Get these deals in DCS E-shop DCS Warbirds Update Earlier this year we showed off a greatly updated cockpit for the DCS: P-51D Mustang that will be released next month. In addition to a beautiful, new cockpit, we’re also updating the external model to include both P-51D-25 and P-51D-30 versions! This includes improvements to both the 3D model and textures. Along with the Mustang, we’ve also completing work on a fantastic new cockpit for the Bf 109 K-4 and a Fw 190 D-9 that takes advantage of both deferred shading and physically based rendering. In parallel, the P-47D, Fw 190 A-8, and Mosquito are all making great progress in both the external model, cockpit, flight model and systems. A big element also getting a lot of attention has been the new damage model we discussed in an earlier newsletter. We’ve been using the Spitfire as the test bed and the progress has been steady and good. Once we’re happy with the results, we’ll first incorporate the new damage model system into the other warbirds. Next month, we’ll make available a wonderful P-51D Mustang campaign by Reflected Simulations. Virtual Reality Update We see VR as an amazing tool to enjoy DCS World and the future of PC gaming for many. To make DCS World even better, we’ve been working on some great VR improvements that include: Optimized VR performance Touch control that allows direct finger interaction with cockpit controls Touch control to allow the right and left Touch controllers to act as stick and throttle when positioned correctly in the virtual cockpit and holding down the middle-finger button These will provide a much more immersive VR experience, particularly for those flying warbirds and other aircraft that do not require HOTAS controls. Sincerely, The Eagle Dynamics Team

We wanted to drop you a round-up of what’s been happening with CAP2 development over the last few months. As you can see from the summary below, update pace is gaining momentum. This is due to continue as we bring you a run of smaller updates, focused on all aspects of aircraft AI. We are excited about December as we finally start to bring the missions to life! Current work is focused on all aspects of aircraft AI. This will improve things such as: Dogfights AI aircraft mission integration (taxiing, AI flight member roles) AI airbase traffic AI aircraft weapon deployment (AA & AG) AI awareness of aircraft state (fuel, weapon state, radar, RWR) A2A refueling. This means for example, in a training mission you might see a tanker takeoff while your flight taxis to the runway. You takeoff, form up and hit training area targets line astern, refuel and return to base. Another example, for the Mach Loop you may be in a flight of four aircraft transiting the loop where you may be lead or following the flight leader. Live now We’ve dropped four patches over the past couple of months and the current version (v810.7) is now live across all branches (including VR). Here’s Ed’s posts from the Steam community hub detailing what these these four patches included: V810.4 Terrain editor - We've completed a lot of background work on the terrain editor which means we can now rapidly improve areas of interest from the base imagery and OSM data. We intend to make the editor available in the future for people to customise and share terrains, together with a mission editor. Training missions - We've used the improved editor to begin building the Yuma training missions. You may discover the newly populated target ranges. Mission planner Improvements - We've fixed some of the issues with the mission planner and it also now shows elevation as well as coast line. You will see that the map now includes most of the UK and the Yuma Map extends up to the Grand Canyon. In the future we will also extend the satellite imagery and OSM data - either through DLC or a future update. Easter Egg - Many players have now found this in the UK map, well done! Richer environment - As you can see from the screenshot below of the Harrier leaving Khasab we have added thousands more buildings and lots of additional vegetation. You may be aware (and have contributed - thank you!) that this is done by adding more OpenStreetMap data. It's been done as an aside and hasn't impacted general development. Abu Musa and Kaneohe Bay are also now more significantly built up. We've also added a host of custom objects including power lines, lighthouses, water tanks, ATC towers, rigs etc. Fuel Tanks - As you can also see from the screen above, the Harrier now has external fuel tanks, including associated fuel flow logic and displays, you’ll be able to mod them soon. Terrain Lighting - We've added lighting to roads, runways, taxiways and buildings, illuminating villages and cities which really adds to immersion. In case you missed it here’s the promo from a few weeks ago showcasing this. You will also see that we’ve improved vegetation, adding different trees and increasing their