Hello everyone!

I have two thigns to report today:

Firstly, my apologize, I did not realize that I accidentaly set "Had lead sight" to true for ADs / A-1s Skyradier series.  It is fixed for next version of SF - CAP.  It also includes the fixes for the gunsight missing a piece of reticle for gunsight.

By the way, the work on Wings Over Korea F4U-4s and F4U-5s are now completed, including the fixes for F4U-5NL radar being upside.

Here is screenshot of F4U-4 / 4B, F4U-5, and F4U-6 (AU-1) with Mark 8 gunsight:

Hello everyonoe!

The work on F-82G Twin Mustang was a quite challenging due to the challenging research looking for hte picture of the radar itself.

What I learned is that F-82G carries the same radar used in P-61 known as SCR-720C18.

By luck, found this gem; the pictures of P-61 radar scope!

th.jpg?ex=6825d330&is=682481b0&hm=77f194b25ee5f4811e10764443954503aaa90c6689578c78ce5f7741fcf57d1c&=

I noticed that it looks simliar to An/APS-4 radar used in AD-2.

After creating the textures for the radar of F_82G while implementing the K14 / K-14B gunsights, it works great in SF2.  This is from Wings Over Korea:

(NOTE:  There is no radar scope in F-82G cockpit, so you will need to use radar windows to view the radar.)

Hello everyone!

I am currently woorking on F2H Banshee series, starting with Wrench (V2K).  From what I have learned; F2H-2 / 3 / 4 uses AN/APG-30 radar ranging for Mark 8 Mod 0.  What i find so interesting iis how F2H's gunsight have two systems in it, one for fixed and anotehr for gyro (computing lead sight), using the same Mark 8 sight, with Mark 6 Mod 0 FCS.

And based onthis image:bs29.jpg

You can see, the refelctor glass is rather tall and wide, almost reaching the top of cockpit frame.  The Mark 8 is 150 MILs sight, so it makes sense.  however with the placeholder cockpit have refelctor galss too short for Mark 8 sight.  To solve this, I removed the reflector galss, it works well with Mark 8 gunsight.

NOTE:  The depressed fixed sight for rockets and bombs are included too.

Here is screenshot of F2H-2 (V2K):

Hello everyone!

The work on Wrench (Razbam) F2H-2 / 3 / 4have been completed now.  In this projects, I learned how to edit the cockpit by moving or hide certain objects.  With that, I am able to fix two things:

- Move the 'reflector box" a bit forward, so the instrument / radar can be seen better.
- Removed the reflector glass and applied Reflector glass by HUD method (Since there is no texture assigned to the canopy glass front of cockpit.)

Here is F2H-2 screenshots:

img00030.JPG?ex=68299351&is=682841d1&hm=05f6356b15bb516c8cfd691d51954d052266aacbab1651b63c424356feda8b3f&=

What I have researched from flight manual and online about F2H-3 (AN/APQ-51) and F2H-4 (AN/APG-37) FCS and radars.  What I have experienced from the flight manuals;  The USA combat aircraft's flight manual does not always have information on FCS / radar easily available, they are usually in separated manuals.  So therefore, the information can be vague often.  Therefore, I am required to research and connect the dots, especially do an educated guesses with the missing puzzles pieces (Information / data / pictures).

Anyway, I found the picture from flight manual, which appears to be An/APQ-41 radar (F2H-3)

This is interesting part, one of aircraft that uses Hughes FCS (E-10) and An/APG-37.  The information and pictures of Hughes E-10 FCS + AN/APG-37 radar scope is quite challenging to find.  So based on what makes sense, I am using the texture based on MG-4 FCS + AN/APG-37 used by F-86K.

Yes, I am workiong on two versions of F2Hs;  F2H-2 made by V2K which is freeware and another is Razbam's F2H-2 / 3 / 4 (Payware).

NOTE:  SF - CAP overhaul for Razbam cockpit does not have .LOD files in cockpit folder, so it mean anyone who want Razbam overhaulo will require to have original Razbam files.

Hello everyone!  Finaly got to finish working on the radar texture for F3H-2 / 4 / 5Demon.  F3H-2 radar (AN/APG-51B) was the most challenging part, esepcaily with the texture around the radar scope.  I hope it looks okay now.

