Slightly OT: Kawasaki "Hien" in flight

Never saw a "Hien" in flight; I always thought, there weren't any left.

Wow - and here's a Bf 109 E in flight - the "Battle of Britain" one, how it

should have looked in the film (instead of the Hispano-Suiza).

Also never seen one before, flying.

The Hien was often mistaken for a Bf-109 by American pilots in the Pacific who were "certain" that the Japanese were using "superior" German equipment.

The Japanese produced some excellent fighters in WW2. Too bad there aren't any decent modern sims around that let you fly them and their American counterparts of the Pacific War. I had a lot of fun back in the 1990s with Dynamix's Aces of the Pacific.

You don't like Il-2 1946? Don't let the name fool you - the Pacific Fighters expansion added many (not all) of the most important US and Japanese Pacific theatre planes and I believe the modders added a few more.

For some reason I never liked the Pacific Fighters add-on to Il-2. It just didn't feel so immersive as I had hoped, and the campaign play was nowhere near as fun as it was in the ancient Aces of the Pacific. Maybe Pacific Fighters has been modded for improvements though, I haven't played it for a long time.

My favourite Pacific Flight Sim was 1942 - Pacific Air War...god, I loved that game!

Yes Barkhorn. I and my unit were strafed by a couple of Hien in the Markham Valley in New Guinea in 1943 and they were in fact reported in the daily sitrep as Me109s.They went over at about 300ft and were gone in a flash

Try Aces High. It's an MMOFS with a fair selection of Japanese planes, including this here Tony and also the George and Frank. "Curious George" is, or at least was when I was flying, one the most popular planes.

Did you try IL-2's Pacific Fighters (don't know the exact name)? I found that was very good.

I loved the "Frank" - best fighter to tango with Hellcats, Lightnings and Corsairs.

The George is devastating like a Focke-Wulf with cannons - but has very limited amount of ammo.

 

Thanks for the tip, Bullethead - don't know "Aces High" at all yet.