density. Cockpit illumination - As you can see from these before and after shots, the Harrier cockpit now has night illumination. It's easy to see dials/gauges around sunset. You can separately adjust the lighting intensity for self illuminated instruments and the cockpit floodlights. The full day/night cycle will come in a subsequent update. We've got a sky shader to complete which bounces a lot of rays through the atmosphere and produces great sunsets and sky throughout the 24hr cycle. v810.5 Mostly a bug fix build, notable changes include: Controls: Control and shift on mapped control keys are now saved. Controls: OEM keys are labelled correctly. Controls: Added default mappings for keyboard, gamepad, joystick. HARM: firing crash fixed. HARM Mission: mission starts. Terrain LOD: settings bug fixed. You can select Low, Medium, High, Ultra. Flight model: fix for a drag calculation. Time Of Day controls: added to adjust current time and environment lighting. V810.6 Added fixes for fullscreen monitor selection. When in fullscreen mode, changing the selected output monitor is immediate. Also the monitor label has an index added to distinguish between identically named monitors (generic pnp display...) While working on default controls I realised none of the controller manufacturers seem to use the correct USB usage codes for controller buttons or axes/sliders which have a specific function. There are codes defined for controls such as throttle, chaff, flaps, trim etc. It'd be great if they used them where relevant as auto mapping a controller would be pretty simple. Anyway, I'm adding default settings for common controllers which will be included in coming updates. I've also begun work on the axis response curves UI. The TOD/lighting controls are pretty cool. Give them a try, you'll probably find yourself constantly tweaking the light levels. Once the updated day/night sky shader is complete you'll be able to adjust the full 24hr cycle, plus advancing mission time will be added. The terrain LOD settings fix/update improves the appearance of distant lights popping into view and fixes an issue where extra scenery was being drawn. v810.7 The debug keys for time shifting and cloud regeneration are available in Controls->Misc You can accelerate time from 4x to /32 (decelerating 32x was useful for testing things like gear animations) A crash on starting Hawaii free flight is fixed. You can now add your own cockpit photo. There's a directory 'Mods - Examples' in the game folder which details how to add your photo. Should you buy CAP2 now? If you don’t yet own CAP2 obviously we’d love for you to join the crew. We encourage you to read the store page details carefully first, particularly with reference to what features are currently enabled so that you have the correct expectation from the current build. Reviews If you are enjoying CAP2 we would appreciate a quick Steam review as it greatly increases visibility within the store.

DCS World Open Beta 2.5 Hotfix and Release Version This week we released a second Open Beta update to address issues that some users encountered with the new, default controller profiles. Theses default profiles are now only used for a newly installed module, or the user manually loads them as a profile. Our next controller to add default profiles for will be the VKB Gunfighter Mk.II. Our goal is to have default controller profiles for all popular controllers. You can read the entire Hot Fix list here. This week we also moved the current Open Beta to the Release version. You can read the change log here. The biggest element of this is the updated Release version is the availability of the new MiG-29 for DCS World. DCS: F/A-18C Hornet, DCS: Persian Gulf Map, and Su-33 Bundle Pack Last Days The bundle pack consisting of the Hornet, Persian Gulf Map, and Su-33 ends this Sunday! In addition to the full pack, we are also offering a version of just the Hornet and Persian Gulf map. Find both on our e-Shop. You can also find both bundles on our Steam store at: Persian Gulf + F/A-18C + Su-33 Persian Gulf + F/A-18C Modeling Update We recognize that an important aspect to improve in DCS World is more realistic damage modeling in regards to localized effects, visual effects, affect on hit components, and type of weapon impact. Regarding the latter, the new damage model will be based on two types of weapon impact: penetrating impact and proximity impact. This provides us with three primary weapon effects on a unit: penetrating (projectiles), volumetric/pressure wave (high-explosive) and volumetric/shrapnel. This last effect allows weapon casing fragments to be tracked as unique objects entering the unit. This is not modeled in our current damage model system, but it will provide a great improvement to aircraft, and later, ground unit damage. When a projectile or shrapnel penetrates a unit, the strength and functionality of the of the unit component it intersects