Bedek Aviation Company Hoopoe T-1 - 201 Squadron, Heyl Ha'Avir, 1973 Founded in 1953 the Bedek Aviation Company progressed from maintaining Heyl Ha'Avir aircraft to the licence production of the French Fouga Magister in 1959. By late 1961 they had commenced their first original design the Hoopoe advanced jet trainer a fairly conventional and conservative design but planned to have a reserve role of light attack and by 1965 had several prototypes flying with production machines beginning to roll off the Lod assembly line. After the French arms embargo of 1967 Bedek proposed a single-seat attack variant with an uprated engine but this was rejected in favour of the Douglas Skyhawk. Hoopoe's served with all major Heyl Ha'Avir training squadrons plus 201 Squadron who operated the aircraft in the light attack role during the 1973 Yom Kippur war. Quote

Spinners Posted June 15, 2013 Author Posted June 15, 2013 Valmet Aviation VLH-1 'Taifuuna' - Ilmavoimat, 1949 In the immediate aftermath of World War 2 the Finnish Ministry of Defence (Puolustusministeri) embarked upon a bold programme to build two indigenous fighter aircraft for service with the Ilmavoimat with Hävittäjä-A being planned to be an interim piston-engined fighter aircraft to enter service in 1948 whilst the more ambitious Hävittäjä-B was planned to be a jet propelled fighter aircraft to enter service in 1950. To facilitate the indigenous production of these fighter aircraft the Parliament of Finland quickly created the state-owned Valtion Lentokonetehdas aircraft company as part of their new Valtion Metallitehtaat conglomerate. By early 1946 the Hävittäjä-A project had become the VLH-1 (with a design heavily influenced by the North American P-51 Mustang but powered by a Rolls-Royce Griffon 73 engine rated at 2,250hp with fuel injection) whilst the more advanced Hävittäjä-B (VLH-2) project resembled the contemporary Saab 29. However, the VLH-2 was cancelled in October 1946 due to strong Soviet objections voiced during the Paris Peace Conference which had a major impact on the future size and shape of the Ilmavoimat. With all resources now focused on just one project development moved smoothly during 1947 with the VLH-1 prototype taking to the air on August 15th, 1947 from the small Valtion Lentokonetehdas company airfield alongside the Tampere production line. Entering service as the 'Taifuuna' (Typhoon) in 1948 a total of 60 VLH-1's were produced serving with three Ilmavoimat squadrons until they were replaced by Supermarine Swifts during the mid-1950's. 1 Quote

Wrench Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 (edited) colors are wrong for 39. NS Blue and NS Gray didn't appear until approx. Nov 41, and wasn't fully in place before the end of Dec. fuselage would be NM, as would the wing undersides and tail unders, upper wing surfaces chrome yellow, NO rudder stripes (only from Jan - May 42 - all gone by Midway), fuselage band would be section color, ONLY on section leaders (a/c 1,4,7,10,13,16). Cowling on section leaders fully painted in section color Tail (rudder and fin) would be (lemon?) yellow, as VF-3 was attached to Lexington 3 aircraft per section, 6 sections per squadron, 18 a/c total section colors: ** 1=red 2=white 3="true" blue 4=black 5=willow green 6=lemon yellow #2 aircraft in each section (2,5,8,11,14,17) would have the TOP portion of the cowling painted in section color. #3 aircraft in each section (3,6,9,12,15,18) would have the LOWER portion of the cowl painted in section color "V" shaped chevron (pointing forward) in top of wing also in section color Stars in 4 positions only (wing top and bottom) **these colors are also used for the CV designator: Yorktown=red Saratoga=white Enterprise=(true) blue Wasp=black Ranger=green Lexington=(lemon) yellow pre-war USN/USMC marking are a frakking nightmare!! The only way I've experimented with, is Level 2 decals for cowl colors, and wasn't happy at all!! Edited August 7, 2013 by Wrench Quote
