Strange wingmen

Recommended Posts

Hello all, im running a fully merged install of SFV, E, I Exp1, Exp2 and all capped off with Vietnam groundwar expansion pack, now all has been rosy and fine untill today, in my F-105 campaign rolling thunder i belive, i upgraded aircraft to F-105 66 and all of a sudden my wingmen are now buggering off to attack ground targets before i give any form of a order, we can be 25 miles from target and they will just peel off one by one and attack whatever they feel like, granted this would seem like a great thing, but they are getting nailed in the process and thus making it harder for supplies etc, anybody have any ideas why they are doing this. I had used the F-105 66 upgrade to give a shrike under one wing and a ECM pod under the other wing, like a dolt i deleted my original F-105 66, i did however go into the plane loadout file and rename the offending lines back the M117, will this fix it?

anybody got any tips, in need here. Cheers

I would bet they are attacking the radars that are lighting them up and the associated SAM sites and AAA that have fired on them. If your flight carries shrikes or any other anti radar missile they will engage when the enemy radar lights them up.

Also... after the 2008 patches the AI tends to engage any ground threat that fires on them.

Yes it was something introduced in about 2008 - you sometimes have to forget about your wingmen - because they ain't coming back no matter how many times you order them!

You cant really delete the Stock F-105_66 - if its not in your recycle bin just recreate the 3 folders (compare with the other stock aircraft)and extract the F-105D_66.ini file back into it.

This was the thing I mentioned in the wishlist thread. I've even seen them break off to hit a KS-19. Wish they'd fix that.

I asked TK to modify that behavior some time ago in the ThirdWire forums. No sooner had I posted a description of the problems this causes for strike and escort missions than several other users jumped into the thread and urged him NOT to change that behavior. They stated that they liked that kind of "aggressive" behavior from wingmen.

Much the same thing happened when the trees/clouds rendering issue was first reported to TK in the ThirdWire forums. Several other users jumped in and urged him NOT to bother addessing the issue, as it was one that affected only third-party mods.

Lo and behold almost one year later both problems remain unresolved.

Very frustrating.

There's always trade-offs. Remember the 'MiG riots' in F4AF? There would be more MiGs on your tail than the Serbians had. I also remember the ''thunderbolts from Zeus' AI in Flanker 2.0/2.5, and all manner of oddness in the Jane's games, and the AI in IL-2 was the single worst part of that game in that it cheated...even in Easy difficulty settings.

My grandfather used to say you can never get all the squirrels up one tree.