Here is screenshot of F3H-2 / 3 / 4 cockpit with new gunsight (mark 11 Mod 3):

img00003.JPG?ex=682c7967&is=682b27e7&hm=3a05ecbca05d8e4b7d3b1053e1adb572d8ef572a0f4a4455f6b594f15da70e91&=

The radar texture are based on F3H-2 / 3M / 3N flight manual:

NOTE_0_-_C.png?ex=682c7a48&is=682b28c8&hm=e67a014f83c2f5e3fb8765b10d3674da964f1b05282595db87d518e2716e4223&=

Finally, F2H-3's radar (AN/APQ-41), after studying the pattern of the radar scope color among another aircraft such as ADs, F3Hs, F3D, and other, and due to not having the actual pictures of radar scope, I believe that the dark orange color for radar scope background is more accurate theoretically.

Hello everyone!

I am currently working on MiG-15 / 17/ 19 projects and it have been a very eye-opening research with theories.  The detailed information are mostly in Russian, so it is quite hard to find exactly what I seek for.

While looking at the gunsight of ASP-3N, and wondered where it came from, which lead to ASP-1N, then eventually ASP-1, then to my huge jaw-dropping surprises.  Not only I learned that ASP-1 came from Ferranti Mark IID gunsight, same thing with K-14 gunsight.  So both came from Mark IID gyroscopic gunsight.

While studying the gunsight of Soviet of WWII and post war, the gunsight used on La-9 and  earlier, along with another warplane uses PBP-1 gunsight.  PBP stands for Pritsel Bortovoy Pryamoy, which means "Onboard Direct Sight".  The ASP series gunsight, in other hand, stands for Avtomaticheskiy Strelkovyy Pritsel, which means "Automatic Firing Sight".

ASP-1 was mounted in La-11, while ASP-1N in early MiG-15.  Then later, around early 1950s I believe, MiG-15 upgrade to ASP-3N while MiG-15Bis use that gunsight.  (NOTE: I also read from various sources that initially MIG-15 did not have mirror until later, probably the same time when they get upgraded with ASP-3N).

By the way, I have a theory that ASP-1 does have gyroscopic sight because, as stated that it came from Mark IID gunsight.  BUT, there is one thing I notice that is major different from both Mark IID and K-14:

K-14 and Mark IID had two 'units' of sight box together, making it possible to change the different modes, such as FIXED sight only, GYRO sight only, or both sights at the same time.  ASP-1, in other hand, noticed the sight unit, have one box.  So in theory, this means it can only either display both fixed and gyro (ideally used for AA mode), or both 'fixed' and gyro being fixed for air to ground.

image.png?ex=682fcd3c&is=682e7bbc&hm=0002ebd520f08db5c711fd53ef9c961e14be5707b89ea1193f47448b36ddece7&=

Then I found this manual, which but unfortunately I do not know the language of Russian.  So I use two different AIs to go through it with me. I do realize AIs at this moment is not perfect, can make mistakes.  This is precisely why I use two different AI to clarify the information.

From what I learned, it confirmed that the gunsight of ASP-3N can only disable the fixed circle and moving gyro sight for AA mode, and fixed both 'fixed' and 'gyro' sight for air to ground, just as way I thought about ASP-1.

Why I think, in theory, that ASP-1 onward have gyroscopic culpability gyroscopic? Because not only the name ASP implies it, it makes sense when I look at this way:  During WWII and after war, Soviets was known to reverse engineer various technologies of western from avionics to missiles, so it would not be a surprise if they manage to have a working gyroscopic sight from Mark IID gunsight.

(NOTE:  If someone have a solid evidence that ASP-1 / 1N / 3N/ 4N wasn't gyroscopic sight, I will fix it in this projects.)

Next, here are the images of ASP-1N and ASP-3N

NOTE: I made a mistake with the gunsight size of ASP-3N.  Before, it was 62.5, then did deep digging and doing the math, turns out it is 61.09 radius MILs, and 122 MILs diameter.  The ASP-1N's fixed circle is 70 MILs, based on Mark IID gunsight while ASP-3N's circle is 122 MILs.

Hello everyone!

