Rick Rawlings 138 Posted June 6, 2021 Stache, glad you re-linked those videos, those were awesome! The first one was very atmospheric with the rain and down-on-the deck target-rich environment and the second one went crazy when that Albatros dove on you. Nobody collided in that big fight? And as the cherry on top, you managed to just miss the fence when you crashed, which is probably why you lived!
carrick58 23 Posted June 6, 2021 (edited) Got jumped by high flyers The Barons Bunch. made a firing pass then had a chap drop om my tail couldn't shake so ran for it. Edited June 6, 2021 by carrick58
Rick Rawlings 138 Posted June 6, 2021 Nice one, carrick58, we've been seeing a lot of verticality, flights way above or way below. You'd think both sides could get on the same page if they really want to have a war...

catch 81 Posted June 6, 2021 Now this is a strange one. Unless divine providence intervened, I can only put it down to my PC acting up a bit, ie to say, I was unable to take pics in-game with nvidia shadowplay? The "pics" in the below footage were snapped from video. And even that was playing up a bit. Some clips went into a "world of final fantasy" folder. So perhaps it was divine providence after all? In any event, I should have died thus bringing my ignominious career in this challenge to an end. I will leave the final decision to Rick que sera sera. In short, "Spiv" embarks on a scramble, crashes fatally, and is resurrected.
TROOPER117 146 Posted June 6, 2021 Catch, you obviously managed to climb out of the wreck and sprint clear... well done that man

If not, you should probably be ok. I think sometimes crashed tend to look worse than they are, and sometimes you just get lucky! If anyone wants to raise an objection, please pm me but otherwise, as long as you didn't get the above message and you haven't accidentally checked invulnerable pilot in the workshop, you're good to go. It certainly seems like running into a parked plane at the end of a landing rollout would be survivable! As for the videos, for me anything that happens in runtime gets sent into the Combat Flight Simulator folder while anything in the shell (campaign screen, mission debriefs, claims screen, etc.) goes to the World of Final Fantasy folder as you mentioned. I don't think I've ever tried taking screenshots using shadowplay. I will either just use the print screen key or grab them afterwards during playback. TROOPER117 146 Posted June 6, 2021 Well done to everyone for this first week in 'our war'... most are still alive and kicking, despite mishaps and mayhem. Hope we all make it through the next week!
Baldric 42 Posted June 6, 2021 Keep at it gents. Lot's of good reading over the week. I'll attempt to fly a few more missions this week...for some reason I was inclined to limit myself to 3 per week so I must have misunderstood/misread something in the instructions lol. I think Rick stated that we could do 3 minimum, or up to 7 maximum per week if I remember right...
mandrews_2 11 Posted June 6, 2021 19 November 1917. In which, Stephen Edwards V gets back in the saddle and gets his first CONFIRMED kill As predicted, the CO sent me back up the next day (no rest for the weary). He at least let me sleep late by assigning me to an afternoon patrol. Both A and B flights were sent up to protect our airfield at Boisy-St.Martin. It was raining and I fully expected it to be a non-event; but as we approached our patrol aream 'McScotch', who was leading our flight B, spotted trouble and turned on a group of Alb DVa's. We were mixing it up with them, when another group of Albs and A flight joined party. Anyway, after finishing one Lewis drum, I reloaded and managed to turn on one of them. I let go with a long burst, saw several hits, and he went down out of control. A couple of minutes later, I did the same again and put in for two. 'Mick' said the second one pulled out near the ground; but he saw the first one go down. In total there were 6 Albs downed by 40 Sqn. It was a costly mission however. Sgts Channing and Farmer were both killed, and 5 others had put down with damaged craft. Mine even had a few holes in it.

