themightysrc 5 Posted December 22, 2009 My vote was (effectively) for a Pup campaign, late 1916. They're nice to fly without any particular vices, which I think would be a excellent entree for anyone seeking to try MP for the first time, particularly since it would mean facing slowly improving Hun forces. Anyone else have a view on this?
Red-Dog 3 Posted December 23, 2009 Ive gone for a 2 seater with fighter escort in 1916, we could have the fighter jocks earning their keep protecting the jewels? And lets see how much you trust each other when your in the back seat........
von Baur 54 Posted December 23, 2009 I voted for an Allied campaign because OFF currently offers three Entente nationalities (British, French, USA) with only one option on the Central side (German). This makes true fairness, which is almost always a matter of opinion anyway, very difficult. While a case can be made that fair means alternating between Central and Entente, an equally legitimate one can be made for rotating through the various nationalities. An added benefit to taking the latter approach is that there are many more aircraft types on the Entente side than the Central, so strict alternation would have us on the second or third trip through Albs, Halbs and Fokkers while the guy who just adores the Bristol Scout (there's no accounting for taste ) is still waiting for his favorite ride. As far as type, I've no preference. While I spend most of my time in single-seaters, I find a good bombing run (or torpedo attack with Stump's Shorts) just as challenging and gratifying. Whatever the floats the most boats is ok by me.
Vasco 3 Posted December 23, 2009 (edited) OK guys, I've been setting up campaigns and testing them for viability. In order to meet all the top preferences listed above (and taking into consideration that the French don't have a single MP usable 2-seater available during the period - NOTE to ODB: Fix those bloody invisible aircraft!), it looks like you're either going to be flying Pups, DH2s or FE2Bs for the British. The FE2B will automatically give you that 2-seater element, but we're going to need high attendance to make sure we can field enough full crews (unless you want to pray that Otto can shoot straight). Which would you like? Vasco Edited December 23, 2009 by Vasco
Red-Dog 3 Posted December 23, 2009 (edited) Hi Vasco, Hope you didn't mind the poll? just that you didn't get much respons when you asked us sunday. Anyway i like the idea of may be 4 FE2's and the rest PUP's.If every one who voted so far enlists that would make 8 bomber crew and 6 fighters. stumpjumper 3 Posted December 23, 2009 GIVE EMA COUPLE OF DAYS TO CHECK SOME THINGS SEE WHAT I CAN TWECK FOR MP USE, HECK ILLEVEN GET INTO THE COCKPIT ON THE SALMASON IF NEED BE
VonGuber 2 Posted December 23, 2009 DH2s...that would sort us out. They can be a lot of fun early on, but very hard after the Albatross... Pups are a lot of fun to fly too, but what about Nieuports? Vasco 3 Posted December 23, 2009 Red-Dog, Thanks for taking the initiative. With regard to combining FE2Bs and Pups, they'd have to be in different squadrons to make it historically accurate (which makes mission design more complex and splits the participants). von Gruber, You could make my life easier if you could find a British squadron that used Nieuport 11s during 1916. The reason I didn't look to use that aircraft is the fact it carries bugger-all ammunition so kills will be very limited. Stumpjumper, 1916's a bit too early for the Salmsons. Also, when we start the new campaign can you only include extra aircraft we're likely to use in missions please? We've had a number of false starts recently due to aircraft mismatches (particularly the AEG) and I'd like to keep the potential for start time delays to a minimum. stumpjumper 3 Posted December 23, 2009 vasco what about the strutters (2 seaters can we use them or do you want to)
Vasco 3 Posted December 23, 2009 (edited) vasco what about the strutters (2 seaters can we use them or do you want to) Stump, I thought both variants of the 1 1/2 Strutters were still borked in MP (Dispite Winder's statement that it's just the B1). Why, do you know different or have you got a fix for them? Vasco Edited December 23, 2009 by Vasco
Burning Beard 14 Posted December 23, 2009 I kind of like the idea of the DH2s or the N11's, but then again I have been accused of pounding my head against the wall just for the fun of it... Beard
Vasco 3 Posted December 23, 2009 I kind of like the idea of the DH2s or the N11's, but then again I have been accused of pounding my head against the wall just for the fun of it... Beard I like the idea of 24 Sqn RFC under Lanoe Hawker myself - Nieuports handle beautifully but have the least amount of ammo, FE2Bs require full crews to operate successfully, Pups are too forgiving (and occur later in 1916 which means we'll be fighting in s**t weather - again), but DH2s have terrible rearwards visibility, are temperamental in combat and difficult to fly well .............. They get my vote too :nyam: Vasco
VonGuber 2 Posted December 24, 2009 <snip> von Gruber, You could make my life easier if you could find a British squadron that used Nieuport 11s during 1916. The reason I didn't look to use that aircraft is the fact it carries bugger-all ammunition so kills will be very limited. <snip> I'll go one better and find a few, in hopes that someone will tell me how much "bugger-all" really is...besides, I'm not sleeping anyway. At first glance, I find the following, and not just 11 models: RFC-1 from 23 June, flying N16 No. 60 RFC from 18 Aug. flying N17 1 RNAS from 1 March flying N11 1 Sqd. 4 Wing RNAS (RNAS-6 in menu) from 23 June flying N11 and Detachment 4 RNAS (RNAS-8 in menu) from 25 Oct. flying N17 October is a bit late, probably...that would mean that we'd get "bugger-all" for missions? (Am I getting the hang of it?? Is that a naval term or something?? ) But, March through June should give plenty of good weather, so there are options. If it positively had to be British, I'd think 1 or 60 might be workable? Of course, there are always the French. I should think they'd be full of Nupes in '16. Cheers, and Merry Christmas Von Güber (mit ümlaut,)
