  1. Stupid thing

Usually you would need to contact the developers http://www.overflandersfields.com/store.html
  2. DCS News & Modern Air Combat

MAC is basically Flaming Cliffs 4 so you get some new jets at the same simplified level but with Advanced Flight Models. An F-16 is in development as a high fidelity module only at the moment so potentially in the future.......but that could be 5 - 7 years on current time scales.
  3. Simplicity is all well and good but not always at the expense of capability.....the argument was made for keeping A-10As and A-7Ds in Active Duty and not completely removing the capability the A-7D provided. Yes YA-10 I think however the A-10A didn't receive a comparable bombing system until the early 1990s (LASTE). There is some backup in the A-7D which consists of 3 hydraulic systems and a RAT and some control if any 2 fail....however the argument made is it is far less likely to get hit at higher speeds and it didn't need to go back the next day to try and hit the same target missed the day before.
  4. The gripe was at the time that it could not replace the A-7D in its primary role (not CAS)- The A-10 in the flyoff was a ww2 a/c which had no avionics - not much point having all those mk-82s if it can only carpet bomb. The A-7D could accuratly hit a tank with a mk-82 by this point. Valid concerns from Vietnam CAS vets. As for range that can be verified now potentially with flight test data. So yeah pull out a few things it can do better - likewise an F-35 can do a lot of A-G things far better and they can be emphasised in the same manner. ;)
  5. The 1970s A-10A V A-7D flyoff was a bit of a farce as well it seems just to get the A-10 into service.
  6. Some kind of Super Starfighter you mean? https://theaviationgeekclub.com/lockheed-lancer-super-starfighter-never/
  7. Epic video............the guy explains how he did it at the end - was filmed at about 1/8 speed and then sped up.
  8. He posted it on the You tube comments As it's come up as a common question, usually the F-15c's Won, sometimes the Su-27's did, the winner usually snowballed towards the end leaving something like 30 aircraft on the winning side and 1 or 2 loosing aircraft surviving. They were all armed with 4x Heat seeking missiles, to keep the fight close in.
  9. DCS News & Modern Air Combat

So yes FWIW the DCS module is the later F-5E-3 from 79-1681 with an Auto flaps setting and not the early F-5Es the VNAF received.
  10. DCS News & Modern Air Combat

The VNAF did operate the F-5E [Delivered] from 1972.....for example 01638 was used by a defector to bomb the South Vietnam Palace in 75. What I am not sure on is that I think it was an earlier version without the automatic LEF/TEFs to what is in DCS. References on this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/F-5-Tigers-Vietnam-Anthony-Tambini/dp/0828320594 https://www.bookdepository.com/Fall-Flying-Dragon-Albert-Grandolini/9780982553978 http://www.joebaugher.com/usaf_fighters/f5_40.html https://www.amazon.co.uk/Iranian-Tigers-War-Northrop-Sub-Variants/dp/1910294136 The VPAF kindly donated an F-5E to Russia.............there is a video and one of the test pilots who flew it in 1976 and later wrote an account on how he outflew MiG-21/23s in mock dogfights. The F-5C definitely had the fuel probe removed - the VNAF were to be purely defensive.
  11. https://combataircraft.keypublishing.com/2018/05/29/tougher-tiger/ The Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF), Thai Aviation Industries (TAI) and Elbit Systems have rolled out the first of 14 upgraded Northrop Grumman F-5ST Super Tigers. The first upgraded aircraft is a two-seat F-5F (serial 21105).
  12. DCS News & Modern Air Combat

Yes I thought the F-5E-3 module was later to what the VNAF used but have not spent the time looking. The F-86F-35 also missed out on the Korean war as well I thought. Was thinking they were intentionally avoiding any of the Cold War Proxy wars.
  13. SF2 has a mission editor (and campaign customiser) you can buy as DLCs. Before that i used Notepad so have not experienced the missing flights myself. The SF2 mission editor is easy to use and you can create more realistic missions but is limited compared to DCS/BMS The situational awareness thing - in reality you should be able to jump aircraft because nothing should be able to detect you in this era all the time.........just not realistic ever. Now the AI over the SF2 development definitely does have a lot of SA in the later patches - to much as far as I am concerened but in the later patches TK was more driven by the majority of his customers who just wanted a dogfight. Yes the AI uses countermeasures if it has them as far as expendables go. The AI (ace level) can be lethal with guns (MiG-15/17/19 best) but you need to get rid of the red planes on the map and anything else that lets you cheat.....you will then see how difficult it is to keep checking your 6. The AI has different levels of training like other sims so the bottom level (e.g. VPAF) are easy prey whereas the top level (Soviet) can be a nightmare..especially if you are stuck in an F-100! The BMS AI is good with missiles which is where it fights most but not so good with guns but is OK overall I would say. The DCS AI is good with missiles but the worst close in.......... they kind of ignore you and keep going up into some kind of roller coaster pattern until you get bored. Very certain the top level AI cheats and gets a major thrust boost over the player. I have never seen a FW-190 stall out at the top of a climb and level out then pull up again into a vertical climb like a Raptor..nearly fell off my chair. The price is a concern and TK has recently put them up it would seem Here is a log of major changes in SF2 we picked up
  14. DCS News & Modern Air Combat

