SF2 (1937 - 1941) Prop FM Tweaks

Hello SF2 flyers,

For several late 1930s and early WW2 prop aircraft, tweaks have been applied to the data inis, ranging from lift values for wings and wing tips to the engine section, prop rpms, flight control section, gears section, flaps, also empty weight, inertia values, ceilings, engine sounds, rudder reversal effect fix, aileron/elevator/rudder sensitivity and movement, etc., depending on the type tweaked. Tweaks are not as extensive as for my FE2 work - but I've tried to get them into the "90% realistic enough" category for SF2 since these higher performing types are difficult to precision peg to within a km or two of historical stats., in contrast to the slower-moving FE2 types.

Many thanks to the original FM modders for these prop types, including Baffmeister, Wrench, Cocas, MontyCZ, Charles of A-Team, Coupi, Paulopanz, and others I may not have mentioned here. The data inis are for SF2 installs only, tested at hard FM settings (no guarantees that the AI can land them nicely, although they fly them just fine). Please read the included "Read Me" file for more thorough information and also to access the links to the aircraft that have been tweaked.

Happy flying,
Von S :buba:

Jan. 23, 2020: Version 1.1 of the early WW2 FM update pack for SF2 includes the Tony Ki-60/early 61 and the Polikarpov I-15 gull wing biplane (with M22 engine variant) for the PTO theater, and the Gladiator Mk.I for the PTO and MTO theaters. Also included are post-damage physics fixes for the Polikarpov I-16 (Type 10) and more realistic fuel consumption on the Army Zero Ki-43.

Happy flying,

Feb. 20, 2020: Version 1.1.1 - deleted useless "DS_store" files from package that were being generated on the OS X side of the Mac Pro. Simply a cosmetic tweak.

      Hello fellow FE2 fliers,
      Instead of posting under the stickied "ini tweaks" thread - that hasn't seen fresh posts in a couple of yrs., I thought I'd open a separate (small) post here for something I stumbled upon only yesterday while tinkering with my rudder setups in WOFF and IL2-BoM installs - and I realized that it might work well for FE2/SF2 too.
      Those of you flying with "twist" joystick and/or rudder pedal setups might still find this helpful - but it is especially intended for those of you who are still flying with older/cheapish sticks (such as the Logitech Attack 3 in my case, with no twist capability) - you most likely have left/right rudder mapped to the top left/right buttons on the joystick. In WOFF, and other sims, it's usually a question of (manually) clicking several times left or right to get desired rudder input, and then clicking the center button on your stick to center the rudder.
      For a few yrs., I've really only been frustrated by one thing in the TW sims., and that was the "snappish" response of the auto-rudder setup - until I dug further into some of the more obscure entries of the Default.ini file located under "C:\Users\Yourusername\Saved Games\ThirdWire\FirstEagles2\Controls" (same directory path for SF2, except substitute StrikeFighters2 for FirstEagles2).
      The relevant entries to tamper with are the following three:
      -----
      [RangedControl001]
      AxisControl=PITCH_CONTROL
      MaxValue=1000.000000
      MinValue=-1000.000000
      DeadZone=0.000000
      Saturation=115.000000
      ReverseJoystick=TRUE
      MouseScale=1.000000
      UseMouseRate=FALSE
      ReverseMouse=FALSE
      LimitValue=TRUE
      SelfCenterRate=1.000000 -----> I recommend setting this to 1.0 for FE2, to slow down the elevator self-centering rate for WWI 'crates with their wires and cables (leave at the default value of 2.0 for WW2 and Cold War installs in SF2 with "faster" hydraulic setups)
      //2.000000
      KeyControlRate=1.000000
      AllowKeyControl=TRUE
      IncreaseControl=PITCH_DOWN
      DecreaseControl=PITCH_UP
      CenterControl=   [RangedControl002]
      AxisControl=YAW_CONTROL
      MaxValue=1000.000000
      MinValue=-1000.000000
      DeadZone=0.000000
      Saturation=115.000000
      ReverseJoystick=FALSE
      MouseScale=1.000000
      UseMouseRate=FALSE
      ReverseMouse=FALSE
      LimitValue=TRUE
      SelfCenterRate=0.100000 -----> recommended, for those using left/right joystick buttons to control rudder, is to reduce to a value of about 0.1 for WWI 'crates, again to simulate cable/wire control, but also in order to allow for lots of manual left/right rudder correction that, once you stop controlling rudder, allows it to return back to center position somewhat slowly (takes about 10 seconds to return to center); for WW2 and Cold War SF2 installs, a better value to use is something like 0.25 for the self-center rate, again to mimic the extra force of hydraulic controls
      //2.000000
      KeyControlRate=1.000000
      AllowKeyControl=TRUE
      IncreaseControl=YAW_RIGHT
      DecreaseControl=YAW_LEFT
      CenterControl= -----> have not bothered to use this since I like the 0.1 value for self-centering, for FE2, but, for those lacking twisty rudders or pedals, the most logical choice here is the top center button on the joystick, sandwiched between the left/right buttons for left/right rudder input   [RangedControl003]
      AxisControl=ROLL_CONTROL
      MaxValue=1000.000000
      MinValue=-1000.000000
      DeadZone=0.000000
      Saturation=115.000000
      ReverseJoystick=FALSE
      MouseScale=1.000000
      UseMouseRate=FALSE
      ReverseMouse=FALSE
      LimitValue=TRUE
      SelfCenterRate=1.000000 -----> I recommend setting this to 1.0 for FE2, to slow down the aileron self-centering rate for WWI 'crates with their wires and cables and generally sloppy ailerons (leave at default value of 2.0 for WW2 and Cold War installs in SF2 with "faster" hydraulic setups, as with the elevator setup in the relevant entry in this post)
      //2.000000
      KeyControlRate=1.000000
      AllowKeyControl=TRUE
      IncreaseControl=ROLL_RIGHT
      DecreaseControl=ROLL_LEFT

