rlwicker1967 Posted March 6, 2019 Posted March 6, 2019 First, I just started flying WOV again after the Windows 10 update problem. I've always hated the FM of the Phantom J in the game. Now, I say it's the FM but, I think it's something with the FM when it's flown by the player. There is far too much drag when flown by a player. Reasons I say that? I'm flying a 2 ship single mission MiG CAP with 2 tanks, 4 radar, 4 heat. I power out in Full ABand can't get above Mach 1. Now, I didn't wait for number 2. Yet, by the time I get to 15K, he's almost caught up to me. So, I cut the throttle to get him close. Then, I go to full AB and start heading toward the waypoint. Number 2 accelerates with me WITHOUT AB. Every once in a while number 2 goes into AB only to have to shut it down so he doesn't pass me. Screenshots show Lead in full AB while number 2 smokes in MT. Was there a fix for this that I missed? Do I need to lose some weight or something? FWIW, I really like the way the Phantom E flies and that one can do over Mach 1 without AB. Any assistance or insight is appreciated. img00001.bmp img00003.bmp Quote

+streakeagle Posted March 6, 2019 Posted March 6, 2019 FM is not dead on, but mostly OK for the player. AI is allowed to cheat in many ways, including the ability to catch up and get in formation faster and easier than a player could under the same circumstances. Quote
+baffmeister Posted March 9, 2019 Posted March 9, 2019 For an interesting look at one way the AI cheats, use hud de-bug mode, do an autopilot take-off with your plane, and watch the aircraft weight as it mysteriously decreases during the take-off roll. 1 Quote

Never noticed this before. After some tests, it seems it depends on the flight model setting (normal or hard). If set to normal, the user gets the same weight reduction as the AI. The question is, what defines the amount of weight reduction? Quote
