Most Difficult Campaign You've Done

Recommended Posts

I was working on a lengthy post when my comp had a problem so i'll add more detail later.

For me it is ODS flying the RF4C. Hands down the most consistently white knuckle experience i've ever had in either WOV or WOE.

Recently had 22 SAMs fired at me within 25 miles of the target.

This campaign is a major challenge.

Have flown the A-4KU in single missions - dont even get chaff/flares with that - still they didnt manage to get me yet - may stick it in the campaign at some point and see if I can get me some MiG-29s!!

Need to adjust all my tactics again for this time period!! - the MiGs are a massive threat but luckily there are a lot of allied planes about in the campaigns so best to avoid them if your on a strike.

ODS with Iraqui Air force.

I haven't survived -ie landed my plane- in any try, and always been killed after 2-3 missions.

Second one would be OTC, in a A2G role. AAA so thick one can walk on it...

The Soviet Dawn campaign for WoV. I modified it to use the MiG-31M and its weapons during Rolling Thunder. Let me just say, I got out turned by a Phantom and my wingman a B-57. I fly with everything on hard except blackouts and landing, which are on normal. Its not easy with afterburner fuel consumption to get out of hairy situations. I usually make one high speed pass with my Atolls and gun on the primary target flight of planes after I fire my 6 R-33s at long range. Its pretty hard because that plane performs best up high, but the Phantoms and the sparrows are up there. Flying low is a hazard though, the Foxhound has bad stall characteristics. My wingmen do not fire the R-33s, or even the R-27s for some stupid reason. I do love the big radar though. 200 miles search range.

"Alone, Unarmed and Unafraid" gets a bit changed over Iraq.

More like "I'm all by my damn self and am sorta nervous whenever i get anywhere near enemy Fighters and SAM range".

Timing is everything flying Recce birds. Be either too early or too late on your route and you'll really have a pulse racing experience. Even if things are going right it can be hairy. Going up to K2 i had a pair of Mig-21s track me for 68 miles. All the way to the IP i was hearing the RHAW beeping and it only stopped when i went down for the photo run. They couldn't keep up as i went seriously supersonic so went after someone else.

If the Iraqis flew in real life like they do in the sim, it would have been a totally different war. That K2 mission was a bloody massacre. F-111s, F-15s, F-18s and whatever else going down in numbers and here i am venturing out into this without even a slingshot.

Wouldn't give up flying these missions for a million bucks

Any as a North Vietnamese pilot (Charlie's Aces). In MiG-17 You simply can't catch those damned Thuds (and you can't maneouver at all at high speed). They destroy their targets and you lose the campaign....

In Linebaker you can't stop the B-52 with your MiG-21. They avoid all your missiles ant ate your cannon shells without damage. Again, they destroy all targets and you lose.

Flying North Vietnamese is very challenging. You are in hugue number (and tech) disadvantage. Phantoms and Crusaders destroy all friendly units and pilots in a few missions and soon you are flying alone against all enemy power.

For my surprise, the best average plane is the MiG-19 (better than the 21 for me), but you can't fly it in early campaigns.

Difficult or not, I'm addict to fly as a Red pilot in nearly all available campaign!!! (and yes, I fly as Blue also)

To me its hard the campaign with the usmc harrier's in ODS, a2g missions against hardpoints, with a lot of AAA and SAM's ready to shoot down me....

The RF4 campaign its hard too.
