Lock On Patch 1.01

Recommended Posts

This is the first patch for Lock On: Modern Air Combat and is designed to

product. This patch is however not designed to fix all identified bugs. We

plan to provide additional patch(es) that will address problems not fixed in

this first patch.

training missions will not play back correctly now. If you wish to play all

the training missions, we suggest that you only apply the patch after doing so.

A training mission correction patch is planned.

--- Play Notes ---

Missile ranges. Players should understand that due to a variety of factors,

actual missile ranges can be far less than maximum ranges stated in various

media. Two large factors include:

1- Target aspect. If the target is flying towards you, your acceptable

launch range will be far greater than a target flying away from your or

perpendicular to you. When the target is flying towards you, the target is

thus flying to the missile and greatly increasing the range at which the shot

can first be taken. If however the target turns away after the shot is taken,

the missile may not have the energy to reach the target. This is particularly

true when taking a shot at long range.

2- Altitude. The altitude of you and the target can be a significant

factor in range. At lower altitudes, the air is much thicker and induces a

great amount of drag on the missile. After a few seconds missile of motor burn

at launch, most air-to-air missiles coast the remaining distance to reach the

target. If flying through the thick air of lower altitudes, the range at which

the missile can reach is far shorter then when launched at high altitude. The

difference between a shot taken at 5,000 feet and 30,000 feet is dramatic.

ECM effect. If flying the F-15C and trying to acquire a target on radar, this

will be difficult if the target is employing Electronic Counter Measures (ECM).

Please note that some aircraft and have internal jammers and not just ECM

pods. If the target is employing ECM, you will likely not attain a radar track

on the target until under 10 nm. The Russian ECM systems are very effective.

To combat this, the F-15C can take advantage of the Home On Jam (HOJ) launch

mode. This can be used with both the AIM-7 and AIM-120. Simply lock the TDC

cursor on the jamming strobe on the VSD to lock. Once fired, the missile will

automatically home in on the target as long as the ECM is active. This can be

very effective.

The 1.01 patch seems to have been leaked a bit in advance. It wasn't supposed to be released until later this evening but the cat is now out of the bag...We are currently trying to identify the source of the cd-detect bug and will provide a solution ASAP. In the meantime I strongly suggest you don ot install it or, if you must, make sure to make a back-up.I'll keep you posted on further developments

sorry i posted the link befoee i did not know that it was leaked

don't install it

sorry again

np... Thunak says its official though it wasn't released through proper channels. I was in doubt of wether to post this as a news item but since it is as Thunak says "out of the bag" there is really no reason not to.

I have posted it as a news item along with Thunaks warning and we will update it with a fix for the "cd-detect" bug as soon as we get it ourselves

I grabbed it as soon as I heard about it from Gamershell...before I heard of any "warnings" of a leak.

It works great for me!!! And I'm a 98SE guy who couldn't fly it at all before. :D

OK, time to start keeping track of the order of the patches. You know how that goes! "1.95a has been replaced with 1.95c. 1.95b is obsolete and is no longer supported. 1.95c may only be installed over 1.94k. All other versions of 1.94 are obsolete and no longer supported." :D

Of course those with infinite patience can simply wait for the eventual "Mother of All Patches".

I get a kick out of this thing we saw with Flanker, IL2 and now LOMAC. As soon as the first patch hits, the training missions don't work anymore. Either have to train up good before the patch or have two installs of the sim. No big thing, just kind of humorous. Where there's a will, there's a way. "Failure is not an option." :D

the copy protection prevents you from having nero installed (doh) or rather nero disk image emulator. you cant have either daemon tools or alcohol installed. till i found out about nero i had the same problem.

this is not dynamic eagle's fault i think - it has to be the distributors who chose the wrong copy protection scheme.

so - remove nero, alcohol and d-tools (you can probably add nero w/o image emulation) and it should work.

Ehhmmm.. I have both Nero and Deamon tools installed as i use them for work purposes and i managed to get the patch and game to work - albeit after much frustration.

It seems that the most common reason that you get the "insert correct cd" bug is when you accidentaly installed the wrong patch. Ie. UK patch on english game or vice versa. This problem was confounded by Thunak accidentally switching the links for the patches which caused a lot of people to DL and install the wrong patch.

Quoting Thunak:

** There are two versions of the patch: one for the US and one for the UK. If you are unsure which version you have, please check the Lock On logo displayed in-game: red and blue for US, silver for UK **

After reinstalling and grabbing the correct patch i got it to work and my bloodpressure is now falling again and approaching 4 digit numbers ;)
