Su-25 for SFP1 and WoX
Uhu replied to Uhu's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
Thanks! :-) Originally, the plane was obviously made by the Sukhoi Design Bureau (OKB-51) lead by Pavel Sukhoi and build at the Georgian Tbilisi plant... By the posts above, I conclude that important work on the model was and is done by 76.IAP-Blackbird, so that the fame shall go to him, I think. Greets, Uhu -
Hello! As I hit the maximum allowed download amount this morning, I got an idea. Would it be possible to get a kind of graphical overview to get an idea how near someone is to the 24h-limit for his account? I'm imagining it like the bar displaying someone's "warn status" under his nickname when looking at own postings, such a display could e.g. be placed near this said bar or somewhere in the user CP. I see a great advantage when loading user made campaigns. There are a lot of them (at least for the Thirdwire games) where you have to get additional aircraft or other objects, and it was not the first time that I was surprised by the download limit while trying to collect all needed items. With such a display of used download amount, a user would be enabled to better manage his downloads in order to make sure that at least he get every item needed to get a campaign working, really interesting when someone is more than eager to play something new... Hello While installing this plane, I read the readme. I discovered there that the mod is based on the Mirage Factory's plane for second gen - having read this, I checked the INI's for their coding and found that the MirageIIIEE.ini was coded in Unicode, not compatible with the first generation (The other INI's are in ANSI). So, there must be an error somewhere, either in the file name "MirageIIIEE (Spanish Air Force) for 1st Gen sims" or occurred while packing the archive, at least the archive in the version that I could download a few minutes ago, today. Su-25 for SFP1 and WoX
Uhu replied to Uhu's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
I don't see why you have to defend yourself, Dave, I didn't want to offend you. It is really clear that a modder has every right to say that first he does not want his work to be widely republished and then that he prefer to stay anonymous. The quote was intended as a simple statement why my mod is as it is. :-) Greets, Uhu -
View File Su-25 for SFP1 and WoX #INSTALLATION The setup for this mod is designed to use the Thirdwire first generation folder structure patched to 10-08 standard, the latest one as per January 2010! It doesn't contain the model of the plane itself, you need to get the fourth setup pack of NF4+ (link below) to get it. This package contains the INI reworks to make the model compatible with the first generation games along with the correct gun of the plane. 1) Unzip the "Su-25-firstgen" folder to a temporary place where it is easy to find. 2) Add the data from "GUNDATA.txt" to your GUNDATA.ini (numbering the entry with the first number availabe), open and save it with the gun editor. This step adds the Gryazev-Shipunov GSh-30-2 gun which was the gun gun carried by the series-produced aircraft. 3) Get the 4th pack of NF4+ at CombatAce: http://forum.combata...&showfile=10125 and extract at least the folder containing the Su-25. 4) Copy the plane folder (the one with the LOD's and the cockpit directory) to your “Aircraft” directory and then the INI's within the “Su-25-firstgen” into the Su-25 folder, allowing to overwrite when prompted - be careful: you must only overwrite the files, the INI's to be precise, within the Su-25 folder, not elsewhere! 5) In the case that you do not use the community weapons pack 2.52 (available at CombatAce.com, link below), you may have to add the data from "Weapons\Ordnance_Weapondata.txt" to your weapondata.ini and copy the needed folders in "Weapons" in your weapon directory. No overwriting of existing files is needed. #ADDITIONAL INFORMATION This is mainly a INI rework to convert the Su-25 for the 2nd generation games included in the NF4+ mod into a plane usable in the first generation. The weapons provided are solely those needed for the given LOADOUT.INI as I assume that a large majority of users has some kind of weapon pack installed, giving enough weapons to modify the loadouts at will. I've tested the plane on a Wing over Europe install patched to Oct.