with is affected. This includes components like spars, flight control surfaces, engine, weapons, fuel, etc. This, in turn, can greatly affect aircraft performance and system functionality. The team has been working hard on this new damage model system, and the primary work is now complete. It is now undergoing internal testing. We will first roll out the new damage model system in our World War II aircraft, then later move to our more modern aircraft and then ground units. In these images, you can see the internal components of the P-51D and Fw 190 D-9 that are tracked as unique components that can be damaged. About Early Access and Open Beta For those not familiar with the terms Early Access and Open Beta, we want to use this newsletter to talk about how we implement them in regards to DCS World. DCS World Early Access Over the last few years, the concept of Early Access has taken traction with many companies in this industry. Before our adoption of this option, we were often bombarded with customer requests to test our products, or at least have the opportunity to have an early look. We offer Early Access to such customers, and we greatly appreciate the feedback on how we make the product even better. However, we also recognize that Early Access is not for everyone, and some players prefer their first experience in the game to be with a completed experience. We get that, and this option is not recommended for everyone. The time a product remains in Early Access can vary widely based on the scope of the project, technical hurdles, and how complete the module is when it enters Early Access. Eagle Dynamics and all of our third parties strive to make this period as short as possible. It’s important to note that when a development team starts work on a new project while another project is still in Early Access, it is most often because it’s a separate internal team or elements of the team have completed their tasks on the Early Access project and it’s time for them to move them to move on to a new project rather than sit on their hands. An Early Access module can be played on both the Open Beta and Release versions of DCC World. When we first release a new module or update it, we first release it to our Open Beta version of DCS World for “field-testing” and then we later move it to the Release version once we are sure there are no “blocking” issues. DCS World Open Beta Speaking of Open Beta and Release versions, we currently operate two versions of DCS World, the Open Beta version and the Release version (many fewer versions than before!). Because DCS World is a “living” project that changes daily, it’s possible for a project-wide bug to worm itself in and make the game unplayable for all. To prevent this and add a level of protection, we adopted Open Beta and Release versions. Most every two weeks (sometimes more with hotfixes) we create a new Open Beta version that comprises the changes from the prior two weeks. Although this first goes through both internal and closed-external testing, it is possible for errors to slip through. In this case, the Open Beta is utilized to identify a “blocking” bug that prevents all customers from playing the game (not just customers of a single module). For those that take part in the Open Beta, we greatly appreciate it and thank you for your testing efforts. If a “blocking bug” is present in the Open Beta, we always have the Release version available. This is why the Release version is sometimes called the Stable version. As such, the Open Beta version is for us to “field-test” new changes and check for any DCS-wide “Blocking” crashes, and the Release version is the result of the previous Open Beta that does not suffer any “Blocks.” As with Early Access, Open Beta is an option and may not be for everyone. DCS World on Fighter Pilot Podcast Our very own Matt “Wags” Wagner sits down with Jell-O on the Fighter Pilot Podcast and talks DCS World. You can also find the interview on Youtube. DCS: F-14 by Heatblur Simulations Available for Pre-Purchase Pre-purchase and save $10 from The DCS: F-14 Tomcat by Heatblur Simulations is now available for pre-purchase with a $10 discount. Early Access release of a feature-complete F-14B will be this winter. The Grumman F-14 Tomcat was a two-crew, variable geometry, maritime air superiority fighter that served with the US Navy for 32 years and continues to serve with the IRIAF in Iran. The F-14 was the US Navy's frontline fighter from the 1970s until the mid-2000s. Over the course of its long service life it also became the US Navy's premier precision ground-attack platform and lone airborne reconnaissance asset. Outstanding features of the aircraft are the swing-wing configuration, crew of two, and the powerful AN/AWG-9 Weapons Control System (WCS) and radar. The AWG-9 allows employment of the powerful AIM-54 Phoenix air to air missile while the LANTIRN pod allows the ability to carry out