macelena Posted December 21, 2020 Posted December 21, 2020 Couldn't find a link in English, but basically, they all got replaced by A-400Ms. I've seen them both fly past quite lately since i got stationed near Zaragoza AB, but to be honest, it makes you feel old knowing the aircraft you used to jump from are museum-worthy stuff now. 3 2 Quote
Nesher Posted December 21, 2020 Posted December 21, 2020 Is the A400M considered better than the C-130? Or is it because it's European..? Quote
+Gepard Posted December 21, 2020 Posted December 21, 2020 The A400M is faster and it is a much more modern design. BUT it is build by a company that had never built a military transport plane before. Thatswhy i would prefer the most modern version of the american Herc, or the An-70 from the Ukraine. Quote

Besides being more modern, it is meant to be somewhere between a C-130 and a C-17. I talked to my Sgt, who is still in the unit, and they are loving it compared to the C-130. 2 Quote

Ha ha ha ... old you said. My last jump from one of these Hercules was in 1983. But I still remember the pressure change when opening the doors before the jump. In any case, I preferred the Aviocar, tiny, almost a minivan. But always preferable to the Caribou, everyone sitting on the floor of the plane and the incredible vibrations before takeoff. Quote

It only took a look at the old pics from that time that we kept around in the company to realize how nuts it was for the old timers. Quote
