+Jug 99 Posted September 18, 2012 When the military takes their oath of office it is to uphold the U. S. Constitution, period. I kinda like the fact that the elected representatives are not in that oath.
JediMaster 451 Posted September 18, 2012 Because even back then it was realized that it is far better to put your faith in an ideal than a person. Humans will let you down. Having your oath (and the oath of all said elected officials) be to an ideal makes it far easier to oust the corrupt. If you pledge an oath to say the president, and they do something criminal, you're sort of obligated to cover it up and help them get away with it!
SayethWhaaaa 245 Posted September 19, 2012 ...still haven't figured out that whole bear arms issue though.
JediMaster 451 Posted September 20, 2012 Well, back then there were a lot more bears, and they walked upright and were quite capable of carrying heavy loads. Having your own bear arms was extremely useful.
+Jug 99 Posted September 21, 2012 You guys! It is all about short sleeve shirts, you know, bare arms! If you live in a place that is too cold to bare arms, then move south. The constitution says we all have the right to bare arms, but you need to be practical about it.
Slartibartfast 153 Posted September 21, 2012 I thought it was to arm bears... not that they need any more ahem claw power... May America stand as she has done...
