That young fellow should immediately be sent back to Blighty on indefinite leave, lest he fall and demoralise the Nation. Meaning, I want to see what that dossier looks like when the new medals come in the next release... so don't get him killed!

 

 

I'll admit that I too would like to see what is done with the Medals. I for 1 have 24 confirmed aerial victories out of 43 claims, flown over 15 missions and have been awarded 4 Medal of Honor's. LOL By the way, I do have my setting on "easy peasy" while I try out this Sim to see as much as I can before I turn it up a bit

 

I also noticed that the Ranking needs to be fixed as well. Like with Macklroy, it shows he enlisted as an Lt. but his rank is Sergeant. Seems a bit confusing. I'm not sure if I should salute him or just pat him on the back.

Let's keep this thread, "Screen Shots," on screen shots with comments on them and not stray off on other topics. I look forward every morning to seeing what players come up with and the situations that developed when the shots were taken, and some of these are really amazing. Would also love to see more videos by some of you movie experts!

Here's on of my favorite skins, Esc N77's Maurice Boyau.

"Pursuit pilot of audacious bravery. Three times cited in orders, and has to his credit an aircraft and a balloon. On 5 June [1917] he destroyed another balloon. Forced to land in enemy territory, he repaired his plane and flew back over the lines at 200 meters altitude, under fire of enemy machine guns." Médaille Militaire citation

 

"Pilot of remarkable bravery whose marvelous physical qualities are put to use by his most arduous spirit and fights at great heights. Magnificent officer with an admirable spirit of self-sacrifice, facing each day with the same smiling desire for new exploits, surpassing then succeeding. He excels in all branches of aviation; reconnaissance, photography in single-seaters, bombardments at low altitudes, attacks on ground troops, and is classed among the best pursuit pilots. He has reported twenty-seven victories, the last twelve in less than one month. Has downed sixteen balloons and eleven planes. Has the Médaille Militaire and Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur for feats of war. Eleven citations." Légion d'Honneur citation

 

Boyau ended up with 35 victories, 14 planes and 21 balloons before he was killed in action in 1918 at age 30 while flying a Spad 13. Defending German, Georg von Hantelmann received credit.

Does any one know the signifance of the serpent on Boyau's scout?

Just had a crazy fight! A Bristol shot up my engine. I was now diving with standing propellor,

when another Brisfit came along; I followed his curve and I plastered him so hard, he went down!

Just had a weird dogfighting against a British flight of 5 Nieuport 17 Lewis, in nasty rain amongst huge towering grey clouds.

Ritter von Tutschek, Prinz Friedrich Karl von Preussen and the rest of flight one had just gone much lower to avoid the clouds.

I remained higher up with my two wings Klemm and Zimmermann. Then out of the grey came the light grey Nupes - I hadn't

seen them! I ordered my wings to attack the highest flyer, and then the Tango began.

Somehow I managed to keep my six clear, advise my wings, and fight three Nupes. Each got some hot rounds first, and they

soon lost their agility. Now I could finish off the first. A burning craft came down further away. Let it be one of them!

And so it was - my wings where doing great up there. Attack the other now!

Two minutes after the first Nupe, a second one followed her into the dirt. But the last one was a real turn devil! Closer and

closer we came towards the deck, now fighting at treetop level. This was my finest ever dogfight so far - my god, did we

turn and twist, jump and chase! I got hit! Engine rattled, and the rudder didn't react well no more. Dammit!

But at the right moment, two Albatros came down to help me - the boys had sent their second one down! Now the Nieuport

had to break away from me, and I got my chances. Two, three terrible bursts - he couldn't hold her up now, and went into

the trees like a fast sinking boat. Could have been my fate today!

I had to cross through nasty ground fire, before I could land at the nearest field at Lagnicourt. Safe! And both wingmen alive

and well - what a fight!

We did not only win - I lost none of my men. Something I'm really proud of.

we just arrived the frontlines for a patrol between arras and douai. as my flight reached the waypoint i turned south and checked where flight 1 was. they were still above me. you can see the 3 specks above the sun. imagine my surprise when i suddenly saw some movement in the flight 1 formation. a second or two later i knew why...

Yes, always watch the sun! I have (in Phase 2) once been attacked by a single SPAD VII

coming out of the sun. When I recognised it, it was huge already; I just managed to push

the stick hard forward, when he opened fire. Udet lost his comrade Putz that way.

Hi all. Just had an encounter with a group of Albatross DIIIs that jumped our flight enroute to target. One of the enemy pilots had an all black plane with a red 'shooting star' it appeared painted on the side. I've been trying to keep a record of all the aces I encounter. Along with the date and result of the engagement. Anyone happen to know who this man was that I caught trying to sneak up on my wingmates?

the cfs i purchased to play phase 2 and bhah is a german version and has therefore a german exe. it's not much left, though. tac is german as you can see, "z" (g-force is lastenvielfaches, fatigue is erschöpfung...) is german and some phrases on the map.

 

when i start a mission, pol is yelling "zündung an, anwerfen!" .

no, just kidding. only the above. pol's commands i replaced some month ago with some sad, movielike music, to get the feeling during load that as soon i enter the seat and get airborne something tragic might happen. good for immersion.

Due to the nature of orthographic film, there is some debate too as to whether the fuselage was in fact purple rather than black and also what the colours of the comet actually were. Black is the general consensus for the fuselage, but it might be a good skinning project to explore the alternative

 

von Bertrab was shot down by Mick Mannock, btw. Made a PoW, died in 1922.

1. I had written "von Bertrag" - sorry, it has to be "von Bertrab".

 

2. According to Greg Wyngard from The Aerodrome, Mannock gave this description:

 

"...on 12 August 1917, Mannock actually DID bring down von Bertrab while the latter was on a

balloon strafe, von Bertrab being taken prisoner. Von Bertrab was by this time flying an Albatros D.V

( I believe), and its fuselage and wings were brought to 40 Squadron for display; the wreckage was

given the number G60.

Mannock had a close-up look at the aircraft and wrote: "His machine - a beauty (*), just issued (June I/17)

with a 220 h.p. Mercedes engine (sic), all black with crosses picked out in white lines- turned over on

landing and was damnaged."

How I was longing for some summer! So here are some shots from my first flight with Jasta 30,

Phalempin, August 1917. Returning fro a patrol, with only 9 % petrol left, I spotted two RE8,

about to bomb our or La Petrie airfield. When I had just climbed up to them, my engine went out.

But it's only over, when it's over.

I fired all my rounds into one of them, and he went down burning, whilst I followed him down.

I feels good to know there is a field at hand - you'll get a decent meal.

Meanwhile I seem to have become the Albatros-glider specialist.

 

Oh, and - yes: I have made another new skin, as I had none for an Albatros DIII OAW.

I had an outstanding dual this early AM with Adolph Tutschek of Jasta 12. Autumn of 1917, flying my Camel, and I met the Rittermeister in his Alb DV. A very intense and protracted aerial ballet ensued that ended when I managed to put a burst into his lower starboard wing which then folded at the root. My honourable foe crashed into a copse of trees. I managed this screenshot as we were each attempting to get the other to stall out in a long, climbing loop, (Adolph stalled first, but only just).

 

 

 

 

 

I love this sim.

Under normal circumstances I'd agree with you Olham, but that early in the morning before my second cup of coffee he had more than a fair chance of handing my arse to me.

I know what you mean, Lou. We Ostfriesen are tea addicts - without some cups of a strong redbrown brew,
