Didn't you say you ripped the long wings off some F-111G's (former FB-111A's) and put short wings on them when you were in?

You are quite correct, Sir.

 

We did such a thing to 3 aircraft, just a couple of months before the squadron closed.

 

We were assisted in the endeavor by the folks at the depot there at McClellan AFB, CA. "D" model wings on FB's.

 

I think when they pulled the plug on our squadron, and announced the retirement date for the 111's, they ended up shipping the airframes, in various forms

of completion, out to DM. Only one was flight tested, IIRC, and it was sitting on our ramp my last day on active duty.

 

I went and climber all over it for nostalgia purposes.

 

 

Seeing your fine example, especially with the 431st patch, really takes me back.

 

As to the tail numbers, I haven't a clue, as I barely got to know them...

Yes these things are about 90% rebuilt, to include the correct inakes ie triple plow 2 or 3.

and some other birds.. dman where can I find the free time to fly them all.. realy need a clone...
