Damn, I still can't believe it. His role and acting in "Dead Poets Society" was fantastic to say the least. A great actor and comedian, we will miss him for sure. RIP

Decals in .dds and camera views
Menrva replied to Menrva's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
I didn't pay attention to the numbering so I guess you're right, maybe I'll have to stick to tgas. If you open both the tga and the dds files in a program like Paint.NET and you compare them, you'll notice that there is a slight loss of quality in the latter. If you zoom in you'll see that some small parts of the decal have dots of purple-ish colour, this happens with every dds file I've seen. BTW now I'd like to know what software do you use for conversions. Time ago I used Paint.NET, now I discovered XnView, it's better if you need to convert large quantities of files at the time. Unfortunately a dds plug-in that I have for Photoshop Elements doesn't work on my system, the program crashes and I don't know why. -
Decals in .dds and camera views
Menrva replied to Menrva's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
I've tried and it works, as long as one adds the ".dds" extension to each decal file listed in the decal.ini. This might be useful for those who would like to conserve space on their HD. However converting dds to tga also means that you will lose image quality, much more noticeable than the conversion from bmp to jpeg. I wonder if there's another alternative to tga and dds formats. -
Decals in .dds and camera views
Menrva replied to Menrva's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
It is only 60GB because I removed all the unnecessary files and converted the .bmp to .jpeg (I hate bitmaps taking all that space, jpegs are much better if the conversion is done right without loss of quality). Of course I'm planning to buy a new HD. BTW, good choice Wrench. I also have a WD external HD. That's where I store SF2 mods and backups. What about the camera views? Tomorrow I'll post my results about .dds decals. -
Templates for Veltro's YF-12A
Menrva replied to Menrva's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
As far as I know yes. The weapon is included in the plane package made available by Wrench. Below I posted the link to download it, have fun with it. http://combatace.com/files/file/13710-what-if-sf2-lockheed-yf-12a-starduster-by-veltro2k/ -

I totally agree. Of course I am not blaming the public opinion but the media which make people think one way and not the other (TV, movies and all that crap). Still I wonder if the X-32 was that bad, but we need another thread for such discussion.

Operation Odysey Dawn 2.0 HD Release
Menrva replied to Peugeot205's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mission & Campaign Building Discussion
Amazing! My compliments to you FRPignon. This deserves 5 stars. The terrain especially needed this kind of treatment, and I love those flags in the airbases (that are Wrench's detailed work). Just remember that Sicily and Greece are 'green' and not deserted as much as Libya and it will be very great. -
Nesher, please don't laugh. Top Gun 2 was not cancelled, instead, I'm quoting the article, "the film was put on hiatus in August after director Tony Scott committed suicide". I find it rather sad, to say the least. Back on the thread, sure thing is the American public opinion thinks that the F-35 sucks. I wonder what would have happened if the ugly and beautiful X-32 won the competition instead of the X-35. We Italians have to buy 70 or more of these things, I hope they are worth it (after all they are meant to substitute the old Harriers).

Strike Fighters was crying for such aircraft. Thank you very much for this, FastCargo. Let's hope someday someone creates a proper cockpit for it. -
Templates for Veltro's YF-12A
Menrva replied to Menrva's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
WTF? Sorry, Wrench, I don't want to sound bitchy, but I don't get your 'wow'. I already stated that I have other projects in mind, so I won't bother with the skin or the decals for a while. I respect your work, after all without you this community would suffer a major loss. Just to state things clearly, I'm not one of those who complain about one mod or another, so if you got a problem with someone else (or with me) you'd better solve it without being ironic in an offensive way. That said, peace. -
Templates for Veltro's YF-12A
Menrva replied to Menrva's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Ah! I can read a data .ini all right, it's just that I don't want to waste my time trying to find the correct position for each decal. -
Templates for Veltro's YF-12A
Menrva replied to Menrva's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Thanks Geary. I know, decal placing is probably the most difficult task. As of now I'd like to finish a new terrain project for SF2 (it's a remake of the Iran/Iraq terrain). I'll probably add and remove some small details from the skin and release it for download if it seems reasonably good. -
Templates for Veltro's YF-12A
Menrva replied to Menrva's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Finally I finished my school exams. Below I attached two pictures of the YF-12A skin I made thanks to Geary's template. Still I'm not happy with my work because of the horrible, low-res decals painted on the skin (I don't know how to use the decals.ini properly). Anyone feel free to post any suggestions. -
Templates for Veltro's YF-12A
Menrva replied to Menrva's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Thanks again Geary. RL is taking most of my time though, so it will take a while before I can post a screenshot. However I already started painting the plane and I think the final result will be good. It will be probably my first upload. -

Menrva replied to Menrva's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Geary, thanks a lot. It is exactly what I was looking for. You should upload it so people can effectively download your work. BTW I have no problem with sounds and the missile works, while the missing afterburner makes me think it has SF2 level afterburner nodes, those that we miss in the first generation of SF. -
Templates for Veltro's YF-12A
Menrva replied to Menrva's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Geary, sorry if I created some misunderstanding. I'd really like to see a dark skin matching the SR-71 first, but then considering that you've made various what if planes with the SEA camo, I had the idea of trying a similar thing with the YF-12A (after all it could have been deployed to Vietnam). However I'm not a 'what if' guy, so my first wish is to see the YF-12A in black colour. Thank you very much for your interest in this project. -

Menrva replied to Menrva's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Thanks for the replies, guys! Don't worry Veltro, thanks to you we still have some of the most exotic and finest 3d models ever seen in a flight simulator. Geary, I will wait for your template, I already imagine a what if YF-12A in SEA camo like the ones you've made for other planes. -
SF2 KAW F4U-4/F4U-4B Corsair Pak, Ver 2 by TMF/MM
Menrva replied to Wrench's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - File Announcements
Thank you very much, Wrench. It's appreciated. Sorry if I bother you with two (stupid) questions: Which is the fictitious squadron? And do the AU-1 and the F4U-5NL need a prop fix too? I haven't flown them for a while. -
Terrain Gurus please take a look at this
Menrva replied to Peugeot205's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
I solved it on some terrains (don't know why it doesn't work on other terrains) by changing these parameters in the terrain data.ini: [HeightOffset] LowDetailMesh=0.5 WaterMesh=0.8 BTW such effect could also be avoided using a better resolution and antialiasing, but for that you need a powerful computer. -
He's amazing, at least someone tells the truth. The only part I didn't agree with was when he talked about the American casualties of the tank battles in Iraq back in 1991 (at least they risked their lives on the ground), but I agree 100% regarding the excessive bombardments that occurred in Desert Storm. Quoting Roger Waters' song The Bravery Of Being Out Of Range: "Just love those laser guided bombs/They're really great/For righting wrongs/You hit the target/And win the game/From bars 3,000 miles away"

I'm really happy to hear that you are alright. Falcon the fighter 1, bad guys 0.

Take care of yourself, Wrench, after all RL is way more important than modding (although you like it so much I guess you'll miss it for the time being). -
SF2 Campaigns for Desert4
Menrva replied to malibu43's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - File Announcements
Malibu, thank you very much for sharing this one. I noticed that the campaign set in 1975 doesn't have the SF2NA F-14 which was instead added by TW (since the release of SF2NA or later by a patch, I guess) in the stock campaign.