It have been a while since I have posted; It have been quite busy week and I have been spending a lot of time researching on the MiG-9s / 15s / 17s/ 19s, as well Chinese J-5s, J-6s, Q-5s, and both Czech and Poland built MiG-15s / 17s / 19s.

I want to talk about the MiG-9s, 15s, and 17s.  I have completed the work on the Wings over Korea MiG-15 / 15bis, as well add-on MiG-9 using Stray's excellent MiG-9 cockpit and crafted new PBP-1A gunsight for it.

For MiG-17, please keep in mind, my information may be incorrect.  Most of manual and research I do, especially with great help from great friend (Thank you Stavka5 for great help with the manuals and eBooks!), while using various AI to translate the manuals and eBooks written in Russian and summarizing them in English.

One of very interesting thing about the gunsight known as ASP-4N, used by MIG-1F / 7P / PF / PM (PFU), and according to the manual, it is known as ASP-3NM.  From the past experience seeing various of aircraft, avionics, and equipment names, it does not surprise me that this gunsight, in my theory, have multi name as ASP-3NM / ASP-4N. However, to avoid the confusion, I will refer it as ASP-4N.

Anyway, here is the table based on research:

Screenshot_2025-05-30_221641.png?ex=683b031a&is=6839b19a&hm=164bc8aae3692eb414372c2a5da50cbd5a5354a351549a2aa414a2c586d67973&=

The ASP-3N gunsight have been updated after going through the flight manuals, then I realized that the diamond part of the gunsight, seems like it came from ASP-1N.  Therefore the diamond from ASP-1N is used for ASP-3N and ASP-4N:

NOTE: In SF2, SF2, we can not move around the vview, we are stuck in one spot while padding around. Therefore, for workaround, the hoods is moved a bit forward, for the better view of the radar and instruments.

The MiG-19s are being worked on at this moment.

Hello everyone!

It have been very fun experimenting with the accessibility option for AAMs for Soviet aircraft.  I have been wondering 'what would have Soviet done if they add firing cue visually to the ASP-4N" of MiG-17PM (Also known as MiG-17FPU)?

This is practical and simple solution in Soviet style:

Cyrillic for "Radar lock on target" and "Ready to fire / In Range", here is note:

Quote

ACQUISITION (RADAR LOCK ON TARGET)
Zakhvat (LOCK / CAPTURE)
Захват
З

---------------------------------

READY TO FIRE / IN RANGE
Gotov
Готов
Г

Here is screenshot of MiG-19PFU with optional accessibility feature:

NOTE:  In missile only aircraft, the fixed and gyro sight are fixed on reflector.

Very, very interesting, AAM Mark is ПР (Пуск Разрешен/Launch permitted), Although this was unlikely to be the case on planes in the 60s

ПР (Пуск Разрешен) came with the MiG-29, Su-27 fighter families. The earlier radars had IIRC a lamp that gave the signal "lock on" and "ready to fire".

Edit:

The following photo is taken from an east german book. Point 3 in the diagram is the "green lamp", i mentioned.

Bild2068.thumb.jpg.0195f5cb1cbe37c76687dd6b733e32e4.jpg

The same book said, that in the Radar screen of the MiG-21 the signal Пуск was readable, when the target was in weapon range.

Thank you for the information!  Can I ask, which one carries the early K-5 (AA-1 / RS-1U) Beam riding AAM?

Thanks for the great information! Unfortunately, I can’t add lamps to the cockpits, so I’m focusing on HUD editing instead. Your input gave me an idea, though—MiG-17s and MiG-19s could feature earlier, more primitive firing cues, while the MiG-21s could have Cyrillic displays.

Thiss reflect the technological evolution of gunsight systems. This stays in the period-plausible, blending seamlessly with the era’s analog avionics for an immersive experience.

UPDATE:  It turns out that the Stary's MIG-17P / PU cockpit does have lamp when missile have lock on target:

img00021

That is great to have!  I still will include the features for reflector (firing cue) for anyoen who still want it though.  At least, I realize tthe lamp is there.

Cheers!

That is noted, thank you for excellent feedback, it helps! I am reserving the Cyrillic for MiG-21s and later MiGs.  For MiG-17s and 19s, I am using symbol, more primitive version.  Here is what I came up with for MIG-17s:

NOTE: When creating ASP-3N / 4N gunsight, I noticed how diamond sight aligns with the specific dots / symbols around the fixed sight.  That is where the 'firing cue" symbols is aligned with too.

