The ODS Dev team is proud to announce the second official release of Operation Desert Storm: 30th Anniversary Edition, now reaching version 0.9.5.
Six months had passed since the first release of January 17th 2021, six months in which the development team did not rest, producing a wealth of tweaks, bug fixes and exclusive, brand new additions to this comprehensive package. Unwanted bugs found their way in the January release, due to time constraints and the team wanting to meet the deadline in time for the 30th anniversary of this historic operation. Now we offer a much more refined and expanded experience, with quality of life improvements and welcome bonuses. Be sure to read the massive (albeit summarized) change log (Operation Desert Storm: 30th Anniversary Edition - Early Access) to learn more about all of the efforts that went into this new release.

The package is free for download to all official Modders and Subscribers of the site. Those whose 2021 6-month subscription plans expired have been granted access to the package at no extra cost. Users who acquired the mod via a 1-month subscription plan will have to renew it for access to this brand new release. CombatACE.com admins thank you for your support towards the monthly costs of the site.

Awesome stuff, guys!!! Man with my rig, I made x(76) aircraft strike package of which 48 were F-16's and the remaining were support aircraft and man the was heavy AAA's and SAM's, but the SEAD/JAMMING ESCORT x8 F-4G's and x4 EF-111's the threat was neutralized before we have arrived at the target, not to mention quite a few enemy aircraft that tried to intercept the strike package. Still, the x 16 F-15C's took care of that problem, lol. So, all in all, the FPS was smooth as butter.  Thanks, guys!!!

Thanks to you for playing it! We worked hard on the whole package, to find a compromise and a balance between quality and performance. We're glad to have achieved it.

I have an issue installing ODS. It comes up with an error saying 'Setup was unable to create the directory D:\SF2. Error 5, Access denied.

Now I did have SF installed on a HDD which was (D) but it failed and I had to get rid of it. I purchased SF (Windows 10 version) and the whole package, and installed every single one onto a new SSD... Drive letter (P)

How can I fix this?

It seems your operating system has no priviliged access to the folder where you have installed SF2. Make sure to point the installation path to your newly installed SF2 directory (thus on your SSD). Try to execute the ODS installer as administrator in your Windows OS, and make sure that any anti-virus software you may have is not interfering with the installer itself. I cannot think of anything else, a hundred of users had no issues with the installer, it appears to be working as intended.

The installer doesn't give me the option to change the install path.

Previous version apparently allowed it. I just noticed this is no longer the case for the latest installer. All I can suggest at this stage is that you remove Strike Fighters 2 fully with Revo Uninstaller, so that all registry keys of SF2 are removed. A clean installation on the SSD should work okay then, the ODS installer would find the new SF2 folder automatically.

I will try to update the package with a corrected installer in the coming days if possible.

***PLEASE HELP***

Dear developers of this fantastic mod. I am very sad as I just can't play the mod. Apparently, I did an OK installation as the.exe file located my SF2 folder in the right path. The problem just surges when I open the mod and I try to fly! I just simply can not load the game, this happens whenever I choose any plane to fly, the loading screen just remains black and kick me to the desktop irremediably.

I have to mention I have SF2 Fully Merged and windows 10 like most of the users.

I also couldn't find any "Read Me" file to sort out this sad issue.

I hope You can help me.

And thank You for your awesome job!

@Maverhec I'd like to help, but you gave very little details and I cannot understand what's going wrong. Does the game fail to load once you choose to fly? Are you able to navigate menu screens with no trouble?

I highly suggest that you update your video drivers to the latest, especially if you have a Nvidia video card. The mod does not work with Intel integrated graphics card.

Yes!! that happens exactly ". Does the game fail to load once you choose to fly?"  R=The game totally fails to load once I choose a Plane to fly whenever I'm on a single mission or whenever I load a campaign.

I also didn't have any trouble at all navigating through the menu screens, all menus can be navigated without trouble.

My graphic card is a Radeon R6 M34000X 2GB capable. I don know if the drivers are up to date though.

Thanks for your response!

I may be wrong, but isn't it a notebook graphics card? The mod won't work on most notebooks as their processors and graphics cards are low-end and won't meet basic requirements. The CPU may be your bottleneck more than the GPU.

Apart from updating video drivers (there are third-party software such as Driver Booster) you may want to reduce graphics options to the lowest details and resolution, and see if that improves anything. The mod is pretty heavy on resources, it's aimed at desktop PCs with more recent hardware.

Oh geez, yeah its a laptop. Its hard to hear that. But very reasonable, the same happened to me when I played GTA V it was playable but with very low performance....  Anyway I'll keep the game for when I can aford a new gaming PC. I even will turn the ISO file it into a DVD.

