+quack74 329 Posted April 24, 2011 I've been trying to create a static aircraft from the "Aircraft" folder and placing it into the "Ground Objects" folder. I would like to place this "Static" aircraft around airfields in campaigns. I'm trying to do the remove mesh trick to create an AlbatrosDVa with no wings to be placed around hangar tents or corners of airfeilds. But....I cant get the aircraft to show up. I've created the "Types.ini" and placed it in the "Targets.ini" in the terrain folder. I've created a ground objects folder named AlbD5a_Static and placed it into the ground objects folder.I've edited much of the AlbD5a_Static's data.ini by removing cockpit data and altering engine info. Still cant get it to show. Can this be done? Has anyone done this before?
+quack74 329 Posted April 24, 2011 still have to remove struts and wires. Would make a cool ground object as an aircraft being serviced with the 'Flanders" ground crews.

Wrench 9,856 Posted April 25, 2011 how did you get it to NOT sink into the ground???? (you know you can add destroyed models too, scattered around the fields) wrench kevin stein
Heck 496 Posted April 25, 2011 (edited) You could also use the Albatros with just one lower wing removed, plus the wires on that side, so it looks like it's having a cracked lower wing replaced. Also, if you remove the engine from this one, leaving just the cabane struts and fuselage, standing on its undercarriage, it would look like an aircraft being salvaged for spare parts. Just some thoughts... Sorry, no idea why it's not showing in campaigns. Is it showing in single missions? Also, you mentioned changing the data.inis name. Once, I did a bonehead move and changed the data.inis name in an aircraft folder, but forgot to change the aircraft.inis also, so it didn't match the new folder name. +quack74 329 Posted April 25, 2011 Well these pics are just from an actual aircraft. NOT a ground object. I just altered the DV's data .ini. I still havnt been able to get it to show as a ground object. Wrench...I read somewhere about the aircraft sinking into the ground as a ground object but cant remember where. Is there a solution to this?
MigBuster 2,884 Posted April 25, 2011 Can you not just add more static locations to the airfield - ie like the ones that define where the parked aircraft go by the tents?
+quack74 329 Posted April 25, 2011 Can you not just add more static locations to the airfield - ie like the ones that define where the parked aircraft go by the tents? I can add those anywhere. The problem is it would only add more regular aircraft. What i would like to do is just create a ground object that is a aircraft with wings removed to place near hangars with ground crews and trucks. Then I could place them in the terrain's targets.ini But I cant get the aircraft to show as a ground object. I dont know why.
Wrench 9,856 Posted April 25, 2011 the sinking has never been fixed ... it's got something to do with the center 0/0 position of the lod (for a laugh, look in the SF2 screenshot thread for my sunken cuban beagles) The only way I know for sure to place a static aircraft is 1) plot new parking positions like MB said (unfortunately, generates random, undamaged A/C) or 2) have actual static lods of said aircraft (like the WW2 maps. Capun HAS some static WW1s, but ....) To add destroyed models scatered around, you need to plot the positions just like any other terrain object, then call them out in the _types.ini. Unfortunately, one needs to extract the various ObjectData***.ini to get the destroyed lod names (or, from the data inis of the aircraft). Not hard, but takes a couple of hours. Works really well, too, as the game engine will pull the destroyed unit dirctly from the ObjectCat, and place it. Kinda cool! wrench kevin stein
+quack74 329 Posted April 25, 2011 I could just use the Static aircraft from Gepards "Flanders" terrain. But there is no way to remove any of the meshes because there is no Data.ini for those objects. Is a static aircraft or objects parameters set up in 3DMax? If I have LOD's and a data.ini, why cant an aircraft convert to a static object? I've been trying many different ways. Nothing seems to be working. Maybe for some reason it just cant be done.