Hello everyone!

It have been very productive day working on MiG-19s projects.  I am very thrilled to inform you that the system for radar gun of MiG-9P works flawlessly, based on the codes from F-4S avionics.ini.

Here is image of ASP-5N gunsight:

Yes, MiG-21PF Used K-5M as a alternate load out only (IRM as main load out).

View File SF2 Avionics Community Pack (SF2: ACP) - Beta
      ----------------------------------------------------------
STRIKE FIGHTER 2: AVIONICS COMMUNITY PACK (SF2: ACP) v0.4
      ----------------------------------------------------------
Welcome to SF2: ACP first release of alpha.  Before I explain about the pack, I want to express big thank to the wonderful communities and modders of Combatace and Combat Flight Sim Tavern (Discord), including Thirdwire for the simulation.
You all are the reasons why this pack exists.  I want to use the passions to improve SF2 into next level with avionics.
This requires a lot of research, reading flight manual, and tons of tweaking the texture, and avionics and cockpit ini, along with countless of testing in-flight in SF2.
The mods is not perfect, we do our best with the mods.  We do it with the joys of our hobbies!
This pack includes the following features:
      - New gunsight / optical sight
      - New texture for radar, RWR, and another avionic equipment
      - Improved cockpit and radar through cockpit and avionics ini tweaks for semi-realism (See note #2)
      - Improves glass texture (If possible)
      - Accessibility - Optional, includes the AAM firing cue on gunsight for people who can not hear the sounds of missile locking on targets.
      - Improved night lights inside cockpits
      - Tweaks to the view angle around cockpit
NOTE #1: As mentioned in note #1, due to little resources (Information / data) on early cold war era radar, at least half or most of tweaks are based on an educated guess. For exampe, AN/APG-33 radar that is used with E-1 FCS in F-89B and C, there are some data on it, but no data on elevator nor azimuth angle limitation.

      ----------------------------------------------------------
      ----------------- HISTORICAL VS FICTIONAL ----------------
      ----------------------------------------------------------
Avionics overhaul for Historical vs fictional aircraft
I am dong overhaul for both historical and 'what if' fictional aircraft.
For example, in this alpha version, there are avionics overhaul for F-8A to F-8K, along with France F_8s.  It also includes 'what if' JASDF F-8EJ Crusader.
      ----------------------------------------------------------
      ---------------------- INSTALLATION ----------------------
      ----------------------------------------------------------
There are readme inside each aircraft folder, please read the instruction to install the mods.
NOTE: There is a folder "_OPTIONAL - RWR", by default, RWR always have texture.  If you want TW style version of RWR, you can replace the RWR with the provided RWR texture from that folder.
      ----------------------------------------------------------
      ------------- GUNSIGHT / OPTICAL SIGHT SYSTEM ------------
      ----------------------------------------------------------
The new version of SF - CAP now have new gun system (texture and MILs)
From now on, all guns have texture of 512 x 512, which is 150 MILs.
In order, to use the new gunsight / optical sight, you MUST set MILs to 150 in cockpit.ini or ImageSize=0.2025 in avionics (HUD)
When I created the optical sights, I measured the MILs of gunsight by pixels
      For example
512 pixel width is 150 MILs
      For example:
      For 100 / 50 / 25 MILs, it is 341 / 171 / 85 pixels

      ----------------------------------------------------------
      ------------------- TEMPLATES SITUATION ------------------
      ----------------------------------------------------------
Due to steer size of projects, I am more focused on creating texturs for avionics overhaul.  It is taking a lot of my time and I rather to focus and finish the projects in time.
Therefore, from SF - CAP v0.4 onward, it no longer have TEMPLATE folder. And to add, with the new gunsight / optical sight, it requires new templates too.
However, if any of you want the templates for certain aircraft's avoinics, you can contact me by posting in SF - CAP thread or PM me in CombatAce.
I can clean up the mess in the templates and send it to you to use for modding SF2.

My C: Drive is quite full, and I had to uninstall SF2 because the mods just took up too much space.

Now I wonder if there is a way to install mods in any other location but the C:/User-and so on?
