Spending a little time in SF2
MigBuster replied to streakeagle's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Finally installed "The Last of the Lightnings" mod and have been recently doing my OCU conversion on the Lightning F.mk6...which also includes a Hawker Hunter, F-4M Phantom and the amazing Buccaneer tanker for A-A refuel practise! -
Best Jet trainer
MigBuster replied to other444's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
The F-5E is very good but somewhat lacking in avionics compared to the FA-18C I'm thinking ( A-10C & F-16C in BMS! ).........but love the multi flap options. I don't know how the F-14 will be done............ .there was talk of some kind of Jester AI to be the GIB but avionics wise maybe the F-5E might be similar. with lots of analogue dials. I have the Hawk and you do sadly notice a drop in quality compared to the other modules so havnt touched it much............I do believe VEAO are suspending work until DCS sort out v2.5 now..probably a good move. The easiest to get into for me were the MiG-15bis and F-86F, both easy to start and fly, whereas tail draggers (fairly new to me) like the P-51D and Spitfire mk9 are easy to start but an absolute nightmare to take off/land. A good campaign is a must so you can get some use of the aircraft IMO.........was doing the Museum Relic in the MiG-15bis...great missions and good bit of fun...............got taken out by a MANPAD and an R-60 from a Su-25............also dogfighting 3 x A-10s in the vertical (as you do)............. I can't hit jack with those guns! . -

10 Forward Swept wing aircraft that never were
MigBuster posted a topic in Military and General Aviation
https://hushkit.net/2017/05/02/broken-boomerangs-ten-forward-swept-wing-aircraft-that-never-were/ If the world was run by 7-year-old boys (admittedly we’re not far off this right now) the skies would be full of Sabre Bats duelling with MiGs. The name is perfect, it looked perfect- but it was not to be. The Sabre Bat was Rockwell’s response to a DARPA brief for a FSW research aircraft, that led to the Grumman X-29...............- 1 reply

The US Navy accepted delivery of the USS Gerald R. Ford on May 31st. CVN 78 is the first in its class (Ford class) and first new carrier design since the USS Nimitz (CVN 68) came into the fleet in 1975. https://fightersweep.com/7956/us-navy-accepts-newest-carrier-uss-gerald-r-ford-cvn-78/

Wingman Radar
MigBuster replied to other444's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
You can actually lock up a target on radar at any range and set that as a target....then ask a flight or wingy to engage it. Yes wingy radar likely on the whole time.............there might be a flight menu option to switch off..or I might be thinking of Falcon 4 in that regards. -
As expected, the size and design of the huge and exotic aircraft is impressive to say the least. At 385 feet wide, it has the longest wingspan of any aircraft in the world—even longer than the record-setting Hughes H-4 Flying Boat, aka the "Spruce Goose." Loaded fully, it will tip the scales at a whopping 1,300,000 pounds, and is powered by six Pratt & Whitney PW4056 turbofan engines—the same engine that powers many 747-400s—putting out a combined 340,500 pounds of thrust. http://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/10937/stratolaunchs-massive-mothership-rolls-out-of-its-nest-for-the-first-time

Mig-21 pilot account from the 1973 Yom Kippur War
MigBuster posted a topic in Military and General Aviation
https://tribune.com.pk/story/855837/50-years-on-memories-of-the-1973-arab-israeli-conflict/ On our side: We were always the first to scramble whenever a threat materialised. We were flying Mig-21F13, which had been almost phased out in the world’s air forces. The gun on board was ancient and had probably never been harmonised. The missile was K-13, the first Russian design and a copy of Sidewinder. The aircraft had barely enough fuel to last a maximum of 30 minutes in air without combat, which was a severe handicap. None of us was familiar with the terrain because we mostly flew over Lebanon, north of Israel and the Mediterranean. We had absolutely no intelligence information on the Israeli air force operations and tactics. The Syrians could not tell us anything constructive to assist us in combat.- 1 reply

Hey there! First of all, apologies that we haven't been in touch for a while. We are hard at it with development and will be releasing another patch shortly. Among other things, we've recently been working with satellite imagery. Here's yesterdays Dev Sit Rep entry: 'Textures for the Gulf and Yuma are now signed off :) Working on the Mach Loop/Wales textures today together with Hawaii as that should be relatively straight forward. It’s looking great, adding to the diversity and realism of the environment. All of this terrain/scenery development is necessary for finalising the missions and campaign that we know you are all eager to get your hands on :)' You can follow the Dev Sit Rep here - we are now making almost daily updates. Internet radio interview If you haven't already, check out this pod cast on Xtended radio, Europes premier aerospace internet radio programme. 'We are joined by Ed Scio from Sim155 to talk about Combat Air Patrol 2. It is a fascinating discussion on how flight simulators are designed and built' The whole thing is worth a listen, however if you're short of time the CAP2 part starts 30-40 mins in. Store page translations We asked for your help in the Steam community and were delighted with the response, we now have our store page translated into 18 languages. However we still need the following translations: Japanese, Arabic, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian Thai, Traditional Chinese and Ukrainian. If you would like to help please email f.scio@sim155.com - those that complete the translation will get a shout out in the CAP2 credits once we have completed the list. Stay updated We don't email you with every minor development so be sure to follow us on twitter and/or facebook for more frequent news. As always, many thanks for your ongoing support! Kind Regards Sim155 Ltd Early Access: Creating the game you want 'this is exactly the sort of sim I want to play and there's not been enough of them in recent years. I have feeling this will turn out cracking' 'I'm still having fun with it despite any early bugs which are being worked on and the Devs are closely working with the community feedback' 'in my opinion the Devs are the most active devs I've come across on steam addressing game issues and listening to those who are currently testing the game' 'from flying the Harrier what little I have SIM155 is going to knock it out of the park' 'I am really starting to like it after flying around a bit, can't wait to see how it will develop' 'showing a lot of promise. Buy it if you want to support development'

What's the Status of the Series - Cause I Dearly Miss my IAF Jets.
MigBuster replied to Arrow's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
SF2 is stuck at around 1982 officially regarding time lines out side of what has been modded.........so the 4th gen F-14A / F-15A / F-16A all have pretty decent radar sets to that year...although you need SF2NA for the F-14A avionics (IIRC) How long is it since DCS:A-10?............. is that 6/7 years since all the excitement of this and that will happen etc?........ED look to be happy to go it slow alongside their commercial flight sim business and cater for a specialist niche...............SF2 was a niche within a niche when desktop/Laptop & Windows was the only game in town! A full working Desert Storm with all objects as we had in SF2 years back?........ETA = 2029 -
What's the Status of the Series - Cause I Dearly Miss my IAF Jets.
MigBuster replied to Arrow's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Short answer = Yes Here is some recent comments from Facebook Third Wire We're working on more PC games, but they won't be anything like the SF2 series, they'll be based on the more successful mobile games. We wish we could continue to work on SF2, but not enough people bought the last two SF2 titles for that, so we are trying something different. If you are one of the few people who bought every one of our PC titles, we thank you for your support, we really do appreciate you, and we couldn't have done it for so long without you. Unfortunately, there just wasn't enough of you out there for us to continue. If you want SF2 to continue, it's not us that you need to try to convince, it's the other players. We have too many players who only buy one title and expect us to continue to update it forever. Even if only half the people who own one of our games (either SF1 or SF2 titles) have bought SF2NA when it came out, that would have been more than enough to fund the next SF2 title. But unfortunately, that didn't happen, only a small tiny fraction of our users returned to buy SF2NA. If you're still on SF1 series, that means you haven't bought our last 8 titles (at least!). If you only have SF2 Europe, then you haven't bought our last 4 titles. It should be no surprise that we're not making more games like the ones you haven't been buying, and making something else instead -------------------- Third Wire There is a good market for flight sim, and plenty of other people have bought (and enjoyed) our games over the years. SF1 series was successful enough for us to do SF2, and SF2 series was successful enough for 2 expansions, countless DLCs, and SF2 NA. All of them have been successful, except the last two (SF2 Exp2 and SF2 NA). That's how we know the series has exhausted itself, and we know we've taken the series as far as we could. If you didn't buy them because you didn't like how our games worked, then it shouldn't matter to you if we had continued the series or not. But if you didn't buy them because they were too similar, then that pretty much says it all. Any new flight sim we do would be very similar to ones we already have – same game, different planes. Atlantic Fleet was an iOS game, so if you could enjoy that on PC, then maybe you could enjoy our mobile games on PC too ;) And you do know Cold Water is a completely different game in different genre than Atlantic Fleet (real-time vs turn-based), right? That's basically what we're doing, instead of doing the same thing again, we're doing something different. -------------------- Sadly PR and advertising were never introduced to Thirdwires business plans it seems............... Actually I will add..........I think Thirdwire can be commended by changing with the times, (as many other companies have failed to do and gone under)......and seizing on the opportunity of the mainstream move to mobile PC platforms (iOS, Android etc). From their point of view their customer base and exposure went through the roof, the tech support issues and hassle were reduced to pretty much nothing (to what they were) and have a new business model with a successful revenue stream. The comments above regarding SF2 however are poor and TK does himself more justice when he shuts up.........you could add to the above: "If you didn't buy SF2 because you had never heard of it" or "If you didn't buy SF2 because the limited visibility upgrades gave no incentive to do so!" Problems he might have had to answer himself had the technology not changed at that point.
