komemiute 0 Posted November 11, 2011 Good day gentlemen, I'm approaching this a pure interest. I want to start creating models for SF2. Which tools are necessary for: -3d model -flight model -texture Thanks a bunch...
+aleks 9 Posted November 11, 2011 3d studio max 9 and over, the necessary plugins (exporters) to make *.lod files for the game.the tutorials that are in here, adobe photoshop for the textures and some good intuition in order to begin from a model that you can use its data file to make yours flyable
+ErikGen 44 Posted November 11, 2011 ... and tons of documentation ... and patience.
komemiute 0 Posted June 13, 2012 Hi again, I've been going through a lot to start this and I think I finally cleared my mind... So, my real qeustion comes here. I've found some REALLY nice models for free here, in the Download seciton. Let's assume that for a starter I want to modify one of these for "internal" use, which means I just want to toy around with stuff until I get proficient with the tools of the trade... I assume all the plane geometry is in the .LOD files... How would I manage to open them? I state, just to clarify, that I do NOT want to change them to re-upload them just to "look cool" or stuff. I only want to do some exercise to get my bearings... Thanks in advance!

Unless you reverse engineer the LOD to MAX format, which is a BIG NO NO and a path you don't want to take. You need the original Max file. Most modders are usual happy to help and some don't mind sharing their source file. But ask the given Modder of the desired aircraft you want to play a bit with. komemiute 0 Posted June 13, 2012 Thank you so much. I have something to play with, now! ^_^
Spinners 16,008 Posted June 13, 2012 IIRC there are some unfinished 3D models in the SF1 downloads section.
+Monty CZ 209 Posted June 14, 2012 If you are really interested in model creation I would suggest to start with buildings or ground objects You will learn the tricks and it is usualy easier (easy to make data.ini too) after some time you will see if you want to do that :-) One big plus - we always need more targets :-) This is better than to do "high-poly banana", call it a fuselage and then end the work because "it is not that easy as I thought" Welcome aboard Monty CZ
Wilches 1,173 Posted June 14, 2012 Hi komemiute and welcome! We don´t know nothing about your preferences but we still need some WWII props and 50s too here. That should be a good start for modelling. Good luck!