GREAT NEWS!! I am able to play the mod now. I just low my graph specs to medium and it is perfectly playable!!

Thank You Menrva for your kind support. 🙂

      Hello everyone,

I am  re-creating the posts after hte ideas came up about the name of proejcts and what it is about.  This project is to be known as  SF2 Avionics Community Pack (SF2:ACP for short), because the purpose of this projects is to create the assets for anyone to usse  for our mods, as well for customizing our SF2 installation.  You will need to put them into aircraft folder and customize the .ini   files, in order, for them to appear in-game.

This is what I find so enjoayble and I noticed that not many simulation does this.  This s project aims to bring the realistic, immersive expereicnes in cockpits with actual textures for radar scope, RWR, HUD, and any avionics that is currently moddable in SF2 and aircraft mods.

I will exlpain the limitation of SF2 engine, so we can get better pictures of what we can and can't do for now.  I said "for now, is becauuse I have the hope htat someday, somehow, someone manage to make it possible to make avioincs further moddable in SF2.

      1) Texture issues:  What can be done is chan ging radar scope texture.  But the problem is that, the radar symbols / lines colors can not be changed.  We are stuck with default green SF2 radar symbosl /lines / circles.  And eve with new textures, the radar lines / symbols/ shapes will be applied on top of it.  So it mean, if you have 'black line' on top of radar scope like A-4s as an exampe, the radar still overlap it.

Another issues is that, most of SF2 default aircraft does not have texture-able radar scope for 'turned off' radar, so it seem strange how CRT (texture) would suddenly show up when turnig radar on. I wished that the radar scope woudl be texture-able, so that it seem taht only radar lines / symbols / shapes would appear, therefore preserving the immersive experiences.

      2) Lighting, after attempting to use the actual colors of radar scope based on the pictures, as an example,  they usually show upup too bright comnpared ot another instructments / avionics in cockpit. So they need to be darken, in order to blend naturall in cockpits.  And another issue is radar colors of green, it need to be readable, therefore further darken the texture.  So they might will appear  darker compared to the photo.  (I am currenlty wokring on this part on both F-89s and A-4s radar scope and RWR new textures).

      3) Avionics DLLs, there are only two DLLs I believe, that we can use either one of Avionics DLL for early and modern aircraft.  But I still have the hope.  The reason why I have hope is because, I am part of the community that is modding Jane's series simulation.  That simulation is almost 30 years old and people still mods it.  It amazes me, therefore gives me hopes.

Besides the lmitation, it does not stop us from wanting to create the mods that would improve the experiences in avioincs.  What inspired me to do this, I was customizing SF2 installation for early cold war era (My favorite era), in Asia, midddle east, and other theatre, along with later cold war era, I noticed that there is always room of growth and improvement for cockpits.  That is when I came up the awy to improve F-89 series radar scope, as you can see it in another theatre abou Stary's F-89 cockpits.  Then here it is, SF2: Avionics Community Pack!

What would be great help if we can share the pictures and information on the avioinics for various planes, so we can get busy with the  avioniocs improvement.

If anyoneo have the requests for radar scope, or any avioinics improvement, it would be great help if the resources can be provided too.

The next posts will cover what I am doing with both F-89s and A-4s  gunsights, radar scope, and rwr, along with F-89's radar scope.

      DOWNLAOD: SF2 ACP v0.2

So I'am playing this strike fighters 2 black sea crisis addon and I believe I did everything right . The campaigns work for all factions except United States air force . When I select them and a specific squadron of aircraft and click on generate campaign ,the game just crashes to desktop . The same thing does not occur for Russian , ukrainian air force  and united States navy . What could I be missing here . ? For some reason , the USAF aircraft are easily flown in single mission scenarios . Like the F16 will fly in single missions but when I try to click on its campaign . The game just crashes .

