Surrounded By Losers

People at the bottom are destined to remain there.

It's been roughly three weeks since i relocated and hit skid row once again. Since then i've been tracking down various job leads and doing applications. Anyways, being on skid row exposes one to some truly pathetic examples of manhood.

So much whining about the "System" and "The Rich" and what "The government should give us" for example. Worst of all are in two categories- A...Those of job age who are in good health but won't get off their ass, and B...Older men who don't have a thing to show for all their time spent on earth. Lord help you around here if you have plans or ambitions. You spend enough time talking to people or listening in on conversations and without a doubt you'll know that you are truly amongst the bottom dwellers. To the victor go the spoils. It's as easy as that. You live to be nothing and nothing is what you surely will be. Anyone here out of alignment with their mindset will be treated with the harshest of scorn.

F@$#k Them All!

May their worthless corpses fill paupers graves.

Someday i shall think of the filth while drinking champagne on a tropical beach. (Eighth Rule Of Carney)

Conquer or perish!

Don't see how taking a cr*p on others can raise ones spirits but hey...whatever moves your steam machine...

I raise my spirits by trying to be better than I previously was(in any way I possibly can regardless of how small it may be), not better than "some others" whoever may they be..

However, regardless of all that, I wish you the best of luck in moving your life in desired direction :good:

I agree with you in spirit Brain but I think he's commenting on the fact there in this country there are leaches that game the system and drain needed resources from the people who are really in need of help and that are trying to better themselves. there are millions in the USA that sit around collecting govermeent checks contributing nothing and not even trying.I'm all for treating anyone who is in need and trying with nothing but respect but to the leaches who in all respects are stealing I have nothing but contempt.

True, but when they keep laying you off, you get demoralized pretty quick. But yeah ya gotta keep trying to survive.

Yeah many of us in the same sh*t, that's what makes me ask some other questions instead of just grinding my teeth thinking it's all my fault...

As for leeches, yeah I understand I know such people, rights are ok, obligations are not, however most of those make my government

There are even more dangerous and leecherous people, no good self created litlle gods, those earning top salaries in all sorts of vague public or semi public institutions in the complete industry that they brought into existence around social welfare (and foreign aid too for that matter) :angry2:

The worst leeches are the fly-by-night "entrepreneurs" who only take new hires on as "interns" because then they get paid by the govt and doesn't have to pay salaries, essentially gaming the system while systematically shafting unemployed people.

I first read this thread as "surrounded by lasers" and thought it was going to be something REALLY cool.

Ah well, disappointments abound.

I get irked by big pay for crappy job performance, like that woman who ran HP into the ground but was given like $40m just to GO AWAY and let the company recover. I mean literally anyone else in that position could've done no worse, yet they picked HER. They could've spent 1/10 of that money on someone else from inside the company and I bet it would likely be in BETTER shape than it is now.

everyone has to remember that a job is not a human right. if an employer is offering crap pay you do not have to take the job. it's just like how it was hundreds of years ago. it's your responsibility to get food and shelter for your family. if the hunting is bad or your crops fail you just have to deal with it and figure something out. same today if buisnesses are only hiring part time you work part time at as many as are needed. it's the reponsibility of the buisness owner to do what is best for his buisness and it's the reponibility of me to do whats best for me.nothing in life is fair and we have forgotten how harsh life is and how hard you have to work just to eat.todays people are spoiled in some ways. in the past if you lost your job you'd uproot and travel thousands of miles looking for jobs or move around the globe to dangerous lands in the hope of a new start. nowadays if things are not perfevt people sit on thier ass in their goverment payed for home eatting goverment paid for food and going to goverment paid for doctors. thats just sad.Everybody deserves a hand when they are down but there are no garuntees in life and the people willing to do what ever it takes and who sacrifice are the ones who deserve respect.

I agree with most of this but it never ceases to amaze me that Americans tend to be so against state healthcare:

"goverment paid for doctors"

Corection tax funded doctors... i.e. paid for by yourself... just like the military, police and fire brigade... whats the difference?

You're happy to pay to be defended and protected from harm by the military and police forces, you're happy to pay for a fire department to protect property but theres an objection when it comes to healthcare, while at the same time insurance companies shaft you royally by not paying out when you need them most.

fire and police are paid for on a local and state level where things can be controled by the people using the services where a federal healthcare system would be under control of a huge buracracy that has shown that everything it touches becomes more expensive and massivly degraded from a quality stand point.long waits and rationed care are not good for peoples health.there is a reason why people who can afford it come to america for operations that they could have gotten free in other nations. For a cold or a check up the system works but if your in need of imediat or life saving procedures the last thing I want is the same people who are in charge of the post office or the DMV to be making critical choices that should be solely between me and my doctor.Changes and fixes need to be made for sure but letting the goverment get involved will do nothing but make things worse(as we are already seeing as cost are doubleing even before things are fully implemented.) :drinks:

Things are different in USA and Europe, very different.

You just can't apply the same rules to all that as they are simply not fitting...