precision ground strikes using laser guided bombs. The F-14 Tomcat was present during many pivotal historic moments such as the two Gulf of Sidra incidents, Operation Desert storm in Iraq, the conflict in Yugoslavia, Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan and Operation Iraqi Freedom. It was also immortalized in the iconic motion picture, Top Gun, and starred in several other feature films including The Final Countdown, Executive Decision, and others. In addition, the Tomcat was also a vital player in the Iran-Iraq war during the 80s, flying for the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force which had acquired the F-14A from the US prior the Islamic Revolution of 1979. More screenshots The Heatblur Simulations F-14A/B Tomcat aims to simulate this iconic aircraft as a high-fidelity module for DCS, being the culmination of several years of research, coding and modelling. Special points of consideration amongst the many features are the external and internal graphic model created using laser scanning and photogrammetry from real Tomcats at various museums, the detailed modelling of the AN/AWG-9 and the ability to fly as a two-crew aircraft in multiplayer. Please read the complete feature list here MiG-29 for DCS World Available Now This is a free update for Flaming Cliffs 3 customer, or a separate purchase option from DCS e-shop This week we bring you the long-awaited update to the MiG-29A, MiG-29S, and MiG-29G! This is the last of the major updates to DCS: Flaming Cliffs 3 (FC3) line of aircraft. As with the other updated FC3 aircraft, the MiG-29 now incorporates a Professional Flight Model (PFM) that will continue to undergo development and improvement during the early access period. Additionally, the MiG-29 cockpit and external model have been greatly improved, and other changes have been made like: Option for casual gamer flight dynamics that prevents departures to stalls, automatic angle of attack limiter, and a G limiter. While the PFM for the MiG-29 is very realistic, some player may prefer a more forgiving aircraft to fly. As part of the PFM, we have tuned the available angular velocity of roll. The braking effect of the braking chute has been increased. The fuel level in internal fuel tank 1 has been increased. The MiG-29 "Fulcrum" is a Russian-designed, twin-engine, supersonic fighter. First operational in the early 1980s, the Fulcrum is a "light weight" fighter, comparable to the American F/A-18 Hornet and F-16. Designed to work in conjunction with the larger Su-27 Flanker, the MiG-29 is armed with an internal 30mm cannon and both infrared- and radar-guided air-to-air missiles. For air-to-ground tasks, the MiG-29 can be armed with a large array of unguided bombs and rockets. In addition to a sophisticated pulse doppler radar, the MiG-29 is also equipped with a passive Infrared Search and Track (IRST) sensor that allows the Fulcrum to detect and target enemy aircraft just based on their infrared emissions. This allows the MiG-29 to make stealthy attacks with no warning! The Fulcrum is a highly-maneuverable fighter in a dogfight, and when paired with the helmet mounted sight and the AA-11 "Archer" air-to-air missile, it is a very lethal adversary. The MiG-29 has also been widely exported and has served in many countries that include Germany, Iran, Ukraine, and Poland. Key Features of the MiG-29 for DCS World: A professional level flight model provides unmatched flight physics that allow you to truly feel what it's like to fly this amazing aircraft. Designed and tested by a former MiG-29 pilot! A true model of the MiG-29 flight control system that allows you to perform the "cobra" and other "out of the envelope" maneuvers. Highly detailed, six-degrees-of-freedom (6 DOF) cockpit. Accurate MiG-29 Fulcrum model, squadron markings, and weapons. Includes instant action, single missions, and a campaign. Battle the Hornet in head-to-head combat. Note: The MiG-29 for DCS World is identical to the MiG-29 in Flaming Cliffs 3. Owners of FC3 do not need to purchase. The main differences in the new PFM against SFM MiG-29 SFM had very basic stability/controllability model, where stick deflection defines required g-load (1 g auto-trim system). In real life, the MiG-29 is a plane with natural positive stability without any g-load feedback (as Su-27, for example) with additional longitudinal stability augmentation system (LSAS) and dampers. MiG-29 PFM carefully models real plane longitudinal stability and controllability characteristics of the plane itself as well as LSAS algorithms. Lateral and directional stability and controllability were tuned as well. The true effect from leading edge slats was added. To model the distinctive features of the plane aeroelasticity effect were added for ailerons together with the limited ability of the actuators. Roll rate is dependent on AoA and dynamic pressure and is very close to the real prototype. The