A Severe Risk

Recommended Posts

OK, Jug decided to get slick and move his monster SF2 mod file to a different HD (25gig and growing). Edited the options.ini file to point to that drive and put the options.ini at this URL: C:\Users\Tim\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2\options.ini.

No joy! What did I miss?

May have fouled up twice. I only have one mod file for full merged SF2, SF2V, SF2E, and SF2I here: "D:\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2". Should I have four different mod files?

Running a really fast PC using Windows 7 premium.

Short answer is Yes, a mod folder for each .exe. :blink:

Long answer is that you actually need 2 sets of mod folders. Here is how I did it. I used a modified path to keep it as close as possible to how the game creates them on the "C:" drive. So mine are something like "K:\Data\Users\Owner\Saved Games\Thirdwire\StrikeFighters2" and the one the game created was "C:\Users\Owner\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2". Plus the others for each .exe such as "C:\Users\Owner\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2 Vietnam", etc.

Of course after you run each of the seperate .exe's it creates its own mod folder into the C: drive users\saved games folder, so they should already be there if you ran them at least once. I then Copy those mod folders to my K: drive in the path like above. Then edit the options.ini in the C: mod folders to the new path. Note you still need the mod folders on C:, but they only need contain the options.ini and version.ini files. The actual mod files and its subfolders go into your D: drive folders.

Quite messy. So you will end up with 2 sets of mod folders in effect, but the ones on C: just point to the other ones on the second drive by means of the path in the options.ini.

Any Questions? LOL

In your options.ini, under the folowing headers, make sure that you're using the correct path:

[Mods]

ModsEnabled=TRUE

Directory=Correct Path

Editors=StrikeFighters2

[screenShots]

Directory=Correct Path

Format=JPG

In regards to having multiple mod files, yes you can do that, but it's only necessary if you wish to maintain a separate, historically accurate mod folder for each title. For example, one might wish to limit aircraft and ground objects in SF2V or SF2I to only those that were historically available to either side in that theater.

Or, alternatively, you can make use of Windows Junctions, it's far cleaner and universal.

1) Install the Link Shell Extension, the manual is clear enough.

2) Move your files from their old location (OLD) to their new location (NEW).

3) If necessary, delete the OLD folder.

4) Right-click on the NEW folder, select "Pick Link Source".

5) Go to to parent folder where your OLD folder was, right-click on it, select "Drop Here...", "Junction"

It will make it absolutely transparent to the system, with no problems for installers expecting the default path.

Of course that can be done faster from the command line without having to install a shell extension, but the potential for errors is greater.

Oh, and 25Gb, tsss, I'm nearing 280Gb.

Gunrunner,

You da man! Worked like a charm. Thanks.

Bye the way, up to 128 Gig and climbing. Love it all!!!

Can someone paste the contents of the options.ini for SF2 Europe here? Mine seems to have gone awry!