Rick Rawlings 138 Posted June 6, 2021 Congratulations, mandrews_2, here's to many more confirmed! carrick58, that's one more pass than I feel comfortable making, but I usually do it too! Yes, yes, anywhere from 3-7 per week is the prescription! You can catch up if you'd like. The hard limit at the end is 22.
carrick58 23 Posted June 6, 2021 Lt Cecil Saidwick ( Still trying to get caught up on missions } Patrol our side of lines , 40 Sqn ran into a flock of Huns V struts and Pfalz D-III. Had a hard time keeping them clear of my tail finally as the fight went to the deck I bagged one. Actually Forced down Fuel leak/ prop stopped. hit in NML
Mfair621 34 Posted June 6, 2021 Ok. Here it is a rainy Sunday afternoon so I think I’ll get a jump on the week. Jethro “Tull” Bodine Mission 8 Patrol enemy lines. MacScotch spied 3 two seaters headed over the lines and we gave chase. They turned and headed east and we caught them close to Douai. As Bodine was lining up on one, he felt a bang and heard someone going down. “Who hit who” he thought. As he tried to climb, his machine would not. He turned around and realized one of his flight had collided with him. He had half of his right elevator and a hole in his rudder you could poke yer head through! He headed west and luckily did not meet any hostile. Mission 9 Scramble in the most horrid weather. Puffs of Archie showed the enemy way up high so Jethro headed east climbing. He came out of the clouds at 12000’ and circled. Just when he turned home in disgust, 3 came out of the clouds above him. As he pulled up to take a shoot he was hit by a barrage of machine gun fire that holed his windscreen. One shot cracked his goggles and creased his noggin ever so slightly. He dove out went home. Mission 10 Escort RE’s to bomb army camp. After crossing the lines, 8 Albatros were coming to meet them. This is where everything went to hell. As Bodine picked a victim he was hit by a very well placed burst. He rolled out scanning the skies. “Controls still good he thought”. He is hit with another burst and dives west. As the lines approach, his adversaries seem to give up and he breathes a sigh of relief. He starts to climb with sloppy controls when he realizes he has been hit in the tank and his engine is kaput! “Got to find a place to land!” As he searches for a piece of unobstructed ground, tracers again surround him! He tries to maneuver but with his slow speed and shot up craft, it rolls onto its side and crashes in NML. So ends the career of a promising pilot. Well gents, it just goes to show you. No matter how well you are today, tomorrow is a different day. I’m not sure what Jasta it was. Low light and flying defence, I never got a good look at one. This had been a blast Rick. Many Thanks! I’ll keep checking by to see how everyone is doing.
catch 81 Posted June 6, 2021 9 hours ago, Rick Rawlings said: Did you get the "Sadly, you have died in combat" Nope. I was expecting it though. But after pressing ctrl+q to end the mission it went to the welcome screen for the next day. Didn't even say I was wounded? I think I may have entered The Twilight Zone and thrust into some kind of alternate universe after my near death experience in the earlier mission. Perhaps I'm a ghost. It's really spooky and freaking me out .... or it's just your everyday computer glitsch. I don't have pilot set to cannot die either. I think I may bow out and see my shrink. If I had one. Rick Rawlings 138 Posted June 7, 2021 (edited) carrick58, you always manage to get these great dynamic pictures that look like they actually could have be taken in the middle of combat! Oh no, MFair! You were off to such a rocking start! catch, you're good. Like I said, that crash sounds pretty survivable anyway! Here's what things look like at the end of week 1: Couple quality of life requests for old Rick Rawlings: Please answer all questions other than your name and the how did you die one numerically. Please be careful to enter 0 and not the letter o. Please don't do the math, the spreadsheet should do that. TROOPER117, I am guessing you did not get 40 kills for three sorties? If you should die somewhere along the way, it would be helpful if you would complete the survey once at the end of each of the next two weeks so I don't have to transfer the data. Everyone try to hang in there! Good luck! Edited June 7, 2021 by Rick Rawlings
Stache 10 Posted June 7, 2021 (edited) Great results to all. Keep up the good work. It is just me.... I have been running into a lot of German fighters hanging out well behind enemy lines. I do not believe this was as common on previous incarnations of WOFF. I thought the Germans mainly stayed on their side of the lines except when escorting. Mission 8 Another crazy furball, spent the first part just trying to keep them DV's off my tail. Managed to do so, plane got a bit shot up but managed a victory Mission 9 - Yet another big furball - least the weather was nicer. Reed had one he was working on stolen from me but still managed a victory at the end. Close call on landing, Reed landed the wrong way at an unfamiliar airfield almost had a head on collision. Mission 10 - This was different - out flight was following some two seaters heading home. When our flight leader got close he did a 180 and went after something way behind us. I stayed with the leader while the rest of the flight carried on. Our flight leader eventually found his prey and shot it down. Reed spotted another two seater and went after it. Big mistake - Reed as severely wounded at altitude. Reed broke off immediately and managed to get the plane on the ground just inside our lines before passing out. But Reed is back in the fray after 24 days in the hospital. Edited June 7, 2021 by Stache Hey !!! I was able to edit this one!!
Rick Rawlings 138 Posted June 7, 2021 Wow! 24 days in the hospital is one of the longest stats I have seen. Those observers are dynamite, as you may seem in an upcoming mission of mine. I'll check out the videos in a bit here...

Rick Rawlings 138 Posted June 7, 2021 Stache, just got done watching the videos, great stuff! I think like in the first one where all the weather effects are active at the same time, this game can't be beat. The second one could be called "It's Raining Albatroses" . And the last one, great job finding a road on the edge of No Man's Land! I guess we'll see you in 1918!
