Installing mods in Version 2 of series

Recommended Posts

I'm certain this has been addressed before somewhere so please forgive the question. I'm not new to the thirdwire series or installing mods but I am so when it comes to the newer version 2 of the series. I searched the knowledge base but got only as far as seeing something about a mod folder but not understanding how to use it. I bought Wings Over Israel 2 today.

Could someone point me to or walk me through the process please? Can we use the Widesky mod for version 2 Strike Fighters as the example? That's the first thing I tried installing. I placed everything in the flight folder but the mod did not take affect.

I'd also like to try the HDR mod but it says to put the files in the mod/flight folder. I don't have a mod folder. I redirected the options.ini mod listing to be in the same place as my WOV2 install but I see no mod folder. Do I create it myself?

I'm familiar with the older versions and modding and using the cat extractor but I'm lost here with the new versions. Thanks for any pointers.

Check your Username/Saved Games/Thirdwire/Strike Fighters 2 Israel is where the mod folder resides :good: Then you just add something, like the widesky mod to the Flight folder. If it doesn't exist just create the folder and then drop the mod in there. The game will read it and so forth. It's just alot of the old structure thrown in there so you don't have to worry about affecting files.

The HDR mod won't work with the new advanced shaders unless you disable the advanced shaders and force DX9 in your options.ini

PS. IMHO the new advanced shaders are better than my HDR mod.

Thanks so much everyone for the help and info. I have a problem though as I don't have a mod folder. When I go to the directory C:\Users\Coot\Saved Games\ThirdWire\Strike Fighters 2 I don't have a mod folder present. I have Controls, Missions, Objects, Pilot Data, Screen Shots, and a Options ini.

Do I need to reinstall or need some patch? Thanks again.

There is no "mod folder" as named. What we mean by a mod folder, is the entire Thirdwire folder structure under My Documents (WinXP), or under Saved Games (Vista/Win 7).

You can create the necessary folders inside of the "mod" folder, emulating the traditional first-generation folder structure of any ThirdWire title, and drop your add-ons into them.

out of curiosity i tried in SF2 febr. your HDR with the force dx9, antialiasing 1, etc options.ini settings (usafmtl posted the lines somewhere in here) and it would crash everytime upon loading the flight. The text was there on the main screen , left upper corner. ATI radeon 5850.

btw, i would expect HDR to give an effect similar to lets say HDR in Farcry / Crysis, you know when facing a light source how kind of soft-blurring-whiting-out things get. What does it actually do in SF? either TK shaders or your DX9 mod :)

I tweaked the shadowing and lighting in the enbseries to have more "eyecandy" and it actually boost frame rates.
