*Fast Eagle* 0 Posted February 11, 2003 Does the Navy own/fly the F-16 Fighting Falcon? If so for what reasons?...50 point bonus...
navychief 1 Posted February 11, 2003 Well Skipper I know that Top Gun uses them for adversary training...... Chief W. Do I get the cigar?
*Fast Eagle* 0 Posted February 11, 2003 the cigar and the 50 bonus points!!! The F-16 was used for DACT, in the adversary role. No longer used, it has been replaced. But by what??? the next 50 point question and for another 50 points, what aircraft was designed for the air force, yet beat out, then picked for the Navy??? navychief 1 Posted February 11, 2003 Hmmm....best as I can tell, the F/A-18 Hornet and the F-14 Tomcat have replaced the F-16. Right? Haven't found answer to other question, but still looking. Btw way, I found two GREAT urls you need to go check out. One is a Tomcat page at: http://www.topedge.com/alley/alley.htm The other is a fantastic place to go for Navy Aviation pictures at: http://www.air-navy.com GO NAVAIR! Chief W. +Nightshade/PR 8,006 Posted February 11, 2003 The F-18, or as it was known then, the F-
*Fast Eagle* 0 Posted February 11, 2003 50 points to Nightshade/PR It was the F-18, then known as YF-17 while in RD&E for the air force This plane lost out to the F-16 Fighting Falcon for the Air Force fly-offs The Navy picked up the project(unfortunatley) and dubbed it the F-18, later redesignated F/A-18 on a side note The Navy wasted alot of time and money on this aircraft. Had it not been for the political pressure, this aircraft would not be in the current Navy inventory. Nor does it really need to be. It takes 3 of these aircraft to do the same job as 1 Tomcat, not to mention that the 3 F/A-18 will require 1.5 tankers worth of fuel, and the range is pathetic on this aircraft. The Cat can simultaniously engage 6 targets, at different airspeeds and altitudes due to the phoenix having its own radar, while the hornet can fire only 2 sparrows at a time against targets which are close together. Unlike the phoenix, the sparrow requires the hornet to continue flying toward the target using its radar, thus making it vulnerable to a return missile shot
Guest Ranger332 Posted February 11, 2003 who in the Navy uses these? http://www.history.navy.mil/planes/f-5.html and in reply to nightshade Modernization development is underway for the next Hornet series, the F/A-18E/F, which will provide increased mission radius, endurance, and survivability above that of its predecessor while providing the capacity for twenty-plus years of growth that is unavailable in the current F/A-18C/D. There will be extensive commonality in weapons systems, avionics, and software between the two aircraft and the infrastructure for supporting the new Hornet will grow from in-place organizations. The lethality, flexibility, reliability, and survivability of the F/A-18E/F will make it the aircraft of choice to fulfill the majority of missions associated with They seem to have fath in it
*Fast Eagle* 0 Posted February 11, 2003 Official Navy performance evals state that the new (in 1995) F/A-18 E/F Super Hornet can fly up to 40% further on a typical interdiction mission and can stay on station 80% longer during CAP, still far short of the basic A model Cat Besides it is ugly as f**k
*Fast Eagle* 0 Posted February 11, 2003 who in the Navy uses these? Well no one in the Navy uses those anymore. They were used by NFWS as adversaries for DACT, but all DACT aircraft have been replaced by the F/A-18 Hornet. No other aircraft is used by the Navy for DACT. Guest Ranger332 Posted February 11, 2003 GO BUY A SMOKE ON ME lol for the most part the F-5 was a great Aggressor jet the only reason it was removed was the Navy had inventory props and its not a part of thier T.O.E. F-5 bro not the F-
CowboyTodd41 134 Posted February 11, 2003 yes! The F-16N
*Fast Eagle* 0 Posted February 11, 2003 F-16N was phased out of DACT in 1998. I think it would be a better aggressor than the Hornet
snapple2993 0 Posted February 12, 2003 We should just trade the Czechs and Poles some F-18/15/16's for some migs and sukhoi's... hmm that could be a new economic package... Get first 100 planes/tanks/missles free and everything else half off, if you trade in all your old stuff. I cant wait to become a litigator on behalf of the government.