-08 level with the community weapons pack 2.52 installed. #LINKS TO MATERIAL - License information: http://forum.combata...showtopic=26131 - Community Weapons pack: http://forum.combata...p;showfile=7791 - Nato Fighters 4+, aircraft folder 2, fourth part: http://forum.combata...&showfile=10125 #DOCUMENTATION 1) The conversion of the plane was made by re-saving all INI files with ANSI coding, as this is the sole file coding understood by the first gen game engine. 2) Additionally, it makes use of the so-called “hiding components trick by bpao” (if you look at the Su-25_DATA.INI , you'll see how it works). 3) The loadout.ini is my creation. #LICENSING INFORMATION I think it is safe and the best to put my little INI work under the -> CombatAce Freeware License (see link above) <-, this rework / compilation is licensed as such, in short: freedom to distribute such licensed work as long as it does NOT become part of payware or not publicly available. I wasn't allowed to republish the model of the aircraft. USAFMTL said on request that “The person who made requested that it stay in the package only. “ but that I was clear to include the INI's, so I can't even name the contributor but nevertheless ask that he or she will accept my thanks! - EDIT: after the upload, I learned that the model is more to be seen as in a "beta stage", AmokFloo ported it in game and 76.IAP-Blackbird is still working on it. #CREDITS - The Sukhoi 25 was/is done by AmokFloo and 76.IAP-Blackbird. Uhu EDIT of File description 2010-02-07: clarified a part of the install explanation after I saw that the advice of overwriting lead at least one time to misunderstandings. ^^ I forgot the system restoration feature... Anyway, I tried it out a few minutes ago. I wanted to restore to a "Systemprüfpunkt" (as my system is set to german, I don't know what it's called in english, maybe "system test point" from 13 days ago. This one didn't work, my system wasn't changed according to the message box at startup, so I tried another "Systemprüfpunkt" from 26th January. Again, there where no system changes reported. Nevertheless, I'm utterly bewildered, now - both editors worked like a charm at their original place within my game folders when I tested them just before writing this post!! I've noticed that the date of the "last change" of the "editor".INI was set to the precise moment I've executed the EXE, and that there were maybe some changes in the content of the INI, but I don't remember exactly - args, again tried the gun editor (GE for short, now) while writing here, and again the crash; but the weps editor is still working... I got some kind of "on-and-off"-working, sometimes, the GE shows the file opening dialog up, sometimes it crashes. One time I actually tried to open my gundata.ini, it crashed with an error reporting some memory addresses where it couldn't read... I'll try again to restore to a previous system state and marking the guneditor.ini as read-only. I'll report the results. Ah, before I forget: I'm using the free Antivirus from Avira in combination with PC Tools Threatfire, the latter reportedly being able to work together with other AV systems (using Threatfire along with another AV was recommended in the german IT magazine CHIP, until now, I never got problems with this setting). So it looks like the idea of virus signatures causing the problem is ruled out, or isn't it? Uhu EDIT: Just tried another thing: I opened the GunEditor.EXE with Notepad++ (knowing that it is some kind of a HEX editor). Notepad++ reported that there was an update available, I went for it, letting it close the editor window. After that, I was able to use the GE just for one time (to make a change, I changed the reliability of the YaKB-12.7mm from 100 to 99) without problems. After that, it persisted in crashing while trying to open a file... even if I reiterate the thing with Notepad++. EDIT 2, after a restoration try: I took again the 26th january point, again with no changes to my system, but this time, there were no improvements in the behavior of the GE. Question: does anybody know a freeware able to monitor and to log the processes occurring while opening an EXE, so to say able to look what happens when the GE crashes?

