+WhiteBoySamurai Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 View File Kidd class and Kee Lung class destroyers This model represents the Kidd class destroyers, multi-role warships based on the Spruance class. Originally built for the Imperial Iranian Navy, they were cancelled after the 1979 revolution and completed for the US Navy instead, serving from 1981 until 1999. After decommissioning, all four ships were sold to Taiwan. They were recommissioned for the Republic of China Navy as the Kee Lung class starting in 2005. These ships are included in the package as a separate variant with updated weapons and custom decals, and are capable of leading ROCN task groups in missions. The Kidd class will join existing USN task groups once installed, but for ROCN task groups, you will need an additional ship pack. See the readme for full details. If you have any questions, comments, concerns, or constructive criticisms regarding this model, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you! +whiteknight06604 Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 excellent. There just can not be enough ships. Quote
KJakker Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 WBS, I just took a look at the Kidd Class's missile armament and I think you gave them too many SAM in their magazines. You have 80 RIM-66D missiles for 40 each fore and aft, however the Kidd class's forward Mk 26 Mod 3 GMLS only has a 24 round magazine while the aft Mk 26 Mod 4 GMLS has a 44 round magazine, which is a total of 68 missiles for both magazines combined. As I understand it they usually carried 52 Standard and 16 ASROC but I don't have any info on how they would have been distributed between the fore and aft magazines. I was thinking maybe one of these two arrangement might be possible alternatives. Idea 1 Fore: 20 Standard, 4 ASROC Aft: 32 Standard, 12 ASROC Or Idea 2 Fore: 24 Standard Aft: 28 Standard, 16 ASROC Quote
+WhiteBoySamurai Posted April 23, 2014 Author Posted April 23, 2014 Most of the sites I've seen list the Kidd class as carrying 80 missiles in the magazines (when they list any number at all), so I would like to see some sort of official citation. The only place I could find that refers to a 24-missile forward mag was from an un-sourced anonymous post on a web forum. I have seen some figures of the ROCN ships only carrying 60-something SM-2. However, when the ships were sold to Taiwan, they did not receive the full load of Standard missiles and had to purchase more later. I assumed this accounted for the discrepancy in published figures. KJakker Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Sources listed below with bold text added for emphasis. From page 146 of the 1999 issue of Jane's Warship Recognition Guide. ISBN: 0-00-472211-6 Missiles: SSM – McDonnell Douglas Harpoon (2 quad) launchers. SAM - 52 GDC Standard SM-2MR Block II. 2 twin Mk 26 (Mod 3 and Mod 4) launchers. A/S – 16 Honeywell ASROC; payload Mk 46 Mod 5 Neartip torpedoes. Fired from SAM launchers. From "NAVEDTRA 14909 Gunner’s Mate 3 & 2 – Chapters 7 through 8 (1996)" page 24 of PDF file. See also "Mk 26 GMLS Product Brochure by United Defense" for additional info. MOD AND SERIAL NUMBER DIFFERENCES The Mk 26 GMLS is currently divided into six different Mods that differ mainly in missile-stowage capacities and “value engineering design changes.” Refer to figure 7-17. The magazine of the Mod 0, called the basic system, contains two RSRs that can stow 12 missiles each. By adding one lo-missile module to each RSR, the Mod 0 becomes a Mod 1; likewise, by adding two 10-missile modules to each RSR, the Mod 0 becomes a Mod 2. The Mod 0, then, can stow 24 missiles; the Mod 1, 44 missiles; and the Mod 2, 64 missiles. The first eight systems manufactured were assigned serial numbers 1 through 8 and are currently the Mods 0, 1, and 2 systems. They are primarily installed on the CGN-38 Virginia class. Mk 26 systems with serial numbers 9 through 18 have incorporated valuable engineering design changes into various components of the launching, loading, strikedown/intertransfer, and control system. These design changes alter the physical characteristics of components and systems without affecting their functional characteristics. Generally, these minor design changes were made to reduce system cost and weight. They also improved system reliability, maintainability, and availability (RMA). These systems were originally built as Mod 0s and Mod 1s but, because of the number of changes made, are now designated Mod 3s (old Mod 0s) and Mod 4s (old Mod 1s). They are primarily installed on the DDG-993 Kidd class. The Mk 26 Mod 5s are installed on the CG-47 Ticonderoga- class ships with the AEGIS weapons system. Additional design changes have been made to interface with the AEGIS equipments. The magazine capacity is the same as Mod 1 and 4 systems. The magazine size of the different Mods also affects some auxiliary equipment. The amount of piping needed for the sprinkling and water injection systems grows with the magazine stowage capacity. The extra piping also needs more pressurized seawater. Ship air-conditioning demands differ among the various Mods. The launcher is the same for all six Mods. Except for internal logic circuitry and some panel displays, the ICS for each Mod is the same. The strikedown/ intertransfer mechanism is unchanged. However, additional RSR modules do move the mechanism farther from the launcher. Quote
+WhiteBoySamurai Posted April 23, 2014 Author Posted April 23, 2014 Good find. One would think that an important detail about a ship such as missile capacity would be less obscure. I'll upload the adjusted data files. Anyone who wants to make the adjustments themselves, just open the DDG-993_DATA.ini and DDG-1801_DATA.ini, Ctrl+F to get to the "//Standard launchers" section. For Missile01 and 02: ReloadCount=11 For Missile03 and 04: ReloadCount=21 With four missiles on the rails, that brings the total to 68. There's no reason to account for ASROC, since Strike Fighters takes place in an alternate universe with no functional submarines or need for ASW, but feel free to take another 8x2 rounds off the aft magazine if you feel the need.
