  1. Aircraft Nicknames

As far as I know, this is the nickname of the F4U "Corsair" during WW2. It was difficult to make a carrier landing as it was prone to bounce on touch down.
  2. Ace of Aces - Rene Fonck

Not talking about pressure when you have to play between kg/cm2 and lbs/square inch ...
  3. Ace of Aces - Rene Fonck

To be precise, you multiply meters by 3.2809 ... As a rule of thumb, I use 3.3 which is close enough.
  4. Ace of Aces - Rene Fonck

It was in 4 parts from January to April 2013 ( nr 518 to nr 521 ). Google is your friend (sometimes...)
  5. Ace of Aces - Rene Fonck

There were good detailed writings (four parts) about René Fonck called "From light to shadow" (iirc) in " Le Fana de l'Aviation" earlier this year.
  6. The Red Arrows before my balcony

I didn't say I don't like it. Spent many hours flying it in Strike Fighters Vietnam. It wouldn't win a turning fight with a bus, but it has a lot of power and is good in vertical and faster in level flight than anything else at this time. It can carry a good load, and when the fight doesn't turn your way you can always light the afterburners and run away. Also in real life you have two guys inside, and two brains are normally better than one...
  7. The Red Arrows before my balcony

You know the famous statement of Mc Donnell engineers about the F4 Phantom II : " It is the proof that a 10 ton brick can fly if you put enough power inside " Among german pilots, it's known as "Eisenschwein"... or "Fliegender Ziegelstein"
  8. Albert Ball is angry with me

In a DH2 you can be happy when you make it home alive...
  9. I follow the "Settings for Realistic Missions" and so I skip all the scramble missions, and specially if flying two seaters !
  10. I still see two guys in the RE8. Where does the guy in the ejection seat come from ?
  11. Andy's Sounds Update 3.2

What he means is that when you unzip the 3.2.1 Update you get 2 mods files : One is called "Sounds" and the other "Engine Sounds". The question is which one must be loaded first in JSGME. I was also wondering ?
  12. 61 in two weeks ... just in time for WOFF !!
  13. Flying too much online multiplayer Rise of Flight ! But still flying OFF at least once a week !
  14. Some new downloads while we wait for WOFF

Thks for the maps, looks great !
  15. HPW FM and EW Campaign Mod 3.1 now available

Installed and working. Thks for the time you spent making this mod.
  16. Windows 8

Still running XP Pro on my gaming machine and everything running fine. One thing I learned in 30 years with computers is " If it ain't broke, don't fix it..." Support goes until 2014. However should I need a new machine, guess I would go for Windows 7 which runs on my laptop. Experience has taught me to wait and see with new operating systems, This is how I avoided Millenium and Vista !
  17. Sure is Lonely Up Here

Totally understand how you feel, but I'm acting as a stupid soldier and always follow the mission I've been assigned, so I don't fly outside of the mission map (which is usually 45 to 60 mns flights, sometimes more) so I don't see the difference. I don't play the official RoF campaign either, I use Pat Wilson's CG which is historical, both in the OOBs and the missions and behaviour/altitudes of Central /Entente planes at different times of the war. Moreover, I like the idea that I don't have to be connected to internet to play. For me the main difference is not the "good looking", but that in RoF planes I really feel like flying, have to use the wind and other factors, and the navigation on the map. (of course I don't use anything like plane icons, 2D gauges or navigation icons) The changes that have been introduced in gunnery in the last update are another step forward and the 1.027 is due this afternoon. But may be I will change my mind in two weeks ? Edit : as posted before, I still also enjoy flying OFF now and then.
  18. Sure is Lonely Up Here

No misunderstanding : I don't regret at all having bought OFF and HitR (still fly with it from time to time) specially if it helps you working on the new release !
  19. Sure is Lonely Up Here

I have read this FAQ before, but then if it comes down to 1917/1918 I prefer flying RoF which looks a lot better and feels more like flying, considering that with PWCG I get historical situations and I can play with the setup. We will see in two weeks how it goes !
  20. Sure is Lonely Up Here

When I bought OFF recently, one of the reasons was that the early war planeset was much more interesting than RoF which has no early planes besides the EIII ans the DH2. Problem in the OFF early war campaigns is that most of the time you meet nobody ( I flew a lot of Roland CII and Eindecker missions without seeing one single allied plane using Buddy1998 missions) Since I don't use warp and never will, it is a lot of time just flying around. I agree of course it is historical, but we also fly to see some action ! So as it's down again to mostly 1917/1918 I'm in the end mostly flying RoF with Pat Wilson Campaign Generator. We will see how it goes with WOFF in two weeks...
  21. Bad news

22.07.2012 A 66 year old pilot died when his Fokker DR1 crashed in a field 500m from the airfield at an aerial meeting in Couhé-Vérac ( France ) The plane belonged to the well known Amicale Jean Baptiste Salis of La Ferté Alais.
  22. Bad news

@ RAF_Louvert : On his personal website you can read something like " We'll have plenty of time to be reasonable once we'll be dead " Think it shows the kind of man he was. It is always the same debate : is it better to have a shorter interesting life or a longer boring one ? Remembers me of a postcard I bought when I lived in Germany. It was a picture of a guy lying on a hospital bed with doctors and nurses around him, and it said something like " There are people who don't drink, don't smoke, don't like good food, don't chase women or do anything unreasonable. For punishment, they live longer than other people..."
  23. Bad news

In fact the plane didn't belong to the Amicale JB Salis, but had been bought by the deceased pilot in April this year. The plane had been originally built by Jean Salis for the film " L'as des as " with Jean Paul Belmondo in 1982.
  24. Bad news

From what I read on the forums from people who were at the meeting, they were simulating a fight with a SE5a protecting a Breguet 14, when the DR1 went down in a spin.
  25. OFFbase: the Barmy Automated Squadron Experience for OFF

The girl also says "Czech mate"... so not german either !
