  4. What? A Rick Rawlings Challenge?

Hi Guys, Playing a bit of catch up here. Glad there are still some flyboys up there slugging it out. Sorry to report that Reed will be one of those lost in action. Mission 11 - No video This was a scramble from the airfield - while we got up to altitude to find some two seaters, just a we were getting close, they disappeared into some clouds and our flight leader just took us back home Mission 12 This was a recon mission just across the lines. We never did find the flight we were supposed to escort and our flight leader took us home again. I spotted some two seaters up high, started heading east and climbing. I lost the first set of EA, but then spotted another. When I got close I saw there were five of them. Was not real keen about taking on five by myself, followed them for a bit, then spotted another behind me to the west. This was a lone straggler - perfect - I swung around and attack, shooting off an upper wing. Was awarded the DFC and a victory Mission 13 Another recon - lousy weather never spotted any EA. This was in full winter with some weather video. Mission 14. An escort mission behind enemy lines. Weather was a better - managed to link up with two seaters. We were jumped by a lot of DVa's . Managed to get on one and shot him up, but then others shot me up. Wounded I dove and headed west with the EA taking pot shots here and there. Got close to the lines but was loosing blood fast and had to set her down quickly. Which Reed did, but being in the middle of no mans land, help was unable to arrive quickly enough. Carry on the good fight!

Great Video Catch - Congratulations on your first confirmed victory. Trooper - Sorry to hear of Pixie's demise... oh so close.
  6. What? A Rick Rawlings Challenge?

That was a hot landing, though the fields. Glad you managed to not find a fence and survived. Them two seaters are dangerous to a pilots health.

Great results to all. Keep up the good work. It is just me.... I have been running into a lot of German fighters hanging out well behind enemy lines. I do not believe this was as common on previous incarnations of WOFF. I thought the Germans mainly stayed on their side of the lines except when escorting. Mission 8 Another crazy furball, spent the first part just trying to keep them DV's off my tail. Managed to do so, plane got a bit shot up but managed a victory Mission 9 - Yet another big furball - least the weather was nicer. Reed had one he was working on stolen from me but still managed a victory at the end. Close call on landing, Reed landed the wrong way at an unfamiliar airfield almost had a head on collision. Mission 10 - This was different - out flight was following some two seaters heading home. When our flight leader got close he did a 180 and went after something way behind us. I stayed with the leader while the rest of the flight carried on. Our flight leader eventually found his prey and shot it down. Reed spotted another two seater and went after it. Big mistake - Reed as severely wounded at altitude. Reed broke off immediately and managed to get the plane on the ground just inside our lines before passing out. But Reed is back in the fray after 24 days in the hospital.

Reed's last missions of week one. 5th Mission was airfield attack, but spent more time going after DV's, of which Reed. managed to bag two. 6th Mission - no video - was an escort mission - no enemy sighted. 7th Mission - attacked shortly after forming up. DV damaged the radiator. Managed to hang around long enough to put a few hits on an enemy just before it crashed, earning a seventh Victory. The almost bought the farm, trying to put her down, just missing some trees, but coming down hard. Still was able to walk away unscathed. 10. What? A Rick Rawlings Challenge?

Nice flight Trooper - that first Alb flew on for quite a while with only half an upper wing. Harry - was surprised you were left alone for that long going after that railyard. Reed too survived week one with yet another close call on mission 7. Videos will be posted later.

Very nice dead stick landing Rick, you nailed it. Good Shooting also, got that pilot with only a few rounds.

Reed's Fourth Mission. A beautiful sunrise mission with great clouds! Managed another victory, Reed's first two seater. Reed had a second lined up but realized he was alone and decided to let it be and go find his buddies. Which he did, but then lost them again as they dove on some other planes. Reed decided to head for home.
  13. What? A Rick Rawlings Challenge?

Reed's second mission (sorry I was off a day) - made up for it on the third mission. A sour day but managed another victory and was awarded the Military Cross. Reed's third mission - managed another victory and a second landing my chief was happy with.
  14. What? A Rick Rawlings Challenge?

Reed managed to survive his first mission but just barely with a crashed landing Southwest of Arras. Did manage to get one victory and put holes in a couple others. Next time he will not be pressing his luck following an enemy down low over the lines.

This time around I have chosen to honor a real WW1 Pilot. Reed Gresham Landis While his action with RFC 40 did not start until May of 1918, I think the scope of this challenge is close enough. In Reed's short stint with RFC 40 he achieved 12 victories and became squadron commander before joining the US Air Corp in September 1918 as commander of the 25th Aero Squadron. Unfortunately the 25th was not assigned enough aircraft, before hostilities ceased, to become truly operational. The current U.S. Air Force 25th Space Ranger Squadron traces its linage back to Landis and the 25th Aero Squadron. Reed was awarded the British Distinguished Flying Cross and the USA Distinguished Service Cross Reed went on to serve in WWII, achieving the rank of Colonel. Here are few links with more information on Colonel Landis https://encyclopediaofarkansas.net/entries/reed-gresham-landis-8995/ http://www.theaerodrome.com/aces/usa/landis.php https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reed_G._Landis https://www.jstor.org/stable/40022467?seq=1
  16. Very Nice. Sounded like you needed to reload the Lewis for the second one.

