF2. The one posted by zachtan is rather dated. There used to be a beta Su-47 model by YEYEYE, but it seems it is no longer available anywhere. I have seen various WIPs about a Berkut in a number of threads, but none came to fruition. -

Iraq, Western Asia (1980-2003)
Menrva replied to Menrva's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - File Announcements
Well, I added them since the definitive version 1.0. Latest update simply fixed some minor things, and I added more border posts. The beta Iran-Iraq terrain missed lots of Blue Side SAMs, so this one is more complete.- 25 replies

You can play with it already, feel free to create quick missions! As for an updated Desert Storm campaign, a team is being formed, and it will use this terrain. Just check the following thread: https://combatace.com/forums/topic/91614-upgrade-for-odscalling-modders-new-and-old/ You have no idea how wrong the original Desert Storm map was. This one is very accurate in terms of target locations. Also, it comes with most if not all Iraqi airbases, and there are Iranian bases as well, for the 1980-88 Iran/Iraq War.- 25 replies

@snapper 21 Thank you very much! You just discovered something very important! I will fix all my terrains' water maps in my next releases! -

Hi, snapper21! That is interesting as well! I was not able to reproduce what you described, though, so if you can open a thread about it and explain further with pictures, I'd be glad. I have other painting software, so when I cut certain areas I see a transparent background. -

The other way around, I think the campaigns need to be updated to work with the IraqWA terrain, which is a lot better in many ways. The Iran-IraqWA terrain was a beta version, while IraqWA is the definitive version, with multiple fixes and additions. -

No, as far as I know, there is no such thing like primary or secondary nation. They are just numbers, nothing more. If carriers are there, the enemy will try to sink them. I think that the only way to prevent this is to limit the allowed mission types, something that I did in Madagascar for a number of reasons. -

Static carrier stations would be better for campaigns like SF2: Vietnam, where main objectives would be to strike land targets. By using SF2: NA naval fleets, campaigns have by design another behaviour, where you would see enemy forces try to sink all of your ships. I don't think the Lybian forces would have been that crazy to risk all of their aircraft against the US Navy. Still, I'll keep your discovery in mind when reworking terrains. -

No problem, I'm glad that you understood. Things are released as is, so any small change of course can produce undesired effects. Why are you using this terrain for for the 2003 Iraq conflict? You should use the other terrain I made: Iraq, Western Asia (1980-2003) -

Really? Now that is interesting! Although, if someone wants to make a campaign using static carrier stations, he won't be able to do it. I'll keep that in mind. -

I just checked, the airfield is bugged on my end too. It will be fixed. For now, live with it. For the ships, I disabled Naval Ops ala SF2NA because the game has a bug where fleets are not supported in custom terrains. How did it spawn in the first place? Is NavalMap=FALSE inside your IraqWA_03.ini file? -

Makes me wondering, do we have available hovercraft/LCACs for SF2? -
Ah okay then, thank you very much for the fast response, Erik. I swear this is the last time I insinuate that something does not work as intended, the site works and looks better than ever.

Erik, I updated some of my terrain mods, but they seem to be stuck in a Pending Approval state, it's been for quite a while. Not complaining, I am not in a hurry, I just wanted to make sure that it's not a site bug. A new upload I made did not take much time to be approved, so it's just the updated uploads taking longer than expected. Thanks in advance! Regards, Rob

Runway's not showing up
Menrva replied to HerkDriverJ's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
This should happen since you don't have one of the referenced stock SF2 terrains; you might have another SF2 title, like SF2E, or SF2V or SF2I. Some of my terrains use the stock Desert terrain files as a base. But don't worry, there is an easy fix. Inside the terrain folder, find the terrain's main .ini file (for instance, IraqWA.ini), and open it with Notepad. You'll find that the referenced CatFile is the Desert.CAT. Since you might not have SF2's Desert terrain, but some other stock terrains, enable a different CAT instead. If you have SF2E, you have the GermanyCE terrain, etc. So, double slash the Desert.CAT line and enable one of the different CAT files from the list below, according to which SF2 game you have: CatFile=..\Desert\Desert.CAT //CatFile=..\GermanyCE\GermanyCE.CAT //CatFile=..\VietnamSEA\VietnamSEA.CAT //CatFile=..\IsraelME\IsraelME.CAT I should have added such info on my ReadMe files. But by now most of us have all 5 SF2 titles combined, so... Still, if you don't have the .CAT file a terrain references by default, and you use another one in its place, you might see some other objects missing. Runways are common to almost all stock .CAT files (with the exception of IcelandNA), but other objects like windmills, bridges, etc. are only present on certain .CAT files. Apart from this, no other major issues, I think. -

Thank you, master! I would have liked to add naval ops by default, but no matter how good the water bitmap is, I had carriers spawning over land. By default I activate naval ops where the bug does not happen (for instance, they work perfectly in my Madagascar terrain remake). Users complained of carriers spawning over land, and I do not want to take credit for TK's laziness over such bug. Wrench helped on this one too! He offered me some specific port tiles for Valletta and Tripoli, which I had to rework for the IsraelME tileset. I am rather happy about the results! I just wish we had more different hires tileset repaints around. The beauty of Strike Fighters is that we can make each terrain feel unique, granted that we have different tilesets for each one. We'll see what the future brings. I am grateful to the CombatACE community and members for what they have provided during the years. My terrain remakes are a humble way of saying "thank you" for such support to our beloved Strike Fighters series. -

@bubu I couldn't quote what you said because you wrote it in the review section. Anyway, thanks for the question; I intended to leave the USAF off the limited nations list, as this only affects single missions, so you can add USAF planes in campaigns with no problems. I deactivated the USAF because the majority of planes we have is American. I wanted to give priority to other nations this way, or we would see way too many USAF planes spawn in the terrain. -

Terrain package updated to Version 1.04; among minor additions, the terrain's folder has been cleaned up of many unnecessary files. Users are advised to remove the previous version completely.- 25 replies