      SF2 Jane's USAF Hi-Res 1024x768 Menu Screens and Music!
      By Viper

      The Janes' Combat Flight Simulation Series! Every flight Sim'mer worth their wings remembers those! My favorite was the USAF! This package pays tribute to that old beautiful bird. It took me awhile to create this, so feedbacks and ratings would be highly appreciated...Enjoy!

      This mod includes custom "Jane's USAF" themed menu screens, pilots and music. This mod uses customized INI files to drive the sights and sounds of the Strike Fighter 2 interface to look like Jane's USAF.

      Unzip the package and preview the new screens before installing them. I recommend doing this as there are MANY alternate screens I have in there that you might like better (More on this later).

      If you choose to install this package, I recommend that you back up (copy) your FLIGHT, MENU and PILOTDATA folders in the SF2 Mod folder you're installing this package into. Just in case you want to go back to your original setup.

      * To install, simply unzip and copy the uncompressed FLIGHT, MENU and PILOTDATA folders to your StrikeFighter2 mod folder. I designed this package for SF2 Europe, but it should work for all SF2 series games.

      My StrikeFighter2 mod on Win97 64-bit was..(yours may be different)...

      C:\Users\<your_id>\Saved Games\Thirdwire\StrikeFighter2 Europe\

      * To remove, simply delete the active FLIGHT, MENU and PILOTDATA folders and replace with the back up copies you made prior to the install.

      -----------------------------------------------------------------
      * Extras and additional info...

      In the MENU folder, you will find three (3) other folders...

      1) Alternates Folder - Contains "Alternate" Campaign, Options, Pilot, and Single Mission screens. If you like one of these better, just copy them to the main "MENU" folder and rename them to the correct names...

      CampaignScreen.jpg
      OptionsScreen.jpg
      PilotRecordScreen.jpg
      SingleMissionScreen.jpg

      ...for whichever files you are changing...

      2) Music-Jets Folder - Contains alternate sound package. If the default music is too much for you, just copy the contents of this file into the default "MENU" folder. Most of the music will be replaced with jet sounds.

      3) Music-On Folder - Contains the default INI files that will turn on all the music again.

      Enjoy!

      View File FM Tweaks for WOFFue/pe
      Hello fellow flyers of WOFFue/pe,
      You will find enclosed in the attached zip file 45 tweaked FMs for engined-up aircraft currently not present in WOFFue: a 150hp Fokker Dr.1, a late Albatros D.II 180hp, a Nieuport 25/27 165hp variant, a tuned up late Sopwith Tripe, a tweaked Nieu. 28, a tuned up Fokk. Eindecker IIa, a late Sopwith Pup, the rare Nieu. 23bis, a field mod of the Alb. D.I, and three variants of the SPAD 7 (150/180/220hp). Also included is a tweaked two-gun Tripe, Camel and Fokk. D.VII variants, as well as an Albatros D.III Oeffag variant, an improved Albatros D.Va 200hp, three subvariants of the SPAD 13 (200/220/235hp), and tweaked Nieuports 10, 11, and 16. Further included are tweaks for the Vickers-armed family of later Nieups., including the regular 17, the 17bis, the 23, the 24bis, the later 24, and the 27. As well, I'm pleased to include a Bristol Scout Type C, early and late versions of the Pfalz (D.III and IIIa), also a Siemens-Halske powered Fokker D.VI, a tuned up Fokker D.VIII, and improved Alb D.V and uprated D.V variants. And the 8Ba Hisso.-powered version of the Se5a is included too (best of the Scout Experimentals). Included in the latest, special edition package is an early Morane-Saulnier Parasol, a later variant too, as well as the tweaked Pfalz A.I and E.III variants. Please read the enclosed "Read Me" file for more info. on the FM tweaks. The FM tweaks are JSGME program enabled, for convenience. Simply move the aircraft folders that you will find into the MODS folder of your WOFF user directory, toggle on/off with the JSGME enabler, and go fly. A big thank you to all the WOFFue modders and the good folks at OBD Software for making such an enjoyable sim. Those who fly these 45 and similar models in First Eagles 2 will become comfortable quickly with the FM tweaks, since they are similar across both sims.
      Von S
      NOTE: Only load one of the SPAD 7 and SPAD 13 variants at a time via the JSGME enabler, since WOFFue only holds one SPAD 7 and 13 folder that can be modded. The same rule applies to the 110 and 130hp Camel variants, the Pfalz D.III and D.IIIa, as well as the early and later variants of the Morane Parasol. The Oeffag Albatros D.III replaces the standard mid-series Albatros D.III in WOFFue, while the 8Ba Hisso.-powered Se5a replaces the standard Se5a.
