+Monty CZ Posted February 6, 2003 Posted February 6, 2003 I wrote some info here: http://www.simhq.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cg...c;f=55;t=004175 easy to make and effective I think Quote
Gecko6 Posted February 6, 2003 Posted February 6, 2003 Early in the Cuba dev. I successfully placed an F-4E on the tarmac. I was interupted by life events and never was able to get the skin on it. Once I get the objects placed in Cuba and start to mod the Cuban Airbases I want to have IL-28s and Migs on the flight line and in the arming area. Once I get it to work I will post a "How To". If someone else does it first please do the same? Quote
PhabulousPhantom Posted February 7, 2003 Posted February 7, 2003 Yeah i`d love to see some more.. active airfields. Like Sturmovik, theres cars driving around, aircraft parked here and there. It feels alive.. Also, the Airfields could use some retextureing... cos some of the things (like the Fuel tanks) dont look much better then like in... A-10 Cuba.. PP Quote
+Monty CZ Posted February 7, 2003 Author Posted February 7, 2003 Gecko, I think that texture has to be in object folder or in the same directory as LOD... i will try it Quote
+Deuces Posted February 7, 2003 Posted February 7, 2003 Static a/c is possible. Just did a quick attempt and it needs some tweakin, the F100's are sunk down a bit....I obviously got carried away as you can see it's a huge framerate hit. But it's pretty easy to do. Quote
Evil^Milk Posted February 8, 2003 Posted February 8, 2003 Now That looks realistic, Deuces! The whole place looks fantastic! Too bad it's a huge framerate hit... any idea on how to lower it but still have as many planes? Maybe some modder can cut down the polygons by deleting some of them in 3dS and placing it as a new static plane... Quote
+Deuces Posted February 8, 2003 Posted February 8, 2003 I think that's the way to go. This example ofcourse was using the game's a/c. I'm sure that's why it hit frames so hard. So some static models, lower polycount and two state...intact and destroyed might open some new strike possibilities as well as bring the bases to life. Quote
Guest Sony Tuckson Posted February 8, 2003 Posted February 8, 2003 Hell guys !!!! How nice this project looks appart from texturing, I'm afraid I can't help, but this idea is really great Quote
+Monty CZ Posted February 9, 2003 Author Posted February 9, 2003 I see that you are in the same way, but I think we could make new ground object instead of change Barack LOD to F-100 LOD. :-) Framerate problem could be solved by using only few (5 or so) planes per Airfield, and using LOD 5 models (the simpliest level) I think that texture resolution droped to 256x256 will helps too. Visibility range could be changed to 2000 and from 200 we can use more detailed LOD (level 3 or 2 will be fine) Quote
+Deuces Posted February 11, 2003 Posted February 11, 2003 Yea I'm confidentthe frame hit was the number of a/c and the LOD file used. I was just curious if it could be done and what would happen. The airfields are just way to sterile as is. Quote