plane has a very pronounced effect of ground proximity to its longitudinal controllability, which is modelled. Stick limiter algorithm is fundamentally changed in comparison to SFM to have it like the real thing. Autopilot modes are made closer to the real. What to do: Fine tuning of lateral and directional stability/controllability Engine fine tuning to adjust thrust for 70-80% rpm range High AoA and post-stall effects and behaviour tuning DCS World 2.5 Open Beta Update This week’s Open Beta release saw some key changes that include: Introduced the updated MiG-29 Increased range of the new HY-2 Silkworm anti-ship missile to 100 km Added the reload times of the SA-2 SAM and HY-2 Increased launch rate of the Ticonderoga Improved AI taxi logic on the carrier deck Flight model improvement of the drag curve, motor performance, and dynamic launch zone of the AIM-9L/M Sidewinder Several AJS-37 Viggen and MiG-21bis fixes and improvements Corrected Hornet TDC moving to stow position after target breaks a lock, aerial refueling Instant Action missions, adjusted TCTS pod drag value, radar B-Sweep no longer moves outside the tactical area, the B-Sweep returns to normal scan after the radar loses lock (B-Sweep hang after an undesignate key break lock already fixed this month) You can read the complete change log on the DCS forum We are on track to have the JHMCS with AIM-9X, FPAS page, fixed antenna logic, and AGM-65E and AGM-65F for the Hornet by the end of this month. In parallel, the HARM and ATFLIR pod are being developed, but these are complex tasks and will take longer. DCS Weekend News - F-14 & MiG-29
MigBuster replied to MigBuster's topic in Digital Combat Simulator News
Unless you have a lot of time on your hands (no family or responsibilities) it would be misleading to give the impression hard core games like DCS are a formality to get into. People may not remember the learning curve they even had to spend on older sims like SF2 with the cold war specific combat and specific flight models. Some of the DCS modules are very in depth and it is not just about time it is about getting the understanding of concepts that you wont find in the basic instruction manuals. Then comes the time commitment....even just ramp starting before every mission. DCS could do with some fun arcade type gameplay injecting into the single player mode if it wants more players - granted it already has some arcade type AI and damage modelling but wouldn't really call that fun. -

The answer: physics. For folded-wing aircraft's flight characteristics, we conducted calculations for the wings and stabilators in XFLR5 software. The calculations were done using VLM (Vortex Lattice Method) with a non-viscous flow model. The program then determines the characteristics of the linear area of lifting force dependence based on the angle of attack. For horizontal flight, we have the following equation to calculate how the forces are balanced in the vertical plane: pv2/2 SCL = mg The calculations show us that the folded wing configurations results in a 30% reduction in the coefficient of lift. To compensate for this reduction in horizontal flight lift, we need to either increase the angle of attack by 42% or increase the velocity 19%. Because the folded portion of the aircraft resides behind the center of gravity, a folded wing configuration results in reducing the negative pitching moment, which will also result in a reduced rotation speed at takeoff. Initially, we didn't take into account the fuselage, stabilators, and flaps lift capabilities, which all add to the total lifting force. Unfolded wing Folded wing For an aircraft with non-folded wings and mass of 35,000 pounds and 8 degrees of angle of attack, the velocity to create the lifting force would be 186 knots without taking into account the fuselage, stabilators, and flaps. For an aircraft with folded wings and a mass of 35,000 pounds and 8 degrees of angle of attack, the estimated velocity for creating lift is 222 knots (i.e. 186 +19% = 221,34 knots). In our model, the velocity for a mass of 35,000 pounds and an angle of attack of 8 degrees is 205 knots due to the fuselage, stabilators, and flaps. Sincerely, The Eagle Dynamics Team

F-14 Tomcat and A-6 Intruder update
MigBuster posted a topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
