Toryu 156 Posted April 3, 2011 (edited) Looks like parts of wreckage of the A330 that has crashed almost two years ago have been found on the ocean-floor. Investigators are sure they have found a major wreckage-site, if not the main-site. Whether the FDR and CVR will be found on that site is still not clear at this time. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-12953432 Additional info on the crash can be found here: http://www.avherald.com/h?article=41a81ef1/0053&opt=0 Edited April 3, 2011 by Toryu

+Typhoid 231 Posted April 4, 2011 (edited) Hope they can find the recorders. After this long on the bottom, the data might not be very good, but hopefully they can find something more definitive about the cause. We know of course what the cause was - a thunderstorm that exceeded the capabilities of the aircraft. But the sequence of failures may shed light on just how it all came apart. Toryu 156 Posted April 5, 2011 The only thing we know so far are the ACARS-messages, which indicate there has been a loss of speed-indication, followed by a cascade of instrumant-blackouts. The issue is not so much whether the FDR/ CVR have lost data due to the environmental circumstances (they're good don to 20,000ft and their digital data isn't gonna go away) - the question is whether they have recorded untill the time of impact, or if they have stopped prematurely due to a breakdown of electrical power.