Also I think job IS a human right, but like all others it must not be enforced in such way to harm other people...

I'm not trying to be difficult at all but I don't understand how a job is a human right. if that was the case you would have to force the buisness leaders to give people jobs even if it hurt them. forcing a person to do something even if they don't wish it or it will hurt them to me is fundamentaly evil. I should be free to determine what is best for me and my buisness.Everyone should be equaly treated when it comes to jobs no meaterr of race religion or sex but to say that somone has a right to a job just because they were born dosn't seem right to me. it's up the the individual to get the skills and then prove to somone they are worth hiring and that they will be worth what they want to be paid. I make crap money. I live below the poverty level. I am forced to do this because of the limited skills that I have. My hours have been cut in half due to the economic issues and things are beyond tough for me and my family. it's not the goverments or buisnesses job to get me more money it's MY responsibility to find a way to provide for my family and myself.I do not expect my employer to out of some sence of charity increase my pay or hours. they will do that when it becomes economicaly viable for them to do it. when I can make more for the company than they pay.thats how things work. while I want and need money to pay my bills I can't expect others to do it for me and I certainly do not expect my employer to damage his buisness in order to make my life easier.

What really bugs the hell out of me is a collection of "men" that don't have the balls to look at the situation they're in and figure out a way out on their own.

Fact of homeless life...If you are a single male of job age in relatively good health, you got nothing coming. It's pretty much you against the world. If you're a junkie, drunk, or layabout, it's such an easier life. A particular pain in the ass is older f#%$ks who get checks that can easily pay for rent, food and such, but choose to spend it on getting a motel room and partying the money away. The vast majority don't even last a week and then back to the shelters. The s**ts get priority because of age and so get in ahead of anyone younger than 50. Many times no one but them make it in.

Me? I'm renting a bed at Salvation Army. Costs $220 a month. If i don't get a job within the next two weeks or so i'm going to camp out. I've been everywhere in this area and know multiple spots. Just have to worry about keeping clean enough to look for work.

Every single day you find a number of people at the shelters who do nothing but hang around doing absolute jacks**t. They can easily tell you of every foodline within a mile though as well as when they serve. They can also advise you of a number of welfare scams. "Getting over" instead of getting a job is the common attitude and welfare instead of work is the goal.

Nothing but a cesspool of human sewage.

As i said before-F$%k Them All.

It's the same way freedom of speech is a human right but if you insult somebody you will be held responsible in the court of law. Of course nobody looks at the right of a freedom of speech as the right to say whatever, whenever to whoever right?

I look at this "job as a human right" in the same way meaning that I do sincerely believe that one society should give just as much effort to create an environment that will encourage, stimulate and promote creation of society in which having a job is just as important as having a right to speak your mind.(We had that in the 50's and 60's btw.)

it's not the goverments or buisnesses job to get me more money it's MY responsibility to find a way to provide for my family and myself.

I agree completely, governments job is like I wrote above to create such business environment or economical climate that offers opportunities. What are they getting THEIR paychecks for? Collecting taxes? You could train a monkey to do that, governments need to get off their @ss and start working not just for the billionaires but also for millionaires, smaller firms, small family enterprises and average workers too, not to give them "free money" but to create more opportunities.

That's the way it works in economics, some stuff just can't happen by itself...it NEVER did

Just got a call earlier. I'll be in Arizona in a few weeks working in a national park for 3 months then i intend to transfer to Texas. That'll hold me until next June when i'll head back to civilization.

I'll bet any amount of money that come next year at the same time there will be many of the same faces around here doing nothing.

BTW-In no way do i consider work a "Right" You want it? Go get it!

To: Lt. James Cater

Just a few thoughts, after reading the previous posts on this thread ....

I left the Military about 20+ years ago

(I assume you still harbor some fondness for that system, since you chose "Lt. James Cater" as your screenname here).

I settled in the Washington, DC Suburbs -- where EVERY disenfranchised (you choose the adjective) person from WHEREVER the US Govt. chooses to exercise it's "Spread Democracy" policy (Afghanistan, Iraq, El Salvador, VietNam, etc.) eventually settles, and starts looking for work (along with their sisters, and their cousins, and their uncles, and their aunts... etc.)

The VA was a great help to me -- paid 100% for about 2 years of college-level schooling in Paralegal Studies.

[Don't comment -- in Washington DC, lawyers, and lawyer-related work, are in high demand ...Well, stands to reason, dunnit???]

Anyway,

What I most remember about the experience (and, you probably do, also) is the inherent attitude about "If you want something done right, do it yourself" and "There is no such thing as a free lunch."

[We can argue thes points endlessly, but it all comes down to the same thing,,,]

You have already shown that you have accepted these precepts ... And, all to the good!

Somebody once said, "Democracy is a poor form of Government -- but it is much better than whatever is in second-place" (or something like that).

Well, we live, and try to get by, with what we've got ...

I think you've got a good attitude, and things should come to you, over time, to your advantage.

Do not give up ....

:salute:
