Posidyn Posted Friday at 04:53 AM Posted Friday at 04:53 AM Hello Everyone. I am trying to get First Eagles The Great War: 1918 to work on my Windows 11 PC. Installed, patched and setup DgVoodoo2. When I enter Instant Action, it would work for around 2 minutes, freeze for about 2 seconds and then crash back to desktop. Single mission and campaign seems to work fine. I have tried changing a whole host of things in DgVoodoo2 and always the same result. Anyone have any ideas? Thank you.
ValAstur Posted Friday at 06:29 PM Posted Friday at 06:29 PM (edited) Have you tried any compatibility settings? If possible, better pick FE 2. It should work on a Win11 PC. At least SF2 does it for me. Edited Friday at 06:32 PM by ValAstur
streakeagle Posted yesterday at 02:57 AM Posted yesterday at 02:57 AM Why use DgVoodoo2? It should work with DirectX.
Posidyn Posted yesterday at 07:08 AM Author Posted yesterday at 07:08 AM Compatibility settings I have tried are "running as admin", WinXPSP2 and WinXPSP3. Didn't make any difference. I use DgVoodoo2 because it boosts performance significantly. I think it boosts performance. All of the flying is much smoother. I will consider getting First Eagles 2, but a bit scared I'll run into the same problems.
Silberpfeil Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago No direct experience with DGVoodoo2 used with FE, so can't comment on that. My first experience has been with an older (but hardware capable) Windows 10 desktop that had FE2 installed - IIRC, there was no need to change compatibility or other settings. I upgraded the desktop to Windows 11 a couple months after it was first available and had no difficulties with operating FE2 after the upgrade. Sometime after that I purchased a new Windows 11 laptop. After installing FE2 in the new machine I experienced choppy flight experience with an occasional hard CTD. Changing the FE2 properties to compatibility with Windows 7 was a partial solution, as was checking Settings/System/Optional features/More Windows features to be sure both “Legacy” boxes were checked. Another option that seemed to help was downloading and installing the DirectX EndUser Runtimes Web Installer program that may be found at: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=17431 Good luck! And for all the rivet-counters out there, here's my mandatory forum screen pic: 2
VonS Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago @OP, also suggested is to check over the following (vintage) post, regarding the generic dx9 DLLs available via the ENB website -- those help improve ave. FPS in FE (specifically in FE2), and may be a good alternative to dgVoodoo. Many thanks to gTerl for the original suggestion sometime around circa 2018. Currently I have no pics to post as a complement to the excellent Fokk. E.V illustrated above, so I'll merely link to a relevant clip from FE2 on a Mac (some early Benz Alb. D.I action; see below). Cheers & good flying to you,
