Peugeot205 Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 (edited) In real life, French Navy considered to buy some Phamtoms but..... they were too big for the Foch/Clemenceau, so we chose the F-8 instead. Edited December 21, 2013 by cangas Quote
Spinners Posted December 21, 2013 Author Posted December 21, 2013 (edited) And a bloomin' good aircraft it was! However, I wonder if the Spey F-4K Phantom with all it's little tricks would have worked? Edited December 21, 2013 by Spinners Quote
+Stratos Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 Please Spinners tell me you will pack those and release, they look gorgeous! Quote
Sheriff001 Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 I think the F-4K would have worked from Foch, though aircraft handling would have been an issue. Quote
Toryu Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 And a bloomin' good aircraft it was! However, I wonder if the Spey F-4K Phantom with all it's little tricks would have worked? So do I! The Ark Royal wasn't larger (albeit it had more displacement) than the Clemenceau. With the modifications of the F-4K (especially the higher thrust and increased bleed-air massflow and the resulting higher lift when configured), the Phantom might have worked on the french carriers. +Cliff7600 Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 If I'm right, FAA Phantoms had been tested aboard a french carrier during exercise. About deck landing or catapulting everything worked. But the F-4 would not have been able to operate on the Foch or the Clémenceau because, on the long term, the deck would have been damaged by the exhaust temperture. FAA carrier on the pic French Aéronavale thought about buying A-4, not F-4, never. Quote
Spinners Posted December 21, 2013 Author Posted December 21, 2013 French Aéronavale thought about buying A-4, not F-4, never. Thankfully, we can put that right. 1 Quote
Derk Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 The French do paint 'em up verry prettily !!!!! Quote
+Cliff7600 Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 Yes, they would be awesome in USN grey too. Like early Crouze. Quote
Spinners Posted December 22, 2013 Author Posted December 22, 2013 McDonnell Douglas F-4J(FN) - Flotille 17F, Aéronavale, 1988 @ Cliff7600 - I know you mean the earlier scheme but I thought I'd try a later scheme using the DLC F-4J skin. 5 Quote