That is REALLY strange... Two or three days ago, I could use my WEAPONS editor without any problems. Today, it had the same problems as my gun editor - placing it in the windows folder worked too... I am not aware of any configuration changes or windows updates lately... Wrench, what kind of security software are you using and when did you upgrade to SP3? I'm thinking that maybe faulty antivirus signatures could be the origin of our problems with the editors... Uhu

Hello! I think that there is a model for the said bomb missing. I'm using the community weps pack 2.52, the KAB-500L is defined in the INI but there are no model files that are matching. This is the callout that I've got in my weapondata.ini: I think that the bomb is working, I used it on a single mission where it killed its target, but the missing model is somewhat disturbing. I did not found something matching in the single ordnance files or in the other weapon packs, like those by lindr2. Does anyone know the correct model, or is it a viable workaround to use the model of a KAB-500R? Greets, Uhu

NATO Fighters Part 1 (Main Folder)
Uhu replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - File Announcements
Hello! Who build the Sukhoi 25 in the fourth install pack? I'm asking because I've converted the Su-25 into a plane usable for first gen games and incidentally created its correct gun (a 30mm GSh-30-2) but need to know the contributors for licensing purposes as I want to upload it here. The associated readme does not list the contributions by individuals. Greets, Uhu -
Yeah, of course. I planned to make a conversion for first gen games out of the Su-25 coming with NF4+. as this plane has this gun and not a 30mm-GsH 301 as given in the original model, it gave me the motivation for the mod. I'll only ask who build the Sukhoi for licensing purposes, then I'll upload it (if I'm not permitted to upload my full plane, I'll release it as INI edit mod). Greets, Uhu

OK, I've learned something new... There is an article in the knowledge base about the weapon editor, for which you either have the solution of setting the compatibility to Win95/98 or to put it in the root OS folder ("WINDOWS")... I've tested the latter, with the GunEditor.exe and .INI in the WINDOWS folder, it worked well: I could make and save my gun. I'm going to test it now. Maybe Microsoft has broken the compatibility mode with some kind of Windows Update patch, 'cause I could use the gun editor without problems a few months ago... Greets, Uhu

Hello! I'm experiencing some troubles while fiddling around with guns. My gun editor always crashes when I try to open my existing GUNDATA.ini or when I try to make a Gryazev-Shipunov GSh-30-2 autocannon for my 1st gen WoE (patched to Oct-08), well, I can open the input box for the gun data, but when I try to save the entered values, the program crashes - it simply closes. I'm running it in Win95 compatibility mode under XP SP3 and also tested the Win98 mode. I haven't found a solution until now, I hope somebody can help. Greets, Uhu

For the Razbam stuff, you may want to have a look at our local subforum, it shall provide you all information needed. The first gen addon planes are AFAIK compatible without limits with the second generation, but as I don't own the 2nd gen games, I'm more interested to make the other way round... Anyway, for a solution to such kind of questions, the knowledge base comes in very handy. :-) Greets, Uhu
-
No, helicopters are possible. There is a download category dedicated to them here. I think that the payware addons from Razbam also include some types, and you may find 'copters at the A-Team Skunkwork site - they only offer memberware, you have to apply for download access which may or not be granted. Hello! My Harriers (GR.3) in WoE, Nato Fighters 4 are slightly buggy: a rocket pod does not sit in a correct manner on its rail and the pilot is sticking out of the cockpit - I don't want a British Airways Flight 5390 scenario... Does anybody know which values are to be corrected? Do I need another pilot? I'm posting a screenshot and my Harrier_GR3.INI, hope somebody could help. :-) The missing skin seems to be already fixed, but not the funny thing on the rear of the plane (the airbrake?), it still sticks out. I'm thinking of it... There is no conventional CATOBAR carrier still in service, but there are still the Tarawa and Wasp classes of STOVL carriers in service, powered by geared steam turbines or, in case of the USS Makin Island, by gas turbines. Greets, Uhu

The Midway is already a museum ship in San Diego, the Ranger is likely to become one ("Hold on donation as memorial and museum ship"), the Saratoga may also be preserved (according to the Wikipedia article providing some sources, there is a foundraising campaign to achieve this fate of the ship), and last but not least, the Kennedy is too on "donation hold as museum and memorial"... I think that the America SINKEX will remain the lone SINKEX involving a supercarrier, the others (with the exception of the Forrestal and 2 Kitty Hawks) are either already preserved or contaminated with nuclear materials, making a disposal under the ship/submarine recycling program compulsory. The conventional ones won't be sunk as I believe that the prices for scrap steel and other metals will remain on a stable and high level. Greets, Uhu

