Opinions regarding the F-105 Thunderchief canopy frame

Recommended Posts

Is the F-105 canopy frame too wide in the sim? In real life did the F-105 have such a wide canopy frame?

Thanks,

The canopy frame, or the canopy bow?  If you mean the bow (the part that forms the windscreen), you must recall that it is a matter of simulating the perspective from which one views it while sitting in the cockpit. As it is angled forward and down, it would appear to be quite "thick" in real life, and when you add the canopy frame to the mix, yes it can appear somewhat wide.

Still wonder if it's possible to get rid of the "bow frames" like what could be done with the F 4 pit, giving it a one piece windscreen .

Would be great to have to simulate a Draken pit...

Removing the center windscreen frames should be doable, but remember that the J35 has two support struts that run from the canopy bow to the top of the anti-glare pane, just in front of the IP.

In the MiG-21 cockpits of Paladrian it was possible to remove some parts. But to do it in the F-4 cockpit you must know the meshnames. And i dont know where you could get them.