This image has been resized. Click this bar to view the full image. The original image is sized 1100x341. F-14 Development Update! Stick with it. Dear All, 4 years, 5000+ commits and tens of thousands of manhours later we’re finally there, on to the final leg of the final stretch of what will hopefully be a new foundation for all things Heatblur. As many hours as we’ve put in, you’ve probably spent quite a few yourself mired in frustration about not climbing into your own GRU-7 just yet. We understand this and sincerely hope that the quality of the finished Tomcat will weigh heavily in our favour and put us in your good graces. That said; we have plenty to talk about for now! Lets jump right in: Heatblur Simulations is proud to announce the addition of the AI A-6E & KA-6 to DCS World as Free AI units! Furthering our commitment to providing full and rich experiences to the community, and in line with our module development priorities, we’ve decided to introduce the A-6E and KA-6 as free AI units into DCS World shortly following the release of the F-14 Tomcat! The Intruder is an aircraft that has been under active development at Heatblur Simulations for some time, and subject to a license agreement, we hope to eventually introduce it into DCS world as a full, playable module - and we are developing it with this intent in mind. In the meantime, the AI Intruders will serve a critical role in the F-14 campaigns and provide an additional level of authenticity to the game and simulation battlespace environment. The A-6’s are built to our extremely exacting standards, with laser scanning forming the basis of our core workflow and ensuring complete accuracy in shape and dimensions. In-game, the KA-6 will provide the player with texaco services while the A-6E will serve as a venerable strike partner with an unmatched payload - good friends to have in the cockpit of an F-14. The A-6’s will also play a crucial part in one of the two free included campaigns with the F-14; as the particular cruise being depicted is the famous all Grumman cruise. Dirty, greasy Tomcats and Intruders playing with each other on deck? Sign us up. To summarize, current planned free content for the F-14 includes: Forrestal class carriers (compatible with all carrier aircraft) A-6E KA-6 1x F-14B Caucasus Campaign 1x Persian Gulf F-14A Campaign --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ****************************************************************** The F-14 Ongoing work on the aircraft itself has been distributed across a broad range of development areas. Primarily, and non-exhaustively, these include: Flight Model We’re now getting close to completing the final pre-release tweaks of the flight model. The aircraft (still) flies closely to our available performance data and parameters; but we’ve been continuing our heavy back and forth with SMEs, again, repeating ad nauseum: to truly capture the spirit and behaviour of the Tomcat. Some highlights of areas that have been touched upon lately include: Roll behaviour/performance & wing position: We’ve been correcting various inconsistencies between our simulation and the real jet in roll handling, inertia and lateral responsiveness, especially with the wings swept aft. Elevon drag in ground effect: We’ve been looking at and tweaking behaviour and the influence of the elevons on the aircraft in ground roll or ground effect situations. This has been important in order to more accurately simulate the immense drag and utility that the elevons presented during landing or other ground operations. Differential stabilizer inputs will now turn the aircraft in the direction of stick movement, and the elevons are now more effective at acting like massive airbrakes during your ground rollout. Turn performance: We’ve been spending considerable time fine-nudging and tuning turn performance and related parameters. This is delicate work and has required a steady balance between changing too much and causing cascading effects. Like most of the FM in this stage of development, these changes are truly minute and will continue until launch day (and beyond!). wut? Engine Our engine model is now reaching advanced maturity and we’re reaching the stage where we’re adding features not deemed integral to the operation or simulation in the Early Access stage. However, because a deep and robust engine simulation is even more important for the F-14A; we want to make sure to have a head start on this area of development. Some of the changes and items added to the engine modeling lately include: Connected various missing interconnectivity between integral aircraft systems, e.g. correct data flows between CADC and AICS/AFTC. Added several new failures; including supersonic inlet buzz and pop stalls due to lost CADC Mach signals. Engine compartment failures due to sustained extreme temperatures, either from engine malfunctions causing extreme EGT or battle damage. We’ve done our best estimate guesswork on how quickly the structural compartments would fail based on the temperatures we’re simulating inside the engine compartment. Multitudes of tweaks and corrections; changes to thrust penalties from AICS errors, turbine overtemp time/severity before turbine begins to degrade and much more. As our engine simulation becomes more deep, we will begin to spend more time fine tuning inconsistencies across the entire simulation gamut. Overhauled compressor stall chance and variability - and began to account for more variables impacting the correct operation of the engine: