My dear friends. i need your reccomendations. i need a program to paint textures in wiewport like in 3ds max. 3Ds Max 9 dont have painting tool. I have modern max it only on my work computer. Advise to me a program, which i can install at home. ZBrush is toooo complicated, Blender i dont like the interface. may be there is special texturing software? Please advise. Thank you.

why not create a general blank map then use Photoshop (if you have money) or GIMP (if you dont)?

its how the rest of us do things

if your talking about seeing how it looks on the model as you work, work the texture then check work in Mues LODviewer (in the download section). sounds tedious but if you have two screens, you can have the viewer on one, the program youre working on the other and refresh as soon as you export the new image.

works for skin textures and decals too

That sounds a bit like the 50's. Everything has to be nuclear driven...from a car to a toaster, because THAT's the future!:drinks:

well what ever floats your boat.

when you get cold and come back inside my advice stands. and having used both, GIMP is nearly as functional as Photoshop, but much cheaper at 0.00 dollars, euro, dinar, ruble or any other denomination you can think of

but watching out of curiousity t osee what other methods/tools popup

1. Other metod it is to take a brush exectly in 3 DS MAX and start painting in wievport. But as i said, its only in modern 3DS MAX. on my scrinshot i am painting the hellicopter in modern 3ds max Our 3DS max 2009 which use LOD exporter for SF2 isnt support this function. Having 2 MAXes at home i think it is too much for home computer i believe.

2. Another way it is to use free program Blender. This is 3d modeling software. You can load your model and as in modern max just take brush and start painting. But as i said i dont like the interface of Blender and it is a BIG program

3rd way is to use ZBrush. The process is the same as above. But This programm is too big, too heavy and monumental And not comfy.

4. Using Photoshop. Modern. You can export your model to OBJ format from max file. Load it in Photoshop. Import it. And take brush and paint on a model. But photoshop is 2d software and his function with 3d object is too poor.

THATS WHY i am asking, do some one know SPECIALISED software for texturing and painting on a model. Everyone understand that one can take a blank texture and just paint in 2d way as our fathers did it before and our grandfathers did and their fathers and grandfathers did... I did billion textures this way but question is not how to draw in 2d mode, question in other thing. But i see nobody knows. Okay. let it be. bee bee beeeeee.

Finally a sensible commentary. Thank you, tomorrow I will try to download the trial version. It looks like this is exactly what I wanted.  Thank you!

This is what I am using for most of my textures.

For years now I've been using Maxon Cinema4D, don't be confused by the name it has  capabilities to paint in 2d and 3d , works with layers and will save your results as .psd, jpeg etc.

I only use it on heavily distorted meshes  or to line up the panel lines/camo where I don't have the original max files at hand but you can import photoshop brushes into the programme which make using your custom brushes a bonus. Iv'e really only ever scratched the surface on what it can do though.

Other than that I'm stuck in the 20th century with the old panel finder and Mues lod viewer...
