TrackIr is fantastic!

Recommended Posts

Thanks to a particularly generous OFFer I have managed to get a TrackIR!

So much more emersive!... my kills may go down for a while though, much harder than using the padlock in my opinion... I have to keep track of enemy planes manually now!

This is something I've been a bit curious about. Apparently you turn you head and your view changes, but obviously not proportionally or your monitor would be out of site when you check your "six", right? It seems like a good idea, but the devil's in the details, right?

So what's the deal, I'd like to get away from the hat button myself.

When you turn your head to look at, let's say, the edge of the monitor, your onscreen view is your six (i.e., you only have to rotate your head about 15 degrees to be looking behind). If you move your head closer to the edge of the screen, and look down, you can actually look over the side of the plane. Or you can look ahead to see around the cowling when taking off. You have 6 degrees of freedom with OFF, so it's very much like your normal view. Check out this demo...

I can't imaging now how I ever flew BHaH without TrackIR. I have now gone back to some of my older sims (e.g.;, RB3D, IL2, EECH, F4AF, LOMAC) and can't believe the diffrerence in my ability to fly and stay alive.

Gulp! Tommy wants!

Maybe I could actually nail a carrier landing if I could just see around the cowl like IRL.

Thanks! (wanders off humming "All I want for Christmas...")

Stiffy, it takes a while, until you know how to fly the kite for a better view.

Meanwhile, I can let a Nieuport pass under me, and steer the plane so, that I

find her coming out the other side, with no problem.

Definitely more realistic.

.

Yuppers, TrackIR puts flying this sim into a whole new realm. I can't imagine how I flew without it. That and the rudder pedals are the two peripherals you really need to fully appreciate OFF, IMHO.

Cheers!

Track IR is amazing, now you need to get yourself another two monitors and Eyefinity or SoftTH and come to the three screen party!

I am running three 20"s at a total resolution of 4800x1200 with a XFX 5870 and all the settings are on 4, except for aircraft on 5 and I am getting 40fps on average!

What? No dome projection?

Seriously, powering a rig like that must take quite a box. I'm still nursing my Athlon 3200 XP with a couple of ATI 133 drives in a RAID 0 and 2 GB of low latency RAM, and a pretty decent AGP 8x graphics card.

SWMBO asked me if I needed a new computer, but I think I'd really be pushing it (because of course I'd want to get the Saitek pro hardware along with the TrackIR), especially since I told her about a year and a half ago that she was next on the new computer list... me and my big mouth...!
