MiG-23F Fishtail-B

MiG-23F Fishtail-B Beta

*****************

----------------------------------------------------------

I.

This is a "What if" plane. It was not real, but could have been it if the E-8 development line would not have been canceled in 1962.

Imagine: A lot of MiG ingenieurs did not agree with Mikoyans decision to stop the E-8 program. They made a proposal to use proven elements of the E-8 and the MiG-21PF to start a new project called E-9. Mikoyan agreed and intended to use the E-9 as gap filler till his favored project E-11, the later swing wing MiG-23 Flogger, was ready. In autumn 1963 the E-9 was ready for flight tests. It was a combination of MiG-21PF engine, wings and avionics with a new fuselage, tail and canards. The E-9 was accepted by the soviet air force in spring 1964 and entered the production line in summer 1964 as MiG-23F.

It is equipped in the fashion of that time: No gun, only AAM, unguided rockets and bombs. RP-21 radar und R-11 engine.

Known issues. It is still a beta. I know that the flight gear movement is not perfect. I know, that the skin is only a test shot, quick and dirty. etc.

I will try to make it better as fast as possible.

Interesting concept - I named it simply MiG E-9F, and changed years of use 1964-1972(until real 23 showed up though), weapons set to AA only - somehow bombs don't look right on "prototype" kind of plane.

Thanx for this - keep up with excellent work :yes:

Starfighter, thanks for finding this bug.

Here a quick fix for it.

Open the data file. Look for the weapon entries and you find for each weaponpoint an line like below

AttachmentPosition=.....x.....,.....x.....,-0.44

Change the -0.44 into -0.46

and save it.

Should be better now.

Who really neat stuff. I've been planning on MiG-21 to provide backup to heavier PVO interceptors, like Bf-109s supported the more dedicated Fw-190 bomber destroyers.

Were the E-9 canards to be control surfaces? I read the E-8 when supersonic had fixed canards, but they flopped around freely below Mach 1.

Here's something if you have not seen it yet: Rudder reversed.

ReverseModelOrientation=TRUE

AwSim addition thanks!!!