      Hi,
a couple of months ago i discovered this gorgeous total conversion called "Yankee Air Pirate", and that the "REVAMP" edition for SF2 (the original one was for WOV) existed, and other awesome total conversions like "Drug Wars" and "Flight School" too, so i got ready to download them, but since i hadn't enough space at the time, i waited.
Now i come back on the website to find out all the links and pages about the revamp are gone, there's only the original ones for SF1 series.
Do anyone of you know why they're gone? Will they come back? They're maybe updating the mods?
      Thanks

      Hi everyone,
I recently got into weapon modding and wanted to edit some missiles.
I went for the Weapons Folder with the Weapons Editor, and some weapons were missing, even tho i can see them and equip them in-game.
I wanted to edit the AA-2D Atoll for my Su-22M3, but there's no AA-2 folder inside Weapons folder, nor inside plane folder, even tho the missile is equippable and i can see it/use it in-game.
Since there's no Atoll folder, i have no idea how is it possible for me to have it in-game, and even less i know on how am i supposed to edit it through Weapons Editor, since i can't select the folder.
I thought it may be a sort of "built-in-game" missile and for this reason not showing in weapons folder (idk i just made an hypothesis).
So i tried using the CAT Extractor, but seems like not working... no matter which CAT file i select, it says "error opening this .CAT file, no files can be extracted", how's that? How do i fix it? Am i doing something wrong?
Thank you in advance for helping me fixing all these issues or helping me find what i'm doing wrong

      Notes about the installer
Beware, the mod is available only in the ISO format. You can either mount it on a virtual drive, burn it on a DVD like in the good old days, or unzip it with 7-Zip or equivalent software.
The installer will automatically detect your installation of the required Strike Fighters 2 games by reading through the registry keys. Game folders that are copied from or manually moved from where they were originally installed are not supported. You need all three aforementioned Strike Fighters 2 games and they must be installed with ThirdWire's original installers, not manually copied from other sources nor moved elsewhere after installation to other folders or drives. If you do not meet any of these requirements, installation cannot proceed and you are on your own. If you install all required games properly, the installation of the mod will proceed correctly as intended. The installer then lets you choose where to install the mod folder; you can even install the mod on a different drive or partition than the one where Strike Fighters 2 is installed. No further user input nor manual edits after installation are ever required; the installer takes care of creating all proper links to your desired path for the mod folder. After installation is over, simply run the mod by using the created Desktop and/or Start Menu links.
If you have a previous version of the mod installed, please use the uninstaller to remove it completely. Clean installation is mandatory. You might want to make a backup of the Controls folder, so that you can easily restore your controller settings afterwards.

      Suggestions on common issues
Make sure that you are using your dedicated GPU. By default, Strike Fighters 2 usually selects the integrated GPU you may have on your CPU, which is much weaker in terms of VRAM. In case you have frequent crashes or black/missing textures, I highly suggest you download and install the DXVK graphics wrapper (x86 DLLs) into your Strike Fighters 2 game folder: https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk. You need a Vulkan-compatible GPU. The wrapper can greatly improve the experience with the mod. With DXVK I can play the mod on a mere Intel UHD 710, whereas without it the mod would always crash to desktop. Go to Sound and set Sound Channels to 32. We got reports that 16 is not enough and will cause crashes on some systems, due to the higher quality sounds included within the mod. The mod is pretty heavy for the game engine despite huge optimizations. Strike Fighters 2's engine is 32bit only and apparently does not manage VRAM properly; consecutive campaign missions might show black/missing textures on objects or cause crashes to desktop because the game does not release the occupied VRAM from the previous mission you played, thus the more missions are loaded consecutively, the more easily you may run out of memory. Set Ground Objects to Medium or Low, Horizon Distance to Near, and Shadows to Medium or Low. These are the most troubling settings. Avoid Unlimited settings as much as possible. If the mod used to work and suddenly crashes to desktop, updating or reinstalling video drivers should help. Make sure that DirectX June 2010 Redistributables are also installed, they are included inside the ISO disk image of the mod. Inside the mod folder, you'll find some extra text files. "(Coalition Order of Battle)" should be of your interest; the mod's terrain covers the entirety of Iraq, at the cost of not having all of Saudi Arabia; this means that a number of important units are based on airbases that are beyond the in-game playable area. With those units you always spawn near the target area, you'll never get to start from a runway nor to land on the assigned runway beyond the invisible wall. You have an entire list of the affected units in the aforementioned text file. By pressing ALT+N, the plane returns to base automatically. The mod is fully compatible with the Campaign Customizer and Mission Editor DLCs by ThirdWire. The Campaign Customizer might be an alternative way to experience those off map units I mentioned previously, since it assigns you to a random airbase of the in-game flyable area. Escort missions are often broken, this is not an issue of the mod, but a bug of the stock game; sometimes the AI flight you escort does not engage its target and keeps flying in a straight line instead of following waypoints, thus the trigger for mission success will never happen. Abandon the mission or retry it if the issue happens, sometimes it works. Pray for ThirdWire AKA Tsuyoshi Kawahito to work on a 64bit version of Strike Fighters 2, maybe even with support for DirectX 12. With that done, any out of memory issues should become an old memory.
