WEP question
CJLivesey posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Hi, I was wondering if someone could answer some questions on the implementation of WEP on the PROP_ENGINE system type? 1) Was this system fully implemented in SFP2 or have more recent patches broken it? 2) The WEPTimeLimit= parameter - does this actually work? I've been trying to figure this out by creating engines with almost zero "SLPowerDry" and giving a reasonable level of "SLPowerWEP". The hope is to test if WEP is actually working - the idea being to get the aircraft to takeoff and climb for a minute or two at WEP power before seeing power suddenly drop off as WEP runs out. All that happens is that the plane struggles to even move on the runway with almost zero thrust - WEP never kicks in, effectively giving a 0hp engine. If anyone has any clues or can even share the engine section from TK's P-51D as an example that'd be great. Thanks! -
Hi there guys, I have been wondering something for a while. Wandering around the DATA ini of some VTOL aircrafts I realised that there is a type of engine dedicated to attitude control (obviously there must be a way to move around the aircraft when you are almost static in the air), that as you may already know, are the RCS. I have not seen any exhaust effect applied to this systems in game, for example a Harrier hovering only has the exhaust effect of its four nozzles, but do you know if it is possible to add effects to them? I was thinking of using RCS effects to use them in a spacecraft model, burning only as you use them when maneuvering the ship. That would be very cool indeed! I already tried copying the ExhaustEffect command hoping that it would work but it didn't... Do you have any other idea to at least fake this thrusters?

Favorite engine sounds?
Spudknocker posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
I recently got around to changing the stock Jetengine and JetBurner sound on almost all of my jets as I HATE the stock third Wire sound. So this topic isnt really a question about how to do someting but more of a what are the CA community's favorite sounds to replace the stock thirdwire sounds? (Theres no wrong Answers) I would say mine is the J79 and J79Burner sounds released with most F-4 mods! -
New dry thrust/mil power sounds?
wiwa posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Hey, I'd like to change the sound of the engine in dry thrust or 100% military power (no afterburner). The file that needs to be changed is called JetEngine in the sound folder. The default sound is just lame. I have a hairdryer that makes an even more impressive sound. In real life the full mil power sounds of a jet engine really screams. And then, when the throttle is pushed even further you have the added rumble and decibels of an afterburner. I found no existing mods for the dry non afterburning sounds. I'm a sound tech myself and could make some sounds myself. I tried something but I can't seem to make it work for the SF2 series. For the clarity. I want to change the JetEngine file in the soundfolder. When I make a new sound and name it 'JetEngine' it doesn't seem to work. I changed the sounds of sims like Falcon, MSFS in the past. But somehow this works different. How? Can anyone help me out?- 10 replies
