Need your help for Afghanistan Campaign

Hi folks. I tried to make a campaign for my Afghanistan terrain. But i failed. Always if i try to start the campaign i get CTD.

Below the lines of the campaign_data.ini file. Perhaps someone of you can find the mistake and can tell me what i have made wrong.

about planes: only ~70 BN was on service in VVVs i newer heard about they were used there.

 

only one type 27's used ina afganistan was MiG-27D,M (1988, 129,134-th APIB)

 

ML,MLD & UB were used for strike & CAS.

 

Su-17M3,M4 - right choice! 274-th APIB in 1987-88, su-22 for Afganistan AF (355-th AP)

 

su-24 also used (since 1984)149-th,143-th BAP

 

Mig-21bis, PFM,R in early years..

 

Yak-28P (39-th ORAP)

 

Tu-16 251-th GV TBAP (1984-88)

Just a few suggestions:-

 

1. What are the alignments of "SOVIET" and "Afghanistan" in your NATIONS.INI? You may want to match the alignments under your [FORCE001] and [FORCE002] entries.

 

2. Double check spellings of BaseArea= flags. That sort of error was my most common source of CTD in campaign building - you set an air or ground unit to an airbase/targetarea/strategic node which does not exist in the targets.ini (or, for nodes, defined in the campaign_data.ini.

 

3. I see you have BaseArea=Bagram under [FORCE001] but your strategic nodes have it defined as [strategicNode001] BaseArea=Bagram Airbase. Change the strategic node to BaseArea=Bagram. The campaign engine seems to treat airfields differently from non-airfield target areas, and I have found it is better NOT to use airfield targetareas as strategic nodes.

 

4. Maybe the engine is choking because there are no afghan air units. I appreciate this is historically correct, but maybe the game engine needs an enemy air force?

 

5. Frontline. I have found this the most troublesome part of campaign building. I seem to remember TK posting over on the TW boards that the frontline needs to extend all the way from one side of the map to the other (either horizontally or vertically). I have also found that the more points there are on the frontline, the better the game seems to cope.

Hmmm. . .

 

One more thing, try changing the NormalMissionRateDeviation= and OffensiveMissionRateDeviation= values to 0. I think these should be set to a number smaller than the number you have entered in the NormalMissionRate= and OffensiveMissionRate= flags. Otherwise, you could end up with a NormalMissionRate or OffensiveMissionRate of 0, or even less than 0 (a negative value) and that might cause the game to choke.

With the help of Baltika and Canadair i was able to find my mistake. The campaign is ready now and at the moment i'm testing it.

I hope that i can release the campaign in the next time and (hopefully) then i will go back to improve my Afghanistan terrain.

The campaign is released. Now i will move to improve Afghanistan terrain. The Kandahar region is done so far. Now will follow Masar i Sharif area.

I hope till Xmas it will be finished.

I wish TE was alot more user friendly, and a bit more advanced (3D viewing, etc) or else I'd have targetted up the whole country (well as much as possible until now). Too bad you can't have a target in each village or so on, or set it up to put one in each village... this place is so dynamic that you can only of course do so much..

Any news on the updates? I've got F-4s, F-14s (ha-ha) and F-5s loaded into my modded install, with nations.ini, alignments, and the aircraftxx_data.ini set up for Iran. Instant action, and missions work. I have NOT done a campaign yet but would very much like to. Especially now with the news coming from Iran. Got nukes working too (muwahahaha!) Soviets set to enemy too so that may help. Would love to test something if you have it.

To set the Soviets to Enemy would be senseless. It would mean that the Soviets fight side by side with the Taliban.

I didn't mean that you or any of us SHOULD set Soviets to enemy. Only that I did that to insure an air presense in Instantaction and it worked. I'll check for your campaign upload so no worries. F-5s showed good use of the "insignia" decal routine. I hope this works for Iranian roundels.

If you can wait a little bit i will bring a small update of Afghanistan terrain in the next days. It now also covers the Kandahar area.

I would have done it already at X-Mas, but my son had taken the control of my computer for a while, so the release will be next year.

Thanks for the campaign link allen... a little tweaking and it can be modernized. Matter of fact I switched the Iranian to enemy, so now you're doing strikes from Iraq into Iran. :good:

Excellent! I have been playing with GemanyCE .tod files and they work only about 50% of the time. The Tree/grass breakdown doesn't always work right for the Afghan tiles. Great to know about the other resources. I am on vacation next week so I will try to download things over the weekend. I'm working on a sutable border to border front and strategic targets so the single missions will work. But campaign is the real goal. Looking forward to it!

It's looking really nice. I have only one issue that may just stem from my lack of a full WOI install. Everything was fine until I deleted what I thought a didn't need in ISSEA2 files. At least on the old terrain. Not smart. I am almost back to complete but I am still missing some tiles in the new Kandahar region. Am I missing these or is something missing in the terrain? Check out my screenie. I even have a couple of upgraded Israel tiles in there for good measure. It's ISSEA2FARM...something... that I think is missing. I have all of them as far as I can tell.
