Stary replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
such a gross insult is not tolerated here! MODS! MODS! j/k bro!!! remember the terrain in shots is using the test tileset, not the final one... -

yes structural limits have been now overmodelled a bit, also many mods are quite old and need updating, like the F-11 -
Adding trees to a tile?
Stary replied to Stratos's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
those dealing with "just" tiles, minor retiling and TODs still have seizures everytime they click on Terrain Editor executable, I simply can't imagine what happens to the terrain creation Gurus like Wrench and two, three others -
IIRC improved DM both in engine calculations and visually

noisenormal & waternormal questions
Stary replied to squid's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
in a given terrain's DATA file try changing this value: [HeightField] DetailScale=1.0 DetailFrequency=1.0 MaxHeight=1000 MinHeight=0 lower to 0.5 or increase to 2.0 to see if there's effect on the way noise map tiles, IIRC used to work such way back in series 1 -

good point Ruggbutt shame, as I kinda like the Codemasters rendition of Flashpoint, surely the spirit of original stays strong with BI masters, but DR and RR were for me like modern incarnation of good old Novalogic Delta Force titles. When one stopped bitching it ain't like 2001 original these were quite ok titles, much better than your typical modern warfare fps title. But yeah, some gameplay decisions sucked big time

A-10C 1.1.0.9 constant crashes
Stary posted a topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
The steam version, which is 1.1.0.9, haven't upgraded to 1.1.1.0 as there are reports of high unstability I was able to run it three or four times in instant action or the free flight from runway mission, either on low or medium settings, tha latter being smooth in it's 30s FPS crash occures near the end of loadind mission, with that yellow cursor wisible on screen, with background image, both windowed and full screen. After some reading on ED forum (as Steam doesn't have one...) I set both launcher.exe and DCS.exe to run as administrator with no effect, I have disabled Aero all the time Win7 32bit logs usually report ether (...)steamapps\common\dcs a-10c warthog\bin\x86\edTerrain.dll or (...)steamapps\common\dcs a-10c warthog\bin\x86\edterraingraphics3.dll -

This little modification is my tweak to several textures from "ODS" Iraq/Piecemeal's Desert3 terrains. Created with "Updated Default SF2 Terrain by Piecemeal V 1.2" in mind, this pack changes the look of desert-to-mountain transitions tiles, making them much more sloped rocks thus standing out from surrounding sands. Tile-specific heightmap files (_HM) used to achieve more detailed mesh displacement. Matter of one's preferences, it's one of those not necessary optional mods ;) All the transition textures are based on work by Deuces for original ODS terrain, further used in Piecemeal's Desert3 update of stock SF2 Parani/Dhimari map. -