What model is this?
Uhu replied to Uhu's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hello Kevin! It was neither the MiG-17 PFU, a gunpod or an ECM pod... It was a MiG-19 PF, the radar nose set up as a weapons rack (a MER) and additionally coded as NATO attachment... No wonder that I got it on my Thuds... Thanks for pointing me in the "radar nose" direction! I hope that with correction of the AttachmentType, I've fixed the issue, I'll test it straight away. :-) Greets, Uhu -
What model is this?
Uhu replied to Uhu's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hello, it's me again with some graphic problems... ^^ I've just flown some intercept missions in y F-104 in my 1962 Red Thunder campaign (WOE with NF 1-4 and much other mods) and noticed that a friendly F-105D flight (stock plane, I think) looks really weird. I didn't modify anything to this model, as far as I remember. Screens: What happens here? It seems to be a kind of a crossbreed of a F-105 with a S-3, look at the turbofan... Corrupted LOD, corrupted loadout.INI, something else? The folder contains only the skin folders and the F-105D.INI . Another F-105 that I believe on a SEAD mission with another loadout (CBU-24 and AGM-112) looked normal, screen: By the way, what's the "long cylinder" on the "corrupted" Thud? A nuke? I'm asking 'cause I've got a bunch of B-57 nuking an airfield some missions ago in the same campaign, blasting themselves out of the sky and nearly getting me - 14 kilometers away - too, albeit there are no nukes defined in their loadout.INI ... Any solution or idea to the model problem is greatly appreciated. Greets, Uhu -
What model is this?
Uhu replied to Uhu's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Thanks, the hint for Mirage F1-C was the correct one, I believe. I didn't check but just forgot this plane, as the folder hasn't "Mirage" in its name but nevertheless missed LOD's. Just downloaded again the MF version, I think that's a solved problem. :-) Greets, Uhu -
Hello! Is there anybody out there who recognises this plane? I know that it will be a LOD problem, but I do not recognize the incriminated model... I was flying a Tornado in 2003 on ODS map and as it carries french AAM (Super 530 and Magic?), I thought that it was a flight of some kind of Mirage. But the LOD callings in their respective aircraft.INI's (I checked my Mirages, Super Etendard and Rafale) look all right, I did not see a spelling mistake. Can anybody tell my, based on the weapon loadout, what aircraft should be visible here? Greets, Uhu

Having read this, I planned for a while to take some photographs of this area, especially since I got my DSLR in september. I've collected some pictures now, maybe you'll appreciate them. :) If it is of any interest: they should have meaningful EXIF's. As for licensing, I put them under the CC-BY-NC-SA 3.0 (Creative Commons Attribution required Non-Commercial Share Alike 3.0). As attribution, my name, found in the EXIF's is to be used. This is the part of the Stadthafen nearest to the city, with the museum harbour and a marina at the extreme left of the image - the gantry crane is used to take sailboats in and out of water at boating season's ends. It's just in the middle betweenn the points A and B from the Google Maps-search from my previous post. The green arrow shows my photo spot, the crane is on the protruding square lefthands. This is the Stadthafen too. The first view was directly downstream, this one is directly upstream. You may discern the gantry crane (a great landmark!) in the background behind the MS Georg Büchner, a former passenger-cargo ship of the Deutsche Seereederei Rostock (the GDR state shipping company). The arrow marks approximately my spot - this Google Maps image is quite outdated, there are some new constructions now. This is a view of a former shipyard building with a crane, now converted into a shopping mall. A ramp for ship launches may still be discernible. The so called Kabutzenhof, view downstrem. The aforementioned crane is visible is the left background. There are some condominium buildings under construction in the middle and the right. Photo spot. This is a view directly into the museum harbour. As a matter of fact, the house with my apartment is visible on the extreme right. The gantry crane is again a great landmark; the ship in the middle out the icebreaker Stephan Jantzen, out of service since 2006. The buildings behind the Stephan Jantzen mark the point A of the Maps search. Again, I'll show my (approx.) photo spot. Another view of the Unterwarnow, upstream, with the "A-spot-buildings" in the background. There is a man-powered crane visible in the middle right background, it is a reconstruction of a crane used for centenaries in the odl harbour of Rostock. Photo spot. This is simply a image of the Unterwarnow, looking downstream. The curve towards the baltic sea can be surmised. This is a wide angle close up of the MS Georg Büchner. It now houses a youth hostel. This is a panoramical view (from the roof of my house at dusk) of a portion of the Unterwarnow. The gantry crane is on the left and the 2 cranes of the first picture in the middle between it and the centered "Stephan Jantzen". The buildings of "spot A" are out of the right side of the image. Greets, Uhu
