A Revisit to 1.32 Superpatch.

In response to the queries re our ( mainly Prop- Wasche's ) DM, and whether one can return to 1.32 DM after using our DM, I decided to check this out.

So, on my lesser PC, I loaded OFF from clean, then 1.32 and then 1.32d mini patch.

Looking at the first flight, I thought, - this terrain is better than the one I saw on the main computer when i first installed 1.32, and, which, as you may know, I discarded and returned to 1.30. Hmmmm.

 

Anyway, I changed the DMs and flew a QC without joystick. I looked at the xdp files and our ones were in there. Then I went back to 1.32d by replacing the "aircraft" file which I had copied and saved elsewhere, and sure enough, the sim flew and the 1.32d xdp files were back.

So, it seems, an interchange can be made, if wanted.

 

But- back to my seeing 1.32d and quite liking the terrain, which, before, I couldn't live with. ( trees and sky, it was ).

 

Back to the main gaming PC - the one with the joystick :biggrin: -

 

I uninstalled OFF, deleting all remaining OFF files.

I re-installed clean from the disc, checked it ran, then loaded the 1.32 and then 1.32d.

A QC flight looked good on the monitor-

Flew again on the projector, and this time tweaked the projector's colour balance till I got a good sky.

The trees seem fine, and a couple of dogfights later against the DR1 ( I reckoned I could live with its

low level "quirks" ), I am now going to keep it.

 

It hadn't taken me long, the first time I tried 1.32, to decide against it, because the thing which had hit me straight away was the trees in the terrain. I couldn't live with them, so I didn't go too much further.

But the next install had them looking different?

 

I can only conclude that it was the clean re -install which made the diff on my computer/projector setup.

Before, I had patched an existing install. So it maybe, on some computers, such a change in install

procedure can make a difference.

Who knows for certain.?

What I do know for sure is that the way I shall install in future is Clean Re-install and then latest patch, if that is possible.

Glad you are "back with the program." :lol: I'm not sure that your clean install had any effect on the trees; I believe Winder mentioned in one of the mini-patches that the terrain in the super-patch had a few oddities that were corrected in a later hot-fix. Maybe that cured your tree problem. I'd hate to lose you from 1.32 because of a "failing to see the forest for the trees!" :wink:

 

I'm getting some good reports about our damage mod. Be sure to check out the HPWFB release thread for information about using a 3rd party program called JSGME (Jones-Soft Generic Mod Enabler) to quickly and easily handle all kinds of mods to BHaH--including damage mods. I'm going to recommend that everyone use this utility to handle DM changes. This should help end any aircraft mismatch problems in MP too.

 

Because of the changes to how OBD handles patches and the damage model, I have been too busy trying to find easier work-arounds to backing up and restoring files for me to fly very much, so I am interested in your comments re the DM. Hopefully, using JSGME will enable me to spend more time flying, comparing DMs, and possibly tweaking! Cheers!

I just went through the same process. Totally new install, with just the super patch and mini patch D, and I have to say that things are much cleaner and crisp. I had to do a double take when I first took off from the field as things looked so good...they always looked good, but it was...better.

 

Just thought I'd add my experience, as *maybe* some arent getting the new goodies with piling patch over patch over patch....and over patch :no:

 

Herr Prop--

Just a quick noob question about your DM. Does this just change the graphics of the damage, or does it make it tougher to put opponents down, or ?

Oh, forgot about that one though I have it on my website. The JSGME is very useful. It can be downloaded also via Wings Of Honor Downloads under the section 'Utilities'.

Aha! I see- Yes, that might well be the reason. In any event, i don't think a fresh install did it any harm :wink:

On this one, PW, I've been reading just a little about this mod enabler. I don't know much about it at all, but a thought has occurred to me. How does it ensure that the bdp files are deleted after every DM change. ? As you know, this is an essential of changing the DMs, and if they are not deleted after a change of DM, it may be a while before the player realizes the DM change isn't effective ?

 

I think we should emphasize ( you may have done that already ) that after each change the player should run your deletebdp bat file from within CFSWW1 Over Flanders Field folder?

Prop- On your tip on the Jones-Soft Generic Mod Enabler is great. It's simple to instal and use.

Already ahead of you, FB. :wink: I put instructions in version 1.1 of the DM to do just that. In fact, I'm thinking about creating an "OFF DM Utility Pack" which will be composed of three utilities: 1) the deletebdps.bat, 2) a utility to backup xdp files from your aircraft folder, and 3) a utility to restore xdp files to the aircraft folder.

 

I am pleased about the good reports re the DM. I have to say to the chaps that you have done most of the work involved, and my grip on in being "our" DM is a little tenuous.

We'll have none of that famed British modesty here, FB! Couldn't have done it without your help and input! :good:
