End1e551 Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 So I was flying an IDF/Air Force campaign in the F-15A Baz. Everything is routine, and on the way to the objective we engage some bogies. During the ensuing air to air combat, I'm hit by a Python 3. It destroys my right starboard vetical fin, and makes me look like a cigar (lots of smoke). I manage to keep control of the plane and get back to my airbase, where I successfully touch down, drive to a hangar, and turn off my engine. I exit the mission, and the AAR comes up saying I was KIA! Is it assumed I was hit by some shrapnel and died of my injuries later, or is something wonkey here? Quote
Slartibartfast Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Seen this before I accept it as getting the jet home but dying of injuries sustained... as this does happen. Quote
Spinners Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Who fired the Python 3? Yes, dead on arrival does happen but very rarely in my experience. Quote
End1e551 Posted October 25, 2011 Author Posted October 25, 2011 Ah okay, that's a shame, had a good campaign going on there. It certainly adds another level of realism for sure! Not sure who fired it, could it have been a friendly? I'm not knowledgable enough about the game yet to know if the enemy AI fires Pythons or not, but I do know my wingmen were loaded up with them... Slartibartfast Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Okay with the Python its an Israeli weapon not used by the Arab nations best idea is to look at wikipedia for basic weapons and who uses them etc... Quote
SayethWhaaaa Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Someone in your flight wasn't happy about your 'relations' with his wife... Quote
Heck Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Own goals do happen, I've tagged wingmen accidentally, and also binged other friendlies. And I've flown into friendly heat seekers as well. Not sure if I've ever been tagged by a friendly radar homing, but I think it could happen, if my radar signature happened to be more reflective than the original target. Anyone know if the AI can make a mistaken lock on, like I've done with those pesky strike aircraft I was supposed to be escorting in my early days? Quote
End1e551 Posted October 26, 2011 Author Posted October 26, 2011 Someone in your flight wasn't happy about your 'relations' with his wife... It wasn't me! It was DODGE 1-2! Quote
Gr.Viper Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 I exit the mission, and the AAR comes up saying I was KIA! If your plane is smoking grey ejecting over friendly territory is more likely to keep you alive. The game doesn't know whether you're landed or in the air when you end a mission, so resting in heavily damaged plane is an invitation for KIA. Quote