Disclaimer: The MiG-21bis was not used in any part of the Vietnam war.
  15. Yes every game/sim has its AI issues so you aint gonna find harmony there.....and with combat sims each game has something the others don't. What was the main AI issue you had?
  16. You often have another flight fragged as escorts so stick to your timings or fly close to that flight. Another way would be to use one of your flights as extra escorts so you can order them to engage if you get attacked. A last resort could be to use the help feature and a load of friendly's will come to your rescue...think this was limited though to how many times it could be used.
  17. DCS Weekend news and Sale

It is advertised as coming with a campaign and missions so you should get The Valley campaign with another 8 single missions going by what comes with Flaming Cliffs 3 (which is supposed to be exactly the same) Note that the A-10A is a lite module and not a full simulator like the A-10C if that is what you are after. Also note that Flaming Cliffs 3 is worth considering at $24.99 for this instead of buying single modules at $7.49 because it comes with the A-10A and 7 others: DCS: Flaming Cliffs 3 (FC3) is the next evolution of the Flaming Cliffs series. FC3 features the F-15C, A-10A, Su-27, Su-33, MiG-29A, MiG-29S, Su-25T, and Su-25

Next week will bring an update that includes many additions and improvements to our Hornet. DCS: Black Shark 2 – 2018 Trailer In 2011 we released DCS: Black Shark 2, which is still the most authentic simulation of the Russian Ka-50 attack helicopter. Seven years later, the Ka-50 is still one of the most fun and exciting aircraft to fly in DCS World. With the graphical and updated world (like the new tree system and grass) that DCS World 2.5 brings, the Ka-50 is better than ever. To highlight just how great the Ka-50 is to fly in DCS World 2.5, we’ve created an updated trailer video. Later this year, we’ll also be updating the Ka-50 cockpit (and A-10C!) to use our very latest graphic technologies. Black Shark 2, 2018 Trailer Purchase the Ka-50 now at 50% off F/A-18C Pilot Explains How to Land on a Carrier in DCS World Former F/A-18C Hornet pilot Lex Talionis talks about his experience flying and landing a Hornet in DCS World, and he shares his thoughts on PC flight simulations, virtual reality, and being a real Hornet pilot. 20. DCS Weekend news and Sale

Just a note on versions: The current version number of the 2 main development DCS worlds (Stable and Open Beta) can be checked here http://updates.digitalcombatsimulator.com/ The older 1.5.8 can still be downloaded and used but will not be updated anymore and neither will any modules on it. If you have an older PC then this is the best version to try. If you are going to attempt 2.5 Stable or Open Beta then heed warning of the current minimum specs: Minimum system requirements (LOW graphics settings): OS 64-bit Windows 7/8/10; DirectX11; CPU: Intel Core i3 at 2.8 GHz or AMD FX; RAM: 8 GB (16 GB for heavy missions); Free hard disk space: 60 GB; Discrete video card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 / AMD R9 280X or better; requires internet activation.
  21. Interesting - looks pretty good. There have been quite a few artists fiction drawings kicking around of what would happen if a certain jet (A-10 etc) was turned into an angled stealth type jet. Obviously in reality the nose intake died out for a couple of reasons - 1 being the airflow to the engine was not as good as when moved back - and 2 there is no room to put a decent radar in the nose............in fact they even toyed with this with the MiG-21 (Ye-8 ) before going with the MiG-23. I will note that it was uncertain how the X-32 was going to get around the tiny nose and matter of massive radar return from the fan at the front. Stealth fighters are not just about RF and IR stealth like the F-117 pretty much was, you have to have avionics from Star Trek, internal weapons (lots), a lot of internal fuel, and still maintain some traditional performance metrics which needs bigger airframes.
  22. http://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/21790/f-a-18-pilot-gives-incredibly-detailed-instructions-on-how-to-actually-land-on-a-carrier Landing a fighter aboard a pitching and rolling carrier deck is one of the most challenging exercises in all of aviation. Just the idea of bringing a jet safely back to the boat, in potentially terrible conditions, after an already stressing mission has long captured the imagination of the entertainment industry and the public at large. We have even published a first-hand account of how this process occurs in the dark of night and how challenging mastering it can be. But now, thanks to Digital Combat Simulator—better known as DCS—the most realistic realization of this experience ever available to the public can be had for $79, or about 1/230th the cost of a single Hornet flight hour. And with the help of a former Hornet pilot, you too can learn to master this elite skill—or at least understand its complexities better than ever before.