WooHoo! Count me in. Lets see if I can last a little longer than I did in the last one. Thanks Rick.
  18. Hi Robert, I used to under WOFF PE - then had to do some reinstalls and did not put it back in place. Have not yet started using it in BH&H2 want to get the feel without mods first. But I do plan to use it again at some point. Regards,
  19. Hi

Hi Bagpipe, What you wrote is absolutely so true. The environment is superb. Welcome to the fray.
  20. Hi, As always great videos. May I ask what these background tasks were? Regards,
  21. HI, Puffman, In this case my Bodnars are not going though Joystick Gremlin, they are native windows. And I am normally not using the Bodnars for WOFF. But as Pol mentioned yes you should use the bodnar software to assign unique names to the cards. http://www.leobodnar.com/shop/index.php?main_page=page&id=5 This is outside of my scope but WOFF uses older versions of the gaming device interface and does not like controllers with the same name, which is what the Bodnars have by default. I have the same issue with my dual Logitech Quadrants that have the same name and I can only use one in WOFF. (and there is no software to change the device names on these). P.S. WOFF does not recognize more than 10 gaming controllers and only recognizes 32 buttons per controller. And if you do have a device that is presenting more than 32 buttons, I have seen that cause issues. My VKB joystick show up with 128 buttons though I think it really has only 28. There is probably some way to force it so show only 28 in the VBK software, but I've not taken time to figure it out. Pol, please correct anything I have wrong. I am not professing to be a subject matter expert, I am just going by observations. I replay later on Joystick Gremling and VJoy. Regards
  22. Hi, thought I would check before I tried setting the multimonitor option to Centre - does the Multi Monitor Option work in BHaH II ?
  23. Multi Monitor Option

Correct epower - this only show up if multiple monitors are in use. Thank Pol, Yes, I will continue to use the default - LEFT. In the past, trying to use the Centre has messed up the WOFF install - requiring a reinstall. I am not sure I ever tried it under WOFF PE. But with BHaH II being an easier install, maybe I will give it another shot when I feel brave.
  24. The TAC will also display the Instructor Mode Information (CTRL-T) which provides some indication with what the games expects you to be doing (not that this has to be done). As I gained more experience I found I did not like the RADAR map of the TAC - so I set the BGSCALE to .01 (IIRC) which effectively hides the RADAR screen but allows the INSTRUCTOR mode info to be displayed.
  25. Hi Puffman, Perhaps OBD will offer other suggestions, in the mean time, Here are my observations. My Setup - Which consists of two BUO36x, two BBI-32, two Saitek quadrants, VKB Space Gunfighter Stick, Thrustmaster TPR pedals, two Thrustmaster MFD panels. No I do not use all of these with WOFF, I do not normally use the bodnars at all with WOFF. I also use Joystick gremlin and vjoy. Naturally this makes a mess of the Woffkeys.XCA file. 1) On initial setup, I do not try to use Woffkeys program to remove all the default mappings, I manually edit Woffkeys.XCA and remove all the default axis and button mappings. I have played with this a little and it appears I can map rudders to any axis on the BUO36x. However it does seem a bit off, I would suggest trying to manually set it in the file. - BE SURE TO MAKE A COPY BEFORE DOING SO. I also use NOTEPAD++ to edit the file. Here it is set to the Y-Axis ( Axis 2) <Device Type="Button Box Interface 2"> <GameMode Name="Player"> <Axis ID="X" Action="" Scale="64" Nullzone="36" FriendlyDesc="Bank Control (Ailerons)" Category="AircraftControl" P4Use="y"/> <Axis ID="Y" Action="Set_Yaw" Scale="6" Nullzone="3" FriendlyDesc="Yaw Control (Rudder)" Category="AirCraftControl" P4Use="y"/> <Axis ID="Throttle" Action="" Scale="127" Nullzone="1" FriendlyDesc="Throttle" Category="AircraftControl" P4Use="y"/> <Axis ID="Rudder" Action="" Scale="6" Nullzone="3" FriendlyDesc="Yaw Control (Rudder)" Category="AircraftControl" P4Use="y"/> <Pov ID="1" Action="HeadPov" FriendlyDesc="Head POV" Category="ViewControl" P4Use="y"/> <Button ID="1" Action="" FriendlyDesc="" Category="WeaponControl" P4Use="y"/> <Button ID="2" Action="" FriendlyDesc="" Category="WeaponControl" P4Use="y"/> <Button ID="3" Action="" FriendlyDesc="" Category="WeaponControl" P4Use="y"/> <Button ID="4" Action="" FriendlyDesc="" Category="WeaponControl" P4Use="y"/> <Button ID="5" Action="" FriendlyDesc="" Category="AircraftControl" P4Use="y"/> <Button ID="6" Action="" FriendlyDesc="" Category="AircraftControl" P4Use="y"/> <Button ID="7" Action="" FriendlyDesc="" Category="CombatControl" P4Use="y"/> <Button ID="8" Action="" FriendlyDesc="" Category="CombatControl" P4Use="y"/> </GameMode> Regards
