I play at 1680x1050 on a 21" LCD. Its great!

I thought you meant 22"... as far as I know there are no 21" which support 1680X1050. Mine is 22" Liberty.

It's good just looks compressed a bit, distorted.

There currently are (and have been) 20",21", 21.6", 22" and 24" LCDs that support 1680x1050 resolution.

Is that the smaller the size, the bigger characters appear under the same resolution?

1280x800. Happens because of my poor 6400 laptop.

Its a Samsung 225BW, and yes it is actually 22". Make sure you set the aspect ratio in the game's options to 16:10.

And I almost bought a 19" wide LCD (LG 1942T), but took a 19" square LCD instead (Samsung 943NX, and no, it is NOT for gaming) since I can't make out the difference between the previous 17" CRT (Dell, on the verge of dying) and the 19", at least in terms of real estate space. Some people were actually puzzled as to why 21.6" LCDs (saw a Samsung unit) exist, they are just .4" from 22"!

 

Widescreen would have worth it if you are talking about those above 19", at least for me.

mine's a 17" (sorta) wide which looks great using the 16:10
