AI wingmen useless for ground attack?

Recommended Posts

Ive searched, but every time I try AI in the search box it tells me to go pound sand.

Im trying to fly the 6 day war campaign in SF2:I. first mission is naturally an airfield attack.

Via the comms menu the only thing I can tell him to do is attack my target, but there's no way to target runways without turning on the simplified features and having nice little red boxes around the target, which Im trying to avoid.

So how do you use the wingmen to attack ground targets without going into full arcade mode?

When your whole flight is within visual range of the target; about 5 nautical miles to 3 nautical miles out. Use the visual locking command and tell your wingie or your second flight to attack. Once your AI destroyed your selected target, they will continue to ground pound from my experience.

Try cycling through the visual ground targets in the 'padlock view' (F4 key), that way you will look at each target you select -so when you’re looking at the target you want your wing man to attack use the 'attack my target' command

The very first thing you'll see when you toggle the E key and you're within the scripted "visual" range, is the primary target itself. That's when you direct your flight (or at least selected elements of it) to attack.

Actually, my wingmen are generally far better than me in A2G wit htext book attacks and all, they are not as good in A2A though, even the whole flight would end up with no weapon fired if you let them, the AI seems to be reacting to orders while left on its own it might not be doing much more than figuration.

Using the vsual targeting and "attack my target" order works fine.
