FastCargo 412 Posted November 12, 2007 The real thing. There have been attempts throughout history to do a practical flying car. They have all been failures...usually because the vehicle ended up not doing either function well... FastCargo

I manage to survive until the 21st century and I still don't have my jetpack or flying car.

TX3RN0BILL 3 Posted November 13, 2007 It occurs to me that many inventions are failures, ...until someone gets it right. Indeed. The Wright Brothers were the first to get it right - making the first working "aeroplane".

+Zurawski 33 Posted November 13, 2007 We can't manage to have a morning commute without some bimbo or yahoo yakking on the cell phone while applying make-up or shaving, causing some horrific pile-up... ... What bizzaro world logic says putting these nit-wits in a flying car is going to be better? Flying cars don't get rid of traffic congestion... it just creates a new location for it. TX3RN0BILL 3 Posted November 13, 2007 At least accidents won't create bottlenecks because nobody will notice the wrecks on the ground, they're not impeding the traffic to flow along the air lanes!
+DoctorQuest 125 Posted November 13, 2007 The only practical way to do this would be to have the cars be computer controlled in certain classes of airspace. Having folks flying around willy-nilly would be a disaster waiting to happen. Of course, if you get out of crowded airspace you might be able to allow folks "manual" control of the thing. We're probably at the "automobiles will never replace horses" stage of this debate. We may never see true flying cars but we may end up seeing something we can't imagine yet as a result of all the research.
