There are parts of it at the USAF Museum and I have the book about it too. Like you said a fascinating story.

I saw a documentary on Lady Be Good a number of years ago. It is one of those stories in history that makes me shake my head over the event chain that lead to tragedy.

Wiki suggests they thought they were close to the Med so thought they could just walk North - but also suggests if they went South they could have found the B-24 with working radio and water! 

 

Not so easy to decide when you have a compas and no real clue where you are.
