Yeah it was in one of our local free papers this morning... and they just have a snapshot of the place... If I ever get time to ride across the US this is on my list of places to visit...

It is a sorrowful sight though seeing all those jets with nothing to do... and that the F-14's all the guts of them shredded to stop the Iranians getting their sticky mitts on them

It's always a sad sight. Especially since there's only one F-14 left out there. At least some of the other planes can give of themselves to keep others flying.

You could build yourself a respectable airforce out of what we throw away. There were like at least 70 F4 Phantoms, quite a few F-111s for the strike role, some A-7s, not to mention the F-14s. I swear I saw some legacy Hornets in there too. I would really love to just hang out there for a while, be like a kid in a candy store!!!!

For scraplovers: go to Google Earth, type "Orenburg Russia" in the searchfunction, go about 24 miles N.E and you find something like AMARCSKI, "Orenburg Monthan"................, somewhat smaller but nonetheless impressive. yikes.gif

Guess they have more places like that in Russia.

Hou doe,

Like I said, there's only one F-14 left there, and it's slated to go to a museum (hopefully).

But I'll take some of those other a/c :clapping:

I read somewhere that AMARG used to give guided tours on a tram, but they stopped after 9/11. I have no idea if they started doing them again, but I would love to take that tour.
