GregSM 0 Posted February 27, 2010 (edited) Ha! I think you're correct! My father and my grandfather before him exercised their darker instincts in places like Vimy Ridge and Dieppe. For my generation, it may be just a hockey rink, but...... (Seriously, despite the stereotype, or appearance of acceptance, I think most Canadians are a little embarrassed by the violence to which Canadian hockey tends to aspire - it's a runaway train of sorts.) Anyway, good luck to the Canadian guys as well to our American friends. It won't be seriously unfriendly on either side. Macklroy 2 Posted February 27, 2010 +1 I fully expected USA would win today but I did not expect that first period. Sunday is going to be fun. First period WAS a stunner. Good on the Fins to not allow another goal in the last 2 periods. (PS - Miller has allowed 0 goals in those 2 games. with about 10minutes to play they pulled him for a rest and put in backup goalminder thomas who allowed the Finns only goal.) Guest British_eh Posted February 27, 2010 When the Canadian Girls won a Silver, the skip said "We didn't lose a Gold, we won a Silver". Unfortunately the same can't be said for hockey. We will live and die on whether or not it is a Gold Medal. We will of course suffer modestly, and in the end,(don't we have the most 4th place finishes of any Country?). If Canada scores 4 goals, we will win. But can we, I don't think so. The edge will be in goal. Luongo is good, and makes timely saves, ( Slovakia with 7 seconds left), but Miller has been great, so that is it in a nutshell. Final Score: USA 3 - Canada 2 :( Cheers, British_eh

von Baur 54 Posted February 28, 2010 (edited) No one's more patriotic than I am but I'm very happy with the way this game went. The people of Canada get the immense national pride of seeing their team win gold in their national sport in their own country. And though the athletes of Team USA are disappointed now they will come to realize that the fact that the team considered best in the world couldn't get it done against them in regulation time (pause to stand at attention for the Canadian National Anthem) is nothing to sneeze at. CONRATULATIONS TEAM CANADA!! ps...you got the score right, British. Just reversed the order. Enjoy it, partner. Edited February 28, 2010 by von Baur

GregSM 0 Posted March 1, 2010 Congrats to the Americans! They played a great game and could very easily have won. Congrats to the Canadians and Finns too, of course. Actually, congrats to all involved. It was a stellar tournament that should further the game itself. To me, it's to pity that there isn't more of the same, NHL games being a bit pedestrian in comparison. Cheers, Greg

Hasse Wind 46 Posted March 1, 2010 What a finale! I was sure the Americans were going to win the match (I even bet some money for them) and when they scored just before the end of the 3rd period, I was absolutely certain the Canadians couldn't turn the tide. But I was wrong. Amazing match. Congratulations to all the medalists. It was worth waiting four years for these Games.

Exactly my feelings too Thought the US squad was playing well as a team and they sure had a hot goalie But Canada came through to Gold when the chips were down Hat's off to them and all the contestants

Bandy 3 Posted March 2, 2010 (edited) ... The people of Canada get the immense national pride of seeing their team win gold in their national sport in their own country. Actually, not to nitpick, but hockey is not Canada's national sport, lacrosse is. Hockey just happens to be what we're most successful at exporting, well, that and all our natural resources...