e.g. spin direction in a flat spin. Once we consider the F110 to be fully complete; we will turn all of our attention on the P&W TF-30. Our new and improved LANTIRN visual shader Other areas of the simulation that are being worked on become more broad. In no particular order or priority: Jester AI: This is a massive topic and we’ve been focusing a lot of our attention on this area. In particular, we’ve been working on: Re-recording all older, or non-fitting voice lines (especially those that were recorded prior to us having a solid understanding of how the system would look). This has resulted in re-recording a few thousand lines in the past month and a half. Adding code support for making JESTER appear more lifelike. Mistakes, uh’s and ah’s, conjoining multiple separate statements into one where possible. I think we’re all familiar with ArmA-ness in speech and it’s difficult to avoid this entirely, but we’ve been trying to alleviate this as much as possible. Complete redesign of the User Interface from a visual standpoint. While we’ve been pleased with the usability of the JESTER Rose UI; it was in dire need of a visual overhaul. We focused on a few key areas during this process, namely: Quick readability at a glance, strong identifiable category colours and iconography, pleasing and responsive interaction animation (opening, closing, item selection) and enhancement of text space. We’re currently implementing this new redesign fully and it may not be entirely complete at launch, but we consider it a high priority. Teaching Jester a lot of tasks pertaining to navigation, radios, radar and fleshing out his capability as much as we can prior to release. Make no mistake; Jester will be at its most rudimentary form on launch, but our ultimate goal is to provide ourselves with a solid foundation to build upon. JESTER UI mockup. Categories are purposefully generic in this mockup. In-Game appearance may differ. Click to enlarge Art! ART! The big elephant in the room. This has been the cause of a lot of hurt and pain (financially, life-wise, PR, etc.) It really is the cause for the biggest chunk of our delay and the additional cost overhead has been massive. Quality has to always take precedence, no matter how frustrating for everyone involved (and that includes you guys ) Again, in no particular order, priorities for the art team have been: Full completion of exterior textures. This has been an immense task. We’ve hand laid thousands of screws and rivets (yes, manually, each one. ) according to laser and photogrammetric scans. There have been no shortcuts, and no cut corners. This is probably the first and only time we go into this much detail on such an “inconsequential” thing whether screws are in such extremely precise locations. Completion of the Pilot’s cockpit textures and functionality. This area is now for the most part complete and will wrap up in the coming days. We can’t wait to fully unveil the novel and unique features that will elevate our artwork to the next level. That’s coming on the 7th! Completion of the RIOs cockpit textures and functionality. This area is scheduled for completion in the coming weeks of September and will be one of the final major items left for us to conclude. This image has been resized. Click this bar to view the full image. The original image is sized 1500x778. This image has been resized. Click this bar to view the full image. The original image is sized 1700x789. Other major items that we’ve been improving, changing or implementing include, in shorthand: Full completion of the ALR-67 RWR LAU-138 CMs Main fuselage CMs Connecting various subsystems missing their various dependencies. Improvements to the kneeboard. Addition of many avionics failures in various different systems and subsystems. Overhaul of weapons stations numbering and connections to fit new exterior model. Several additions to datalink, carrier-aircraft, aircraft-aircraft and behaviour between navigation and datalink type systems. Improvement of LANTIRN Pod: Improved visual shaders, more accurate fonts, masking lines and other symbology. Continued work on the Forrestal class and associated assets; including deck cranes and other vehicles. We’ve begun with the very basics; by trying to perfect the look of our carrier deck. See screenshot below! ...and much much more. That just about sums up most of what we’ve been working on over the past 1,5 month(s). Obviously we’ve somewhat slipped from the 90 day estimate we made 4 months ago; but not dramatically so, and while we easily expect to be ground down mentally over the next period of time, it’s just about time for us to get our ducks (turkeys) in a row and close what will essentially be a long chapter in each of our lives. We hope it will have been worth it. Tune in at heatblur.com on October 7th for our special unveiling. We won’t let you down! Sincerely, The Heatblur F-14 Team This image has been resized.
