Broken link for "Downloads" on main WOFF website

Recommended Posts

After a very long hiatus I am getting back into WOFF and went ahead and purchased BH&H2. While looking over what's been changed and checking out the various web pages I noticed that on the main site https://www.overflandersfields.com/ , the nav button at the top of the screen for the Downloads section is broken. Looks like it tries to launch some sort of javascript but nothing happens.

I know that's not an earth shattering issue, but it does reflect poorly on a company when their homepage links are broken. I actually found a few other broken links throughout the main site while browsing around and I will try and list them out when I get a moment.

It works for me, if you click on the download it will take you to the WOFF site were the download is available.

I am having the same issue on both Chrome and Firefox. Some links work, some don't.

I actually tested it on both Chrome and Edge and on neither of them does it seem to work. @Burning Beard are you trying it from the main home page of https://overflandersfields.com?

For me, on either Chrome or Edge,  all the other nav buttons work fine as well as animate on mouseover but the Download one does nothing and in the bottom left side of my browser when i mouse over the buttons and usually see the url that it will take me to, when I mouse over the Downloads button I just see it say "javascript;" which would seem to indicate that the javacode that forwards the browser to the correct page is perhaps broken.

Here is the source for that button:

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

<div class="xr_ar xr_nb0">
  <a href="javascript:;" aria-haspopup="true" onclick="return(xr_nn());">
  <img class="xr_rn_ xr_rnsp_ xr_ap" src="index_html_files/53181.png" alt="Downloads" title="" style="left:620px;top:0px;width:120px;height:35px;"/>
  <img class="xr_rn_ xr_rnsp_ xr_ap xr_ro xr_ro0 xr_tt3" src="index_html_files/52805.png" alt="Downloads" title="" onmousemove="xr_mo(this,108)" style="left:623px;top:2px;width:114px;height:27px;"/>
  </a>
  <div class="xr_nb2 xr_nb5 xr_smp620_-740" style="left:620px; top:35px; min-width:120px;">
  <ul class="xr_nb4">
  <li><a href="downloads-woffbhahii.html">WOFF Between Heaven &amp; Hell II</a>
  </li>
  </ul>
  </div>
  </div>

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

If I manually paste downloads-woffbhahii.html into either browser it does work, but clicking the button does nothing. I am not up on my java to diagnose where the problem lies though.

Did a bit more testing, this time with my Android (Pixel 7 Pro) phone and browser app.

When launched from my phone, the Android version of Chrome in mobile mode opened the page but the mobile version of the page shows a drop down style nav bar instead of the animated buttons. When I select the Desktop site, which loads the page as it looks on a Windows browser, i get the same issue as reported. All the other buttons launch their respective pages, but the Download button does not work.

I tried on both pages, the one you have shown and the one that is exclusive to WOFF.  The download button looked exactly like the one you posted, then I clicked the grey dropdown and it directed me to the download page which I think is on the WOFF site.

Thought I'd pop in here with my own two (three?) cents on the topic gents - it seems that the function of that download button is being interpreted differently. In other words, when you hover over the download button with your mouse, and that grey dropdown window appears that reads "WOFF Between Heaven & Hell II" -- make sure to scroll down with your pointer to that window, and then to click on the dropdown window itself. Clicking on the main button that says "Downloads" does nothing and may look, in some browsers, like a JavaScript error or broken link.

Edit: @BB, only saw now that your post explains the confusion but I'll leave my post up too.

By the way, the "Downloads" button was probably less confusing before, when there were three dropdown options present, one for the latest patch to BH&H2, another for the latest patch for WoFF UE, and a third for the latest patch for the WoFF PE addon - the latter two patches have now gone into the annals of WoFF history. :salute:

Cheers all & happy clicking,

:smile:

Yup, i see the issue now, I never realized that when i moused over the button that the text that appeared below the button was actually part of a selectable dropdown list. That seems a bit weird since there is only one option. I think a more elegant approach would be to just do as the other buttons do and simply launch the new page.

Pretty sure if I and DoctorQuest each thought the link was broken and didnt notice the drop down, others have/will as well.

At least now, I know what is going on.

Ok. I get it. Not really an intuitive drop-down with only one entry :)

Thanks much for the clarification!

Yes you must choose the product that pops up, that's the point of that appearing of course.  Yes we used to have a few which were removed.  It has been left in the same mode so more can be added easily and it's in line with the downloads button on our other website www.WingsOverTheReich.com

We do not have a webmaster, we do 58 jobs each unfortunately ;).

Works in all browsers here for me ( I test with all of them).

Of course if you have any javascript blockers, or anything that interferes it could cause issues.  For example if you use Noscript addon (which blocks java scripts) so initially you will have to allow all WOFF links but then they work fine.

However given the confusion I'll see if I can amend that downloads for now to go straight there on WOFF pages anyway.

If I came off as overly critical I sincerely apologize. I do sympathize with the challenges of a small business.

Thanks.